CWE-617
AllowedReachable Assertion
Abstraction: Base · Status: Draft
The product contains an assert() or similar statement that can be triggered by an attacker, which leads to an application exit or other behavior that is more severe than necessary.
1110 vulnerabilities reference this CWE, most recent first.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-09-08 18:31 – Updated: 2026-09-08 18:31A security issue in the MongoDB Server's storage engine integration layer allows an authenticated user with collection creation privileges to cause a persistent denial of service. Insufficient validation of user-supplied storage configuration options permits values that, once persisted to durable metadata, trigger a fatal assertion failure when the metadata is subsequently read by diagnostic operations. The corrupted metadata persists across server restarts and is replicated to other cluster members, requiring manual operator intervention to restore service.

GHSA-WXJJ-CGCX-R3VQ
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-09-16 22:11 – Updated: 2022-09-19 19:36Impact
The implementation of AvgPool3DGradOp does not fully validate the input orig_input_shape. This results in an overflow that results in a CHECK failure which can be used to trigger a denial of service attack:
import tensorflow as tf
ksize = [1, 1, 1, 1, 1]
strides = [1, 1, 1, 1, 1]
padding = "SAME"
data_format = "NDHWC"
orig_input_shape = tf.constant(1879048192, shape=[5], dtype=tf.int32)
grad = tf.constant(1, shape=[1,3,2,4,2], dtype=tf.float32)
tf.raw_ops.AvgPool3DGrad(orig_input_shape=orig_input_shape, grad=grad, ksize=ksize, strides=strides, padding=padding, data_format=data_format)
Patches
We have patched the issue in GitHub commit 9178ac9d6389bdc54638ab913ea0e419234d14eb.
The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.10.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.9.1, TensorFlow 2.8.1, and TensorFlow 2.7.2, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

Please consult our security guide for more information regarding the security model and how to contact us with issues and questions.

GHSA-X2GG-PJP4-C6G3
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-07-22 15:31 – Updated: 2026-07-22 15:31In NLnet Labs Unbound 1.22.0 up to and including 1.25.1, in DNS-over-QUIC environments, with high concurrency and under pressure, an assertion in libngtcp2 about monotonic timestamps could trigger and result in server termination and thus denial of service. When interfacing with libngtcp2, for DNS-over-QUIC support in Unbound, it is expected to use monotonic time. Unbound was using realtime instead, and in DoQ environments with high concurrency and under pressure, an assert in libngtcp2 for the quic timestamp would trigger and terminate the server.This vulnerability needs Unbound to be compiled with DoQ support ('--with-libngtcp2') and the 'quic-port' to be configured for the listening interfaces.

Mitigation
Make sensitive open/close operation non reachable by directly user-controlled data (e.g. open/close resources)
Mitigation
Strategy: Input Validation
Perform input validation on user data.
