Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

wifi: carl9170: do not ping device which has failed to load firmware

Syzkaller reports [1, 2] crashes caused by an attempts to ping the device which has failed to load firmware. Since such a device doesn't pass 'ieee80211_register_hw()', an internal workqueue managed by 'ieee80211_queue_work()' is not yet created and an attempt to queue work on it causes null-ptr-deref.

Summary

Ella Core panics when processing a malformed NGAP LocationReport message with ue-presence-in-area-of-interest event type and omitting the optional UEPresenceInAreaOfInterestList IE.

Impact

An attacker able to send crafted NGAP messages to Ella Core can crash the process, causing service disruption for all connected subscribers. No authentication is required.

Fix

Added IE presence verification to NGAP message handling.

When mlir::tfg::GraphDefImporter::ConvertNodeDef tries to convert NodeDefs without an op name, it crashes.

We have patched the issue in GitHub commit a0f0b9a21c9270930457095092f558fbad4c03e5.

The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.10.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.9.1, TensorFlow 2.8.1, and TensorFlow 2.7.2, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

Undefined behavior in `MaxPool3DGradGrad`
Details

Impact

The implementation of tf.raw_ops.MaxPool3DGradGrad exhibits undefined behavior by dereferencing null pointers backing attacker-supplied empty tensors:

tf.raw_ops.MaxPool3DGradGrad(

    strides=strides, padding=padding)

The implementation fails to validate that the 3 tensor inputs are not empty. If any of them is empty, then accessing the elements in the tensor results in dereferencing a null pointer.

Patches

We have patched the issue in GitHub commit a3d9f9be9ac2296615644061b40cefcee341dcc4.

The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.5.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.4.2, TensorFlow 2.3.3, TensorFlow 2.2.3 and TensorFlow 2.1.4, as these are also affected and still in supported range.
