Summary
An Insecure Temporary File vulnerability in openSUSE sdbootutil allows local users to pre-create a directory to achieve various effects like: * gain access to possible private information found in /var/lib/pcrlock.d * manipulate the data backed up in /tmp/pcrlock.d.bak, therefore violating the integrity of the data should it be restored. *  overwrite protected system files with data from /var/lib/pcrlock.d by placing symlinks to existing files in the directory tree in /tmp/pcrlock.d.bak. This issue affects sdbootutil: from ? before 5880246d3a02642dc68f5c8cb474bf63cdb56bca.

Title
Requests has Insecure Temp File Reuse in its extract_zipped_paths() utility function
Summary
Requests is a HTTP library. Prior to version 2.33.0, the `requests.utils.extract_zipped_paths()` utility function uses a predictable filename when extracting files from zip archives into the system temporary directory. If the target file already exists, it is reused without validation. A local attacker with write access to the temp directory could pre-create a malicious file that would be loaded in place of the legitimate one. Standard usage of the Requests library is not affected by this vulnerability. Only applications that call `extract_zipped_paths()` directly are impacted. Starting in version 2.33.0, the library extracts files to a non-deterministic location. If developers are unable to upgrade, they can set `TMPDIR` in their environment to a directory with restricted write access.

Improper Handling and Insufficient Isolation of Specific Temporary Files in Splunk Enterprise
Summary
In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.2.1, 10.0.5, 9.4.10, and 9.3.11, and Splunk Cloud Platform versions below 10.4.2603.0, 10.3.2512.5, 10.2.2510.9, 10.1.2507.19, 10.0.2503.13, and 9.3.2411.127, a low-privileged user that does not hold the `admin` or `power` Splunk roles could potentially perform a Remote Code Execution (RCE) by uploading a malicious file to the `$SPLUNK_HOME/var/run/splunk/apptemp` directory due to improper handling and insufficient isolation of temporary files within the `apptemp` directory.

Title
Umbraco Vulnerable to Improper File Access and Credential Exposure through Dictionary Import Functionality
Summary
Umbraco is an ASP.NET CMS. Due to unsafe handling and deletion of temporary files in versions 10.0.0 through 13.12.0, during the dictionary upload process an attacker with access to the backoffice can trigger predictable requests to temporary file paths. The application’s error responses (HTTP 500 when a file exists, 404 when it does not) allow the attacker to enumerate the existence of arbitrary files on the server’s filesystem. This vulnerability does not allow reading or writing file contents. In certain configurations, incomplete clean-up of temporary upload files may additionally expose the NTLM hash of the Windows account running the Umbraco application. This issue is fixed in version 13.12.1.

Due to unsafe handling and deletion of temporary files in versions 10.0.0 through 13.12.0, during the dictionary upload process an attacker with access to the backoffice can trigger predictable requests to temporary file paths. The application\u2019s error responses (HTTP 500 when a file exists, 404 when it does not) allow the attacker to enumerate the existence of arbitrary files on the server\u2019s filesystem. This vulnerability does not allow reading or writing file contents. In certain configurations, incomplete clean-up of temporary upload files may additionally expose the NTLM hash of the Windows account running the Umbraco application. This issue is fixed in version 13.12.1."

Title
Vasion Print (formerly PrinterLogic) Local Privilege Escalation via Insecure Temporary File Handling
Summary
Vasion Print (formerly PrinterLogic) Virtual Appliance Host versions prior to 25.1.102 and Application versions prior to 25.1.1413 (Windows client deployments) contain an insecure temporary-file handling vulnerability in the PrinterInstallerClient components. The software creates files as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM inside a directory under the control of the local user (C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Local\Temp\). An attacker who can place symbolic links or otherwise influence filenames in that directory can cause the service to follow the link and write to arbitrary filesystem locations as SYSTEM. This allows a local, unprivileged user to overwrite or create files as SYSTEM, leading to local privilege escalation and the ability to modify configuration files, replace or inject binaries, or otherwise compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. This vulnerability has been confirmed to be remediated, but it is unclear as to when the patch was introduced.

CAPEC-149: Explore for Predictable Temporary File Names

An attacker explores a target to identify the names and locations of predictable temporary files for the purpose of launching further attacks against the target. This involves analyzing naming conventions and storage locations of the temporary files created by a target application. If an attacker can predict the names of temporary files they can use this information to mount other attacks, such as information gathering and symlink attacks.

CAPEC-155: Screen Temporary Files for Sensitive Information

An adversary exploits the temporary, insecure storage of information by monitoring the content of files used to store temp data during an application's routine execution flow. Many applications use temporary files to accelerate processing or to provide records of state across multiple executions of the application. Sometimes, however, these temporary files may end up storing sensitive information. By screening an application's temporary files, an adversary might be able to discover such sensitive information. For example, web browsers often cache content to accelerate subsequent lookups. If the content contains sensitive information then the adversary could recover this from the web cache.
