GHSA-HXMP-PQCH-C8MM
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2020-12-09 18:21 – Updated: 2024-09-24 17:44Impact
A malicious or poorly-implemented homeserver can inject malformed events into a room by specifying a different room id in the path of a /send_join, /send_leave, /invite or /exchange_third_party_invite request.
This can lead to a denial of service in which future events will not be correctly sent to other servers over federation.
This affects any server which accepts federation requests from untrusted servers.
Patches
Issue is resolved by https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/pull/8776.
Workarounds
Homeserver administrators could limit access to the federation API to trusted servers (for example via federation_domain_whitelist).

GHSA-HXQX-XWVH-44M2
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-27 16:36 – Updated: 2023-08-28 13:59There is a possible denial of service vulnerability in the multipart parsing component of Rack. This vulnerability has been assigned the CVE identifier CVE-2022-30122.
Versions Affected: >= 1.2 Not affected: < 1.2 Fixed Versions: 2.0.9.1, 2.1.4.1, 2.2.3.1
Impact
Carefully crafted multipart POST requests can cause Rack's multipart parser to take much longer than expected, leading to a possible denial of service vulnerability.
Impacted code will use Rack's multipart parser to parse multipart posts. This includes directly using the multipart parser like this:
params = Rack::Multipart.parse_multipart(env)
But it also includes reading POST data from a Rack request object like this:
p request.POST # read POST data
p request.params # reads both query params and POST data
All users running an affected release should either upgrade or use one of the workarounds immediately.
Workarounds
There are no feasible workarounds for this issue.

GHSA-J26W-F9RQ-MR2Q
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-10-14 15:30 – Updated: 2025-11-03 21:31Description There exists a security vulnerability in Jetty's DosFilter which can be exploited by unauthorized users to cause remote denial-of-service (DoS) attack on the server using DosFilter. By repeatedly sending crafted requests, attackers can trigger OutofMemory errors and exhaust the server's memory finally.
Vulnerability details The Jetty DoSFilter (Denial of Service Filter) is a security filter designed to protect web applications against certain types of Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and other abusive behavior. It helps to mitigate excessive resource consumption by limiting the rate at which clients can make requests to the server. The DoSFilter monitors and tracks client request patterns, including request rates, and can take actions such as blocking or delaying requests from clients that exceed predefined thresholds. The internal tracking of requests in DoSFilter is the source of this OutOfMemory condition.
Impact Users of the DoSFilter may be subject to DoS attacks that will ultimately exhaust the memory of the server if they have not configured session passivation or an aggressive session inactivation timeout.
Patches The DoSFilter has been patched in all active releases to no longer support the session tracking mode, even if configured.

"details": "Description\nThere exists a security vulnerability in Jetty\u0027s DosFilter which can be exploited by unauthorized users to cause remote denial-of-service (DoS) attack on the server using DosFilter. By repeatedly sending crafted requests, attackers can trigger OutofMemory errors and exhaust the server\u0027s memory finally.\n\n\nVulnerability details\nThe Jetty DoSFilter (Denial of Service Filter) is a security filter designed to protect web applications against certain types of Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and other abusive behavior. It helps to mitigate excessive resource consumption by limiting the rate at which clients can make requests to the server. The DoSFilter monitors and tracks client request patterns, including request rates, and can take actions such as blocking or delaying requests from clients that exceed predefined thresholds. The internal tracking of requests in DoSFilter is the source of this OutOfMemory condition.\n\n\nImpact\nUsers of the DoSFilter may be subject to DoS attacks that will ultimately exhaust the memory of the server if they have not configured session passivation or an aggressive session inactivation timeout.\n\n\nPatches\nThe DoSFilter has been patched in all active releases to no longer support the session tracking mode, even if configured.\n\n\nPatched releases:\n\n * 9.4.54\n * 10.0.18\n * 11.0.18\n * 12.0.3",

