GHSA-5PVG-856G-CP85
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-08 23:02 – Updated: 2026-08-13 15:34Summary
Netty's DnsResolveContext insufficiently validates the bailiwick of NS records, enabling DNS Cache Poisoning. An attacker controlling an authoritative name server for a subdomain can poison the cache for parent domains (like .co.uk).
Details
In io.netty.resolver.dns.DnsResolveContext.AuthoritativeNameServerList#add method accepts any NS record from the AUTHORITY section as long as the record's name is a suffix of the questionName.
This means if the resolver queries evil.co.uk., it will accept an NS record claiming authority over co.uk.. Subsequently, the handleWithAdditional method caches the associated A records from the ADDITIONAL section directly into the authoritativeDnsServerCache under the parent domain's key (co.uk.). This bypasses standard bailiwick rules, where a server authoritative for a subdomain should not be trusted to provide authoritative records for its parent. The poisoned cache is then used for all future resolutions under co.uk..
The io.netty.resolver.dns.DnsResolveContext.AuthoritativeNameServerList#cache method only prevents caching if the record is for the root zone (dots == 1).
Impact
DNS Cache Poisoning. Any application using Netty's DNS resolver is impacted.

GHSA-5W86-C3RQ-VJJ7
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-15 20:46 – Updated: 2026-06-15 20:46Summary
RedisArrayAggregator pre-allocates ArrayList with initial capacity equal to the RESP array element count declared in an array header. That count is taken from the wire before the corresponding child messages exist. A small malicious header can claim a huge initial capacity.
Details
The aggregator starts a new aggregation level when it receives an ArrayHeaderRedisMessage. For positive lengths it pushes AggregateState, whose constructor runs new ArrayList<>(length). No configurable maximum is applied in this handler, and the peer does not need to supply the array elements for the backing array allocation to occur.
In the same pipeline, RedisDecoder enforces RedisConstants.REDIS_MESSAGE_MAX_LENGTH for bulk string lengths but does not apply that cap to array header lengths. Declared array sizes can therefore be extremely large while still passing decoding, and the aggregator immediately attempts Object[] reservation.
io.netty.handler.codec.redis.RedisDecoder#decodeLength io.netty.handler.codec.redis.RedisArrayAggregator#decodeRedisArrayHeader
Impact
Availability / resource exhaustion via unbounded pre-allocation from untrusted RESP array headers.

GHSA-5X3R-WRVG-RP6Q
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-08 23:02 – Updated: 2026-06-12 19:30Impact
DefaultHttp2Connection.DefaultEndpoint initialises maxActiveStreams/maxStreams to Integer.MAX_VALUE, and Http2Settings never inserts SETTINGS_MAX_CONCURRENT_STREAMS by default (Http2Settings.java:305-307 only clamps a user-supplied value). Unless the application explicitly calls initialSettings().maxConcurrentStreams(n), a Netty HTTP/2 server advertises no limit and enforces none locally. Each open stream allocates a DefaultStream object, PropertyMap slots, flow-controller state and IntObjectHashMap entry; with ~2^30 permissible odd stream IDs a single TCP connection can create hundreds of thousands of long-lived stream objects. This is also the precondition for CVE-2023-44487-style Rapid-Reset amplification, where the absence of a low concurrent cap multiplies backend work.

GHSA-5XRH-QMMQ-W6CH
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-08 23:02 – Updated: 2026-06-12 19:29For each non-complete SctpMessage fragment the handler does fragments.put(streamId, Unpooled.wrappedBuffer(frag, byteBuf)), wrapping the previous accumulator and the new slice into a new CompositeByteBuf every time. After N fragments the accumulator is an N-deep chain of composites, each holding references and component arrays; readableBytes()/getBytes() on the final buffer recurse N levels. There is no limit on N, on total bytes, or on the number of streamIdentifiers an attacker can open (each gets its own map entry). A peer that never sets the complete flag can grow this structure indefinitely from tiny 1-byte DATA chunks.

