Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

gpio: cdev: Avoid NULL dereference in linehandle_create()

In linehandle_create(), there is a statement like this: retain_and_null_ptr(lh);

Soon after, there is a debug printout that dereferences "lh", which will crash things.

Avoid the crash by using handlereq.lines, which is the same value.

Summary
VTK NULL pointer dereference vulnerability
Details

There is a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in VTK, and it lies in IO/Infovis/vtkXMLTreeReader.cxx. The vendor didn't check the return value of libxml2 API 'xmlDocGetRootElement', and try to dereference it. It is unsafe as the return value can be NULL and that NULL pointer dereference may crash the application.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

drm/i915: Fix system suspend without fbdev being initialized

If fbdev is not initialized for some reason - in practice on platforms without display - suspending fbdev should be skipped during system suspend, fix this up. While at it add an assert that suspending fbdev only happens with the display present.

This fixes the following:

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-01-15 21:31 – Updated: 2026-03-16 21:34
VLAI
Details

A NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in the chassis daemon (chassisd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX, SRX and EX Series allows a local attacker with low privileges to cause a Denial-of-Service (DoS).

When a user executes the 'show chassis' command with specifically crafted options, chassisd will crash and restart. Due to this all components but the Routing Engine (RE) in the chassis are reinitialized, which leads to a complete service outage, which the system automatically recovers from.

This issue affects:

Junos OS on MX, SRX and EX Series:

  • all versions before 22.4R3-S8,
  • 23.2 versions before 23.2R2-S5,
  • 23.4 versions before 23.4R2-S6,
  • 24.2 versions before 24.2R2-S2,
  • 24.4 versions before 24.4R2.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

mac802154: check local interfaces before deleting sdata list

syzkaller reported a corrupted list in ieee802154_if_remove. [1]

Remove an IEEE 802.15.4 network interface after unregister an IEEE 802.15.4 hardware device from the system.

CPU0 CPU1 ==== ==== genl_family_rcv_msg_doit ieee802154_unregister_hw ieee802154_del_iface ieee802154_remove_interfaces rdev_del_virtual_intf_deprecated list_del(&sdata->list) ieee802154_if_remove list_del_rcu

The net device has been unregistered, since the rcu grace period, unregistration must be run before ieee802154_if_remove.

To avoid this issue, add a check for local->interfaces before deleting sdata list.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-13 01:24 – Updated: 2022-05-13 01:24
VLAI
Details

The befs_follow_link function in fs/befs/linuxvfs.c in the Linux kernel before 3.1-rc3 does not validate the length attribute of long symlinks, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (incorrect pointer dereference and OOPS) by accessing a long symlink on a malformed Be filesystem.

GHSA-XFR8-3RWW-P6WV

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-07-04 15:31 – Updated: 2026-05-12 15:30

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

fbdev: Fix do_register_framebuffer to prevent null-ptr-deref in fb_videomode_to_var

If fb_add_videomode() in do_register_framebuffer() fails to allocate memory for fb_videomode, it will later lead to a null-ptr dereference in fb_videomode_to_var(), as the fb_info is registered while not having the mode in modelist that is expected to be there, i.e. the one that is described in fb_info->var.

================================================================ general protection fault, probably for non-canonical address 0xdffffc0000000001: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP KASAN NOPTI KASAN: null-ptr-deref in range [0x0000000000000008-0x000000000000000f] CPU: 1 PID: 30371 Comm: syz-executor.1 Not tainted 5.10.226-syzkaller #0 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.12.0-1 04/01/2014 RIP: 0010:fb_videomode_to_var+0x24/0x610 drivers/video/fbdev/core/modedb.c:901 Call Trace: display_to_var+0x3a/0x7c0 drivers/video/fbdev/core/fbcon.c:929 fbcon_resize+0x3e2/0x8f0 drivers/video/fbdev/core/fbcon.c:2071 resize_screen drivers/tty/vt/vt.c:1176 [inline] vc_do_resize+0x53a/0x1170 drivers/tty/vt/vt.c:1263 fbcon_modechanged+0x3ac/0x6e0 drivers/video/fbdev/core/fbcon.c:2720 fbcon_update_vcs+0x43/0x60 drivers/video/fbdev/core/fbcon.c:2776 do_fb_ioctl+0x6d2/0x740 drivers/video/fbdev/core/fbmem.c:1128 fb_ioctl+0xe7/0x150 drivers/video/fbdev/core/fbmem.c:1203 vfs_ioctl fs/ioctl.c:48 [inline] __do_sys_ioctl fs/ioctl.c:753 [inline] __se_sys_ioctl fs/ioctl.c:739 [inline] __x64_sys_ioctl+0x19a/0x210 fs/ioctl.c:739 do_syscall_64+0x33/0x40 arch/x86/entry/common.c:46 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x67/0xd1 ================================================================

Even though fbcon_init() checks beforehand if fb_match_mode() in var_to_display() fails, it can not prevent the panic because fbcon_init() does not return error code. Considering this and the comment in the code about fb_match_mode() returning NULL - "This should not happen" - it is better to prevent registering the fb_info if its mode was not set successfully. Also move fb_add_videomode() closer to the beginning of do_register_framebuffer() to avoid having to do the cleanup on fail.

Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Syzkaller.

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.
