Details

A vulnerability in the Internet Key Exchange version 2 (IKEv2) protocol for VPN termination of Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device.

This vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted IKEv2 traffic to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the device to reload, resulting in a DoS condition.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

KVM: SVM: Make sure GHCB is mapped before updating

Access to the GHCB is mainly in the VMGEXIT path and it is known that the GHCB will be mapped. But there are two paths where it is possible the GHCB might not be mapped.

The sev_vcpu_deliver_sipi_vector() routine will update the GHCB to inform the caller of the AP Reset Hold NAE event that a SIPI has been delivered. However, if a SIPI is performed without a corresponding AP Reset Hold, then the GHCB might not be mapped (depending on the previous VMEXIT), which will result in a NULL pointer dereference.

The svm_complete_emulated_msr() routine will update the GHCB to inform the caller of a RDMSR/WRMSR operation about any errors. While it is likely that the GHCB will be mapped in this situation, add a safe guard in this path to be certain a NULL pointer dereference is not encountered.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

tcp: check skb is non-NULL in tcp_rto_delta_us()

We have some machines running stock Ubuntu 20.04.6 which is their 5.4.0-174-generic kernel that are running ceph and recently hit a null ptr dereference in tcp_rearm_rto(). Initially hitting it from the TLP path, but then later we also saw it getting hit from the RACK case as well. Here are examples of the oops messages we saw in each of those cases:

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

RDMA/cxgb4: Fix potential null-ptr-deref in pass_establish()

If get_ep_from_tid() fails to lookup non-NULL value for ep, ep is dereferenced later regardless of whether it is empty. This patch adds a simple sanity check to fix the issue.

Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-12-27 15:31 – Updated: 2025-01-08 21:32

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

drm/amd/display: Fix null check for pipe_ctx->plane_state in dcn20_program_pipe

This commit addresses a null pointer dereference issue in dcn20_program_pipe(). Previously, commit 8e4ed3cf1642 ("drm/amd/display: Add null check for pipe_ctx->plane_state in dcn20_program_pipe") partially fixed the null pointer dereference issue. However, in dcn20_update_dchubp_dpp(), the variable pipe_ctx is passed in, and plane_state is accessed again through pipe_ctx. Multiple if statements directly call attributes of plane_state, leading to potential null pointer dereference issues. This patch adds necessary null checks to ensure stability.

Summary
Null pointer dereference in Grappler's `IsConstant`
Details

Impact

Under certain scenarios, Grappler component of TensorFlow can trigger a null pointer dereference. There are 2 places where this can occur, for the same malicious alteration of a SavedModel file (fixing the first one would trigger the same dereference in the second place):

First, during constant folding, the GraphDef might not have the required nodes for the binary operation:

  NodeDef* mul_left_child = node_map_->GetNode(node->input(0));
  NodeDef* mul_right_child = node_map_->GetNode(node->input(1));
  // One child must be constant, and the second must be Conv op.
  const bool left_child_is_constant = IsReallyConstant(*mul_left_child);
  const bool right_child_is_constant = IsReallyConstant(*mul_right_child);

If a node is missing, the correposning mul_*child would be null, and the dereference in the subsequent line would be incorrect.

We have a similar issue during IsIdentityConsumingSwitch:

  NodeDef* input_node = graph.GetNode(tensor_id.node());
  return IsSwitch(*input_node);

Patches

We have patched the issue in GitHub commits 0a365c029e437be0349c31f8d4c9926b69fa3fa1 and 045deec1cbdebb27d817008ad5df94d96a08b1bf.

