Details

A double-free vulnerability was found in the vmwgfx driver in the Linux kernel. The flaw exists within the handling of vmw_buffer_object objects. The issue results from the lack of validating the existence of an object prior to performing further free operations on the object. This flaw allows a local privileged user to escalate privileges and execute code in the context of the kernel.

Summary
Double-free in id-map
Details

The clone_from implementation for IdMap drops the values present in the map and then begins cloning values from the other map. If a .clone() call pancics, then the afformentioned dropped elements can be freed again. get_or_insert

get_or_insert reserves space for a value, before calling the user provided insertion function f. If the function f panics then uninitialized or previously freed memory can be dropped. remove_set

When removing a set of elements, ptr::drop_in_place is called on each of the element to be removed. If the Drop impl of one of these elements panics then the previously dropped elements can be dropped again.

GHSA-8H7Q-934R-3XXV

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-05-06 12:30 – Updated: 2026-05-11 21:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

soc: ti: pruss: Fix double free in pruss_clk_mux_setup()

In the pruss_clk_mux_setup(), the devm_add_action_or_reset() indirectly calls pruss_of_free_clk_provider(), which calls of_node_put(clk_mux_np) on the error path. However, after the devm_add_action_or_reset() returns, the of_node_put(clk_mux_np) is called again, causing a double free.

Fix by returning directly, to avoid the duplicate of_node_put().

GHSA-8HW4-63FM-6Q6X

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-03-10 21:31 – Updated: 2025-03-10 21:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

drm/amd/pm: fix double free in si_parse_power_table()

In function si_parse_power_table(), array adev->pm.dpm.ps and its member is allocated. If the allocation of each member fails, the array itself is freed and returned with an error code. However, the array is later freed again in si_dpm_fini() function which is called when the function returns an error.

This leads to potential double free of the array adev->pm.dpm.ps, as well as leak of its array members, since the members are not freed in the allocation function and the array is not nulled when freed. In addition adev->pm.dpm.num_ps, which keeps track of the allocated array member, is not updated until the member allocation is successfully finished, this could also lead to either use after free, or uninitialized variable access in si_dpm_fini().

Fix this by postponing the free of the array until si_dpm_fini() and increment adev->pm.dpm.num_ps everytime the array member is allocated.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

Fix page corruption caused by racy check in __free_pages

When we upgraded our kernel, we started seeing some page corruption like the following consistently:

BUG: Bad page state in process ganesha.nfsd pfn:1304ca page:0000000022261c55 refcount:0 mapcount:-128 mapping:0000000000000000 index:0x0 pfn:0x1304ca flags: 0x17ffffc0000000() raw: 0017ffffc0000000 ffff8a513ffd4c98 ffffeee24b35ec08 0000000000000000 raw: 0000000000000000 0000000000000001 00000000ffffff7f 0000000000000000 page dumped because: nonzero mapcount CPU: 0 PID: 15567 Comm: ganesha.nfsd Kdump: loaded Tainted: P B O 5.10.158-1.nutanix.20221209.el7.x86_64 #1 Hardware name: VMware, Inc. VMware Virtual Platform/440BX Desktop Reference Platform, BIOS 6.00 04/05/2016 Call Trace: dump_stack+0x74/0x96 bad_page.cold+0x63/0x94 check_new_page_bad+0x6d/0x80 rmqueue+0x46e/0x970 get_page_from_freelist+0xcb/0x3f0 ? _cond_resched+0x19/0x40 __alloc_pages_nodemask+0x164/0x300 alloc_pages_current+0x87/0xf0 skb_page_frag_refill+0x84/0x110 ...

Sometimes, it would also show up as corruption in the free list pointer and cause crashes.

After bisecting the issue, we found the issue started from commit e320d3012d25 ("mm/page_alloc.c: fix freeing non-compound pages"):

if (put_page_testzero(page))
    free_the_page(page, order);
else if (!PageHead(page))
    while (order-- > 0)
        free_the_page(page + (1 << order), order);

So the problem is the check PageHead is racy because at this point we already dropped our reference to the page. So even if we came in with compound page, the page can already be freed and PageHead can return false and we will end up freeing all the tail pages causing double free.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Choose a language that provides automatic memory management.

Mitigation
Implementation

Ensure that each allocation is freed only once. After freeing a chunk, set the pointer to NULL to ensure the pointer cannot be freed again. In complicated error conditions, be sure that clean-up routines respect the state of allocation properly. If the language is object oriented, ensure that object destructors delete each chunk of memory only once.

Mitigation
Implementation

Use a static analysis tool to find double free instances.
