Details

ec_verify in kdc/kdc_preauth_ec.c in the Key Distribution Center (KDC) in MIT Kerberos 5 (aka krb5) before 1.18.4 and 1.19.x before 1.19.2 allows remote attackers to cause a NULL pointer dereference and daemon crash. This occurs because a return value is not properly managed in a certain situation.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-02-28 09:30 – Updated: 2024-12-06 21:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

scsi: lpfc: Fix null pointer dereference in lpfc_prep_els_iocb()

It is possible to call lpfc_issue_els_plogi() passing a did for which no matching ndlp is found. A call is then made to lpfc_prep_els_iocb() with a null pointer to a lpfc_nodelist structure resulting in a null pointer dereference.

Fix by returning an error status if no valid ndlp is found. Fix up comments regarding ndlp reference counting.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-10-07 18:31 – Updated: 2026-02-03 18:30

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

bcache: Fix __bch_btree_node_alloc to make the failure behavior consistent

In some specific situations, the return value of __bch_btree_node_alloc may be NULL. This may lead to a potential NULL pointer dereference in caller function like a calling chain : btree_split->bch_btree_node_alloc->__bch_btree_node_alloc.

Fix it by initializing the return value in __bch_btree_node_alloc.

A NULL pointer dereference flaw was found in the Linux kernel ipv4 stack. The socket buffer (skb) was assumed to be associated with a device before calling __ip_options_compile, which is not always the case if the skb is re-routed by ipvs. This issue may allow a local user with CAP_NET_ADMIN privileges to crash the system.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-05-21 18:31 – Updated: 2024-12-30 21:30

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

cxl/mem: Fix shutdown order

Ira reports that removing cxl_mock_mem causes a crash with the following trace:

BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000044 [..] RIP: 0010:cxl_region_decode_reset+0x7f/0x180 [cxl_core] [..] Call Trace: cxl_region_detach+0xe8/0x210 [cxl_core] cxl_decoder_kill_region+0x27/0x40 [cxl_core] cxld_unregister+0x29/0x40 [cxl_core] devres_release_all+0xb8/0x110 device_unbind_cleanup+0xe/0x70 device_release_driver_internal+0x1d2/0x210 bus_remove_device+0xd7/0x150 device_del+0x155/0x3e0 device_unregister+0x13/0x60 devm_release_action+0x4d/0x90 ? __pfx_unregister_port+0x10/0x10 [cxl_core] delete_endpoint+0x121/0x130 [cxl_core] devres_release_all+0xb8/0x110 device_unbind_cleanup+0xe/0x70 device_release_driver_internal+0x1d2/0x210 bus_remove_device+0xd7/0x150 device_del+0x155/0x3e0 ? lock_release+0x142/0x290 cdev_device_del+0x15/0x50 cxl_memdev_unregister+0x54/0x70 [cxl_core]

This crash is due to the clearing out the cxl_memdev's driver context (@cxlds) before the subsystem is done with it. This is ultimately due to the region(s), that this memdev is a member, being torn down and expecting to be able to de-reference @cxlds, like here:

static int cxl_region_decode_reset(struct cxl_region *cxlr, int count) ... if (cxlds->rcd) goto endpoint_reset; ...

Fix it by keeping the driver context valid until memdev-device unregistration, and subsequently the entire stack of related dependencies, unwinds.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-11-14 12:31 – Updated: 2025-01-24 18:31
VLAI
Details

A null pointer dereference vulnerability in Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS software enables an unauthenticated attacker to stop a core system service on the firewall by sending a crafted packet through the data plane that causes a denial of service (DoS) condition. Repeated attempts to trigger this condition result in the firewall entering maintenance mode.

GHSA-7HHM-HGMX-PP76

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-01-31 12:33 – Updated: 2026-05-12 15:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

vsock/virtio: discard packets if the transport changes

If the socket has been de-assigned or assigned to another transport, we must discard any packets received because they are not expected and would cause issues when we access vsk->transport.

A possible scenario is described by Hyunwoo Kim in the attached link, where after a first connect() interrupted by a signal, and a second connect() failed, we can find vsk->transport at NULL, leading to a NULL pointer dereference.

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