GHSA-J27P-HQ53-9WGC
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-02-18 00:51 – Updated: 2026-03-05 21:59Summary
URL-backed media fetch handling allocated the entire response payload in memory (arrayBuffer) before enforcing maxBytes, allowing oversized responses to cause memory exhaustion.
Affected Versions
openclaw(npm): <2026.2.14clawdbot(npm): <=2026.1.24-3
Patched Versions
openclaw(npm):2026.2.14
Fix Commit
openclaw/openclawmain:00a08908892d1743d1fc52e5cbd9499dd5da2fe0
Details
Affected component:
- src/media/input-files.ts (fetchWithGuard)
When content-length is missing or incorrect, reading the body via response.arrayBuffer() buffers the full payload before a size check can run.
Proof of Concept
- Configure URL-based media input.
- Serve a response larger than
maxBytes(chunked transfer / nocontent-length). - Trigger the
fetchWithGuardURL fetch path.
Example local server (large response):
node -e 'require("http").createServer((_,res)=>{res.writeHead(200,{"content-type":"application/octet-stream"});for(let i=0;i<1024;i++)res.write(Buffer.alloc(1024*64));res.end();}).listen(18888)'
Impact
Availability loss via memory pressure from attacker-controlled remote media responses.
Mitigation
Until a patched release is available, disable URL-backed media inputs (or restrict to a tight hostname allowlist) and use conservative maxBytes limits.

Mitigation
Design throttling mechanisms into the system architecture. The best protection is to limit the amount of resources that an unauthorized user can cause to be expended. A strong authentication and access control model will help prevent such attacks from occurring in the first place. The login application should be protected against DoS attacks as much as possible. Limiting the database access, perhaps by caching result sets, can help minimize the resources expended. To further limit the potential for a DoS attack, consider tracking the rate of requests received from users and blocking requests that exceed a defined rate threshold.
Mitigation
- Mitigation of resource exhaustion attacks requires that the target system either:
- The first of these solutions is an issue in itself though, since it may allow attackers to prevent the use of the system by a particular valid user. If the attacker impersonates the valid user, they may be able to prevent the user from accessing the server in question.
- The second solution is simply difficult to effectively institute -- and even when properly done, it does not provide a full solution. It simply makes the attack require more resources on the part of the attacker.
- recognizes the attack and denies that user further access for a given amount of time, or
- uniformly throttles all requests in order to make it more difficult to consume resources more quickly than they can again be freed.
Mitigation
Ensure that protocols have specific limits of scale placed on them.
Mitigation
Ensure that all failures in resource allocation place the system into a safe posture.
CAPEC-147: XML Ping of the Death
An attacker initiates a resource depletion attack where a large number of small XML messages are delivered at a sufficiently rapid rate to cause a denial of service or crash of the target. Transactions such as repetitive SOAP transactions can deplete resources faster than a simple flooding attack because of the additional resources used by the SOAP protocol and the resources necessary to process SOAP messages. The transactions used are immaterial as long as they cause resource utilization on the target. In other words, this is a normal flooding attack augmented by using messages that will require extra processing on the target.
CAPEC-227: Sustained Client Engagement
An adversary attempts to deny legitimate users access to a resource by continually engaging a specific resource in an attempt to keep the resource tied up as long as possible. The adversary's primary goal is not to crash or flood the target, which would alert defenders; rather it is to repeatedly perform actions or abuse algorithmic flaws such that a given resource is tied up and not available to a legitimate user. By carefully crafting a requests that keep the resource engaged through what is seemingly benign requests, legitimate users are limited or completely denied access to the resource.
CAPEC-492: Regular Expression Exponential Blowup
An adversary may execute an attack on a program that uses a poor Regular Expression(Regex) implementation by choosing input that results in an extreme situation for the Regex. A typical extreme situation operates at exponential time compared to the input size. This is due to most implementations using a Nondeterministic Finite Automaton(NFA) state machine to be built by the Regex algorithm since NFA allows backtracking and thus more complex regular expressions.
