Details

An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel through 4.17.10. There is a NULL pointer dereference and panic in hfsplus_lookup() in fs/hfsplus/dir.c when opening a file (that is purportedly a hard link) in an hfs+ filesystem that has malformed catalog data, and is mounted read-only without a metadata directory.

GHSA-QX5F-76WJ-2XM5

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-06-20 12:31 – Updated: 2025-01-07 00:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

bpf: Guard against accessing NULL pt_regs in bpf_get_task_stack()

task_pt_regs() can return NULL on powerpc for kernel threads. This is then used in __bpf_get_stack() to check for user mode, resulting in a kernel oops. Guard against this by checking return value of task_pt_regs() before trying to obtain the call chain.

GHSA-QX99-H65P-8XPJ

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-03-09 12:31 – Updated: 2026-03-09 15:30
VLAI
Details

In some cases, the tcp-setmss handler may free the packet data and throw an error without halting the rule processing engine. A subsequent rule can then allow the traffic after the packet data is gone, resulting in a NULL pointer dereference.

Maliciously crafted packets sent from a remote host may result in a Denial of Service (DoS) if the tcp-setmss directive is used and a subsequent rule would allow the traffic to pass.

Details

A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability has been reported to affect Qsync Central. If a remote attacker gains a user account, they can then exploit the vulnerability to launch a denial-of-service (DoS) attack.

We have already fixed the vulnerability in the following version: Qsync Central 5.0.0.1 ( 2025/07/09 ) and later

GHSA-QXMC-XMP5-2RHF

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-12-18 21:31 – Updated: 2025-12-19 18:31
VLAI
Details

A denial-of-service vulnerability exists in the omec-project UPF (pfcpiface component) in version upf-epc-pfcpiface:2.1.3-dev. When the UPF receives a PFCP Session Report Response that is missing the mandatory Cause Information Element, the session report handler dereferences a nil pointer instead of rejecting the malformed message. This triggers a panic and terminates the UPF process. An attacker who can send PFCP Session Report Response messages to the UPF's N4/PFCP endpoint can exploit this flaw to repeatedly crash the UPF and disrupt user-plane services.

GHSA-QXPX-J395-PW36

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-09-16 22:14 – Updated: 2022-09-19 19:26
VLAI
Summary
TensorFlow vulnerable to segfault in `LowerBound` and `UpperBound`
Details

Impact

If LowerBound or UpperBound is given an emptysorted_inputs input, it results in a nullptr dereference, leading to a segfault that can be used to trigger a denial of service attack.

import tensorflow as tf

out_type = tf.int32
sorted_inputs = tf.constant([], shape=[10,0], dtype=tf.float32)
values = tf.constant([], shape=[10,10,0,10,0], dtype=tf.float32)
tf.raw_ops.LowerBound(sorted_inputs=sorted_inputs, values=values, out_type=out_type)
import tensorflow as tf

out_type = tf.int64
sorted_inputs = tf.constant([], shape=[2,2,0,0,0,0,0,2], dtype=tf.float32)
values = tf.constant(0.372660398, shape=[2,4], dtype=tf.float32)
tf.raw_ops.UpperBound(sorted_inputs=sorted_inputs, values=values, out_type=out_type)

Patches

We have patched the issue in GitHub commit bce3717eaef4f769019fd18e990464ca4a2efeea.

The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.10.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.9.1, TensorFlow 2.8.1, and TensorFlow 2.7.2, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

For more information

Please consult our security guide for more information regarding the security model and how to contact us with issues and questions.

We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.9.1, TensorFlow 2.8.1, and TensorFlow 2.7.2, as these are also affected and still in supported range.\n\n\n### For more information\nPlease consult [our security guide](https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/blob/master/SECURITY.md) for more information regarding the security model and how to contact us with issues and questions.\n\n\n### Attribution\nThis vulnerability has been reported by Neophytos Christou, Secure Systems Labs, Brown University.",

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
