Title
bpf: Preserve param->string when parsing mount options
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Preserve param->string when parsing mount options In bpf_parse_param(), keep the value of param->string intact so it can be freed later. Otherwise, the kmalloc area pointed to by param->string will be leaked as shown below: unreferenced object 0xffff888118c46d20 (size 8): comm "new_name", pid 12109, jiffies 4295580214 hex dump (first 8 bytes): 61 6e 79 00 38 c9 5c 7e any.8.\~ backtrace (crc e1b7f876): [<00000000c6848ac7>] kmemleak_alloc+0x4b/0x80 [<00000000de9f7d00>] __kmalloc_node_track_caller_noprof+0x36e/0x4a0 [<000000003e29b886>] memdup_user+0x32/0xa0 [<0000000007248326>] strndup_user+0x46/0x60 [<0000000035b3dd29>] __x64_sys_fsconfig+0x368/0x3d0 [<0000000018657927>] x64_sys_call+0xff/0x9f0 [<00000000c0cabc95>] do_syscall_64+0x3b/0xc0 [<000000002f331597>] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x4b/0x53

              "value": "AV:L - The bug is reached through the fsopen(2)/fsconfig(2) syscall pair (or mount(2) with monolithic options) against the bpf filesystem, requiring local system access. There is no remote or adjacent-network path to bpffs mount-option parsing.\nAC:L - A single deterministic fsconfig() call with delegate_cmds=\"x:any\" reliably triggers the interior-pointer kfree(), and a trivial loop reliably drives the unbounded leak; no race, timing window, or uncontrollable precondition is involved. CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL/bpffs is enabled in essentially all distribution kernels.\nPR:L - bpf_fs_type is FS_USERNS_MOUNT and fsopen() only requires ns_capable(mnt_ns-\u003euser_ns, CAP_SYS_ADMIN), so any unprivileged user can reach bpf_parse_param() via unshare -Urm. The CAP_SYS_ADMIN check on delegation options executes only after the buggy strsep loop, so it provides no protection.\nUI:N - The attacker performs the entire sequence \u2014 create a user/mount namespace, fsopen the bpf filesystem, issue fsconfig \u2014 with no action by any other user. No victim must mount anything or open any file.\nS:U - The corruption and resource exhaustion occur in the kernel slab allocator of the same host, within the same security authority. No VM, IOMMU, or hypervisor boundary is crossed.\nC:H - Freeing an interior pointer inserts a misaligned address into the SLUB freelist, so a subsequent allocation returns a chunk overlapping adjacent live objects \u2014 a type-confusion/aliasing primitive that lets the attacker read kernel data belonging to other allocations. Per kernel scoring guidance, slab corruption of this class is treated as a full confidentiality compromise.\nI:H - The same misaligned kfree() causes set_freepointer() to write a heap pointer out of bounds of the freed chunk and hands out overlapping allocations, giving an attacker-usable write primitive over adjacent slab objects. Heap freelist corruption of this kind is the standard basis for privilege escalation.\nA:H - Slab freelist corruption produces kernel panics/oopses (and is caught immediately as an invalid free on KASAN/SLUB_DEBUG builds), and the leak variant lets an unprivileged user drain kernel memory in an unbounded loop until OOM. Either path yields a full denial of service."

Related by attack behaviour

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
