Summary
Red Hat Security Advisory: Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16.2 (python-waitress) security update

Notes

Topic
An update for python-waitress is now available for Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16.2 (Train) for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.4. Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having a security impact of Important. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available for each vulnerability from the CVE link(s) in the References section.
Details
Pure-python WSGI server Security Fix(es): * python-waitress: request processing race condition in HTTP pipelining with invalid first request (CVE-2024-49768) * Waitress has a denial of service leading to high CPU usage/resource exhaustion (CVE-2024-49769) For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page listed in the References section.

A remote client can send a request that is exactly `recv_bytes`, which defaults to 8192 long, followed by a secondary request using HTTP pipelining. When request lookahead is disabled (default), Waitress won\u0027t read any more requests, and when the first request fails due to a parsing error, it simply closes the connection. \n\nHowever when request lookahead is enabled, it is possible to process and receive the first request, start sending the error message back to the client while we read the next request and queue it. This will allow the secondary request to be serviced by the worker thread while the connection should be closed.",
