Title
fs/ntfs3: Validate data run offset
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs/ntfs3: Validate data run offset This adds sanity checks for data run offset. We should make sure data run offset is legit before trying to unpack them, otherwise we may encounter use-after-free or some unexpected memory access behaviors. "value": "AV:L - Exploitation requires mounting a crafted NTFS image so the ntfs3 driver parses malicious MFT attribute run lists locally via the mount syscall path (ntfs_fill_super \u2192 ntfs_iget5 \u2192 run_unpack); it is not reachable from the network stack.\nAC:L - The attacker fully controls the on-disk NTFS metadata (run_off and attribute size), so the invalid offset and resulting out-of-bounds/UAF access in run_unpack can be triggered reliably with no race or other conditions outside attacker control.\nPR:N - No privileges on the target are required; the attacker only supplies a malicious NTFS image (USB/media or file) that a victim mounts, matching the established kernel CNA model for crafted-filesystem bugs (e.g. CVE-2022-50841).\nUI:R - A user or automounter must mount the crafted NTFS volume to reach ntfs_fill_super/ntfs_iget5 and unpack the malicious data runs; the PoC stack is in the mount task.\nS:U - Impact is confined to the local kernel\u0027s security authority (memory corruption / privilege escalation within the host kernel); there is no VM escape, IOMMU bypass, or other cross-boundary scope change.\nC:H - Invalid run_off causes run_unpack to read past the MFT record into freed or adjacent kernel memory (KASAN UAF read of size 1), and per UAF guidance this enables arbitrary information disclosure via heap reuse/spray.\nI:H - The same UAF/OOB parse feeds attacker-influenced run data into run_add_entry and mark_as_free_ex, and UAF memory corruption is treated as enabling arbitrary write / control-flow hijacking primitives.\nA:H - The demonstrated KASAN use-after-free in run_unpack can crash the kernel (oops/panic), so availability impact is High."
