Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-04-10 00:30 – Updated: 2026-04-10 00:30
VLAI
Details

A Missing Release of Memory after Effective Lifetime vulnerability in the Layer 2 Address Learning Daemon (l2ald) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an adjacent, unauthenticated attacker to cause a memory leak ultimately leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).

In an EVPN-MPLS scenario, routes learned from remote multi-homed Provider Edge (PE) devices are programmed as ESI routes. Due to a logic issue in the l2ald memory management, memory allocated for these routes is not released when there is churn for these routes. As a result, memory leaks in the l2ald process which will ultimately lead to a crash and restart of l2ald.

Use the following command to monitor the memory consumption by l2ald:

user@device> show system process extensive | match "PID|l2ald"

This issue affects:

Junos OS:

  • all versions before 22.4R3-S5,
  • 23.2 versions before 23.2R2-S3,
  • 23.4 versions before 23.4R2-S4,
  • 24.2 versions before 24.2R2;

Junos OS Evolved:

  • all versions before 22.4R3-S5-EVO,
  • 23.2 versions before 23.2R2-S3-EVO,
  • 23.4 versions before 23.4R2-S4-EVO,
  • 24.2 versions before 24.2R2-EVO.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-24 18:32 – Updated: 2026-09-07 18:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

wifi: ath11k: fix memory leaks in beacon template setup

The functions ath11k_mac_setup_bcn_tmpl_ema() and ath11k_mac_setup_bcn_tmpl_mbssid() allocate memory for beacon templates but fail to free it when parameter setup returns an error.

Since beacon templates must be released during normal execution, they must also be released in the error handling paths to prevent memory leaks.

Fix this by using unified exit paths with proper cleanup in the respective error paths.

Compile tested only. Issue found using a prototype static analysis tool and code review.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-25 09:31 – Updated: 2026-07-02 21:32
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

tee: shm: fix shm leak in register_shm_helper()

register_shm_helper() allocates shm before calling iov_iter_npages(). If iov_iter_npages() returns 0, the function jumps to err_ctx_put and leaks shm.

This can be triggered by TEE_IOC_SHM_REGISTER with struct tee_ioctl_shm_register_data where length is 0.

Jump to err_free_shm instead.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

ASoC: codecs: wcd937x: fix a potential memory leak in wcd937x_soc_codec_probe()

When snd_soc_dapm_new_controls() or snd_soc_dapm_add_routes() fails, wcd937x_soc_codec_probe() returns without releasing 'wcd937x->clsh_info', which is allocated by wcd_clsh_ctrl_alloc. Add wcd_clsh_ctrl_free() to prevent potential memory leak.

GHSA-WGRH-WQ84-J2XM

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-08-19 18:31 – Updated: 2025-11-26 18:30
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net/mlx5e: Remove skb secpath if xfrm state is not found

Hardware returns a unique identifier for a decrypted packet's xfrm state, this state is looked up in an xarray. However, the state might have been freed by the time of this lookup.

Currently, if the state is not found, only a counter is incremented. The secpath (sp) extension on the skb is not removed, resulting in sp->len becoming 0.

Subsequently, functions like __xfrm_policy_check() attempt to access fields such as xfrm_input_state(skb)->xso.type (which dereferences sp->xvec[sp->len - 1]) without first validating sp->len. This leads to a crash when dereferencing an invalid state pointer.

This patch prevents the crash by explicitly removing the secpath extension from the skb if the xfrm state is not found after hardware decryption. This ensures downstream functions do not operate on a zero-length secpath.

Mitigation MIT-41
Implementation

Strategy: Libraries or Frameworks

  • Choose a language or tool that provides automatic memory management, or makes manual memory management less error-prone.
  • For example, glibc in Linux provides protection against free of invalid pointers.
  • When using Xcode to target OS X or iOS, enable automatic reference counting (ARC) [REF-391].
  • To help correctly and consistently manage memory when programming in C++, consider using a smart pointer class such as std::auto_ptr (defined by ISO/IEC ISO/IEC 14882:2003), std::shared_ptr and std::unique_ptr (specified by an upcoming revision of the C++ standard, informally referred to as C++ 1x), or equivalent solutions such as Boost.
Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Use an abstraction library to abstract away risky APIs. Not a complete solution.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design Build and Compilation

Consider using the Boehm-Demers-Weiser garbage collector (bdwgc), which can help avoid leaks.