The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.8.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.7.1, TensorFlow 2.6.3, and TensorFlow 2.5.3, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

  "details": "### Impact\nUnder certain scenarios, Grappler component of TensorFlow can trigger a null pointer dereference. There are 2 places where this can occur, for the same malicious alteration of a `SavedModel` file (fixing the first one would trigger the same dereference in the second place):\n\nFirst, during [constant folding](https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/blob/a1320ec1eac186da1d03f033109191f715b2b130/tensorflow/core/grappler/optimizers/constant_folding.cc#L3466-L3497), the `GraphDef` might not have the required nodes for the binary operation:\n\n```cc\n NodeDef* mul_left_child = node_map_-\u003eGetNode(node-\u003einput(0));\n NodeDef* mul_right_child = node_map_-\u003eGetNode(node-\u003einput(1));\n // One child must be constant, and the second must be Conv op.\n const bool left_child_is_constant = IsReallyConstant(*mul_left_child);\n const bool right_child_is_constant = IsReallyConstant(*mul_right_child);\n```\n\nIf a node is missing, the correposning `mul_*child` would be null, and the dereference in the subsequent line would be incorrect.\n\nWe have a similar issue during [`IsIdentityConsumingSwitch`](https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/blob/a1320ec1eac186da1d03f033109191f715b2b130/tensorflow/core/grappler/mutable_graph_view.cc#L59-L74):\n\n```cc\n NodeDef* input_node = graph.GetNode(tensor_id.node());\n return IsSwitch(*input_node);\n```\n\n### Patches\nWe have patched the issue in GitHub commits [0a365c029e437be0349c31f8d4c9926b69fa3fa1](https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/commit/0a365c029e437be0349c31f8d4c9926b69fa3fa1) and [045deec1cbdebb27d817008ad5df94d96a08b1bf](https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/commit/045deec1cbdebb27d817008ad5df94d96a08b1bf).\n\nThe fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.8.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.7.1, TensorFlow 2.6.3, and TensorFlow 2.5.3, as these are also affected and still in supported range.\n\n### For more information\nPlease consult [our security guide](https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/blob/master/SECURITY.md) for more information regarding the security model and how to contact us with issues and questions.",

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-09-22 21:30 – Updated: 2026-05-12 15:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

cifs: prevent NULL pointer dereference in UTF16 conversion

There can be a NULL pointer dereference bug here. NULL is passed to __cifs_sfu_make_node without checks, which passes it unchecked to cifs_strndup_to_utf16, which in turn passes it to cifs_local_to_utf16_bytes where '*from' is dereferenced, causing a crash.

This patch adds a check for NULL 'src' in cifs_strndup_to_utf16 and returns NULL early to prevent dereferencing NULL pointer.

Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-04-08 15:31 – Updated: 2026-07-14 15:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: atm: fix crash due to unvalidated vcc pointer in sigd_send()

Reproducer available at 1.

The ATM send path (sendmsg -> vcc_sendmsg -> sigd_send) reads the vcc pointer from msg->vcc and uses it directly without any validation. This pointer comes from userspace via sendmsg() and can be arbitrarily forged:

int fd = socket(AF_ATMSVC, SOCK_DGRAM, 0);
ioctl(fd, ATMSIGD_CTRL);  // become ATM signaling daemon
struct msghdr msg = { .msg_iov = &iov, ... };
*(unsigned long *)(buf + 4) = 0xdeadbeef;  // fake vcc pointer
sendmsg(fd, &msg, 0);  // kernel dereferences 0xdeadbeef

In normal operation, the kernel sends the vcc pointer to the signaling daemon via sigd_enq() when processing operations like connect(), bind(), or listen(). The daemon is expected to return the same pointer when responding. However, a malicious daemon can send arbitrary pointer values.

Fix this by introducing find_get_vcc() which validates the pointer by searching through vcc_hash (similar to how sigd_close() iterates over all VCCs), and acquires a reference via sock_hold() if found.

Since struct atm_vcc embeds struct sock as its first member, they share the same lifetime. Therefore using sock_hold/sock_put is sufficient to keep the vcc alive while it is being used.

Note that there may be a race with sigd_close() which could mark the vcc with various flags (e.g., ATM_VF_RELEASED) after find_get_vcc() returns. However, sock_hold() guarantees the memory remains valid, so this race only affects the logical state, not memory safety.

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
