Summary
APM Java Agent Local Privilege Escalation
Details

A local privilege escalation issue was found with the APM Java agent, where a user on the system could attach a malicious file to an application running with the APM Java agent. Using this vector, a malicious or compromised user account could use the agent to run commands at a higher level of permissions than they possess. This vulnerability affects users that have set up the agent via the attacher cli 3, the attach API 2, as well as users that have enabled the profiling_inferred_spans_enabled option

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-03-22 06:30 – Updated: 2026-03-22 06:30
VLAI
Details

The 'The Ultimate WordPress Toolkit – WP Extended' plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Privilege Escalation in all versions up to, and including, 3.2.4. This is due to the isDashboardOrProfileRequest() method in the Menu Editor module using an insecure strpos() check against $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] to determine if a request targets the dashboard or profile page. The grantVirtualCaps() method, which is hooked into the user_has_cap filter, grants elevated capabilities including manage_options when this check returns true. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to gain administrative capabilities by appending a crafted query parameter to any admin URL, allowing them to update arbitrary WordPress options and ultimately create new Administrator accounts.

Details

The Newsletters plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to privilege escalation in all versions up to, and including, 4.9.9.2. This is due to the plugin not restricting what user meta can be updated as screen options. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to escalate their privileges to that of an administrator. Please note that this only affects users with access to edit/update screen options, which means an administrator would need to grant lower privilege users with access to the Sent & Draft Emails page of the plugin in order for this to be exploited.

Mitigation MIT-1
Architecture and Design Operation

Very carefully manage the setting, management, and handling of privileges. Explicitly manage trust zones in the software.

Mitigation MIT-48
Architecture and Design

Strategy: Separation of Privilege

Follow the principle of least privilege when assigning access rights to entities in a software system.

Mitigation MIT-49
Architecture and Design

Strategy: Separation of Privilege

Consider following the principle of separation of privilege. Require multiple conditions to be met before permitting access to a system resource.

CAPEC-122: Privilege Abuse

An adversary is able to exploit features of the target that should be reserved for privileged users or administrators but are exposed to use by lower or non-privileged accounts. Access to sensitive information and functionality must be controlled to ensure that only authorized users are able to access these resources.

CAPEC-233: Privilege Escalation

An adversary exploits a weakness enabling them to elevate their privilege and perform an action that they are not supposed to be authorized to perform.

CAPEC-58: Restful Privilege Elevation

An adversary identifies a Rest HTTP (Get, Put, Delete) style permission method allowing them to perform various malicious actions upon server data due to lack of access control mechanisms implemented within the application service accepting HTTP messages.
