    CVE-2026-84366 (GCVE-0-2026-84366)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2026-09-01 20:29 – Updated: 2026-09-02 16:02

    Title
Scrapy: S3DownloadHandler sends signed S3 requests over plaintext HTTP by default
    Summary
Scrapy is a high-level web crawling and scraping framework for Python. Prior to 2.17.0, in scrapy/core/downloader/handlers/s3.py, Scrapy's S3DownloadHandler converts an S3-scheme bucket and key request into a plaintext HTTP request to the corresponding S3 endpoint unless request.meta["is_secure"] is explicitly enabled, then signs and sends the plaintext request with configured AWS credentials. A network attacker who can observe traffic between Scrapy and S3 can read the bucket and key path, AWS Authorization header, X-Amz-Security-Token when temporary credentials are used, S3 object contents, and S3 response headers. An active man-in-the-middle attacker can also modify the plaintext S3 response body, status code, and headers before Scrapy processes them, causing scraped-data poisoning, poisoned exports, HTTP cache poisoning when caching is enabled, or influence over later crawl targets through forged redirects or attacker-controlled links. Users making S3-scheme requests with AWS credentials are affected. This issue is fixed in version 2.17.0.

    CVE-2026-55520 (GCVE-0-2026-55520)

    Title
Protego: Exponential backtracking ReDoS in robots.txt URL wildcard matching
    Summary
Protego is a pure-Python robots.txt parser with support for modern conventions. Prior to 0.6.2, protego._urlpattern._URLPattern._prepare_pattern_for_regex translates every asterisk in an Allow or Disallow directive into a lazy regular-expression wildcard, so a directive containing many asterisks creates exponential backtracking. After protego.Protego.parse processes a crafted robots.txt file, protego.Protego.can_fetch can spend an attacker-controlled period matching a near-miss URL and deny service to the crawler. The vulnerable path is src/protego/_urlpattern.py in the _URLPattern match logic. This issue is fixed in version 0.6.2.

    Title
Brotli decompression bomb DoS in scrapy/scrapy
    Summary
Scrapy versions up to 2.13.2 are vulnerable to a denial of service (DoS) attack due to a flaw in its brotli decompression implementation. The protection mechanism against decompression bombs fails to mitigate the brotli variant, allowing remote servers to crash clients with less than 80GB of available memory. This occurs because brotli can achieve extremely high compression ratios for zero-filled data, leading to excessive memory consumption during decompression.

    Title
Authorization Header Leakage in scrapy/scrapy on Scheme Change Redirects
    Summary
In scrapy/scrapy, an issue was identified where the Authorization header is not removed during redirects that only change the scheme (e.g., HTTPS to HTTP) but remain within the same domain. This behavior contravenes the Fetch standard, which mandates the removal of Authorization headers in cross-origin requests when the scheme, host, or port changes. Consequently, when a redirect downgrades from HTTPS to HTTP, the Authorization header may be inadvertently exposed in plaintext, leading to potential sensitive information disclosure to unauthorized actors. The flaw is located in the _build_redirect_request function of the redirect middleware.

    Title
Authorization Header Leak During Cross-Domain Redirect in scrapy/scrapy
    Summary
In scrapy version 2.10.1, an issue was identified where the Authorization header, containing credentials for server authentication, is leaked to a third-party site during a cross-domain redirect. This vulnerability arises from the failure to remove the Authorization header when redirecting across domains. The exposure of the Authorization header to unauthorized actors could potentially allow for account hijacking.

    Title
    ReDoS Vulnerability in scrapy/scrapy's XMLFeedSpider
    Summary
A Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) vulnerability exists in the XMLFeedSpider class of the scrapy/scrapy project, specifically in the parsing of XML content. By crafting malicious XML content that exploits inefficient regular expression complexity used in the parsing process, an attacker can cause a denial-of-service (DoS) condition. This vulnerability allows for the system to hang and consume significant resources, potentially rendering services that utilize Scrapy for XML processing unresponsive.

    CVE-2021-41125 (GCVE-0-2021-41125)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2021-10-06 17:15 – Updated: 2024-08-04 02:59
    VLAI
    Title
HTTP authentication credential leak to target websites in scrapy
    Summary
Scrapy is a high-level web crawling and scraping framework for Python. If you use `HttpAuthMiddleware` (i.e. the `http_user` and `http_pass` spider attributes) for HTTP authentication, all requests will expose your credentials to the request target. This includes requests generated by Scrapy components, such as `robots.txt` requests sent by Scrapy when the `ROBOTSTXT_OBEY` setting is set to `True`, or as requests reached through redirects. Upgrade to Scrapy 2.5.1 and use the new `http_auth_domain` spider attribute to control which domains are allowed to receive the configured HTTP authentication credentials. If you are using Scrapy 1.8 or a lower version, and upgrading to Scrapy 2.5.1 is not an option, you may upgrade to Scrapy 1.8.1 instead. If you cannot upgrade, set your HTTP authentication credentials on a per-request basis, using for example the `w3lib.http.basic_auth_header` function to convert your credentials into a value that you can assign to the `Authorization` header of your request, instead of defining your credentials globally using `HttpAuthMiddleware`.

    CVE-2017-14158 (GCVE-0-2017-14158)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2017-09-05 17:00 – Updated: 2024-08-05 19:20
    VLAI
    Summary
Scrapy 1.4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via large files because arbitrarily many files are read into memory, which is especially problematic if the files are then individually written in a separate thread to a slow storage resource, as demonstrated by interaction between dataReceived (in core/downloader/handlers/http11.py) and S3FilesStore.

    CVE-2026-84366 (GCVE-0-2026-84366)

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2026-09-01 20:29 – Updated: 2026-09-02 16:02
    VLAI

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2021-10-06 17:15 – Updated: 2024-08-04 02:59

If you cannot upgrade, set your HTTP authentication credentials on a per-request basis, using for example the `w3lib.http.basic_auth_header` function to convert your credentials into a value that you can assign to the `Authorization` header of your request, instead of defining your credentials globally using `HttpAuthMiddleware`."

    CVE-2017-14158 (GCVE-0-2017-14158)

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2017-09-05 17:00 – Updated: 2024-08-05 19:20
    VLAI
    Severity