GHSA-676X-F7GG-47VC
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-08 23:02 – Updated: 2026-08-13 15:34Summary
Netty's DnsResolveContext fails to validate the origin (bailiwick) of CNAME records in DNS responses.
Details
In io.netty.resolver.dns.DnsResolveContext#buildAliasMap, the resolver processes the ANSWER section of a DNS response and blindly caches all CNAME records it finds.
According to https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc5452#section-6
Care must be taken to only accept
data if it is known that the originator is authoritative for the
QNAME or a parent of the QNAME.
One very simple way to achieve this is to only accept data if it is
part of the domain for which the query was intended.
Impact
DNS Cache Poisoning (Bailiwick Bypass). Any application using Netty's DNS resolver is impacted.

GHSA-6GHJ-FRRJ-JJJ3
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-08 19:02 – Updated: 2026-06-12 19:27Summary
An attacker can cause DoS by sending crafted Redis payloads across multiple connections without \r\n. This exhausts the server's direct memory pool (OutOfDirectMemoryError), preventing legitimate connections from being processed.
Details
io.netty.handler.codec.redis.RedisDecoder decodes the length of bulk strings and array headers using the decodeLength method. This method reads bytes from the network until it encounters a \n character. However, it does not enforce any maximum length check while buffering the bytes if the \n character is not found. An attacker can exploit this by sending a continuous stream of digits (e.g., $1111...) without ever sending a \n.
To cause a true Denial of Service, an attacker must open multiple concurrent connections and distribute the unbounded payloads among them.
According to the RESP specification (https://redis.io/docs/latest/develop/reference/protocol-spec/), all parts of the protocol are strictly terminated with \r\n. Furthermore, the length prefix itself is an integer representation that must fit within standard numeric limits (e.g., a 64-bit signed integer). Therefore, a stream of digits exceeding these bounds without \r\n is a protocol violation and should be rejected immediately rather than buffered indefinitely.
Impact
Denial of Service due to memory exhaustion. Any application using Netty's RedisDecoder to handle untrusted Redis traffic is vulnerable.

GHSA-6JV9-X5W9-2CCM
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-11 13:26 – Updated: 2026-08-12 12:32Impact
The RedisArrayAggregator handler permanently leaks pooled direct-memory buffers when a Redis pipeline connection closes before a RESP array aggregate completes. The handler retains child messages in per-handler state (depths field) but defines no channelInactive, handlerRemoved, or exceptionCaught method to release them when the pipeline tears down. Because the leaked buffers are slices of PooledByteBufAllocator chunks, they prevent those chunks from being returned to the JVM-wide direct-memory pool. Repeated connection churn by any network peer monotonically drains this shared pool, eventually causing allocation failures on all Netty channels in the process.

GHSA-C2GF-V879-257J
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-11 13:28 – Updated: 2026-08-13 15:34Impact
The DelegatingDecompressorFrameListener class orchestrates HTTP/2 decompression by embedding a per-stream EmbeddedChannel that runs the appropriate decompression codec (gzip, deflate, zstd) and forwards decompressed chunks to a wrapped listener. Each decompressed chunk is a pooled ByteBuf handed to an anonymous ChannelInboundHandlerAdapter tail handler, which becomes the sole owner responsible for releasing it.
A remote peer could send frames that would result in the flow-controller throwing and so trigger a resource leak which at the end might take down the whole JVM due OOME.

"details": "### Impact\n\nThe `DelegatingDecompressorFrameListener` class orchestrates HTTP/2 decompression by embedding a per-stream `EmbeddedChannel` that runs the appropriate decompression codec (gzip, deflate, zstd) and forwards decompressed chunks to a wrapped listener. Each decompressed chunk is a pooled `ByteBuf` handed to an anonymous `ChannelInboundHandlerAdapter` tail handler, which becomes the sole owner responsible for releasing it.\n\nA remote peer could send frames that would result in the flow-controller throwing and so trigger a resource leak which at the end might take down the whole JVM due OOME.",

GHSA-C653-97M9-RCG9
Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-15 20:45 – Updated: 2026-06-15 20:45SimpleTrustManagerFactory.engineGetTrustManagers() and related paths wrap any user-supplied plain X509TrustManager in X509TrustManagerWrapper, which extends X509ExtendedTrustManager but implements the 3-arg checkServerTrusted(chain, authType, SSLEngine) by discarding the SSLEngine and calling the 2-arg delegate. Because the object now IS an X509ExtendedTrustManager, neither SunJSSE's internal AbstractTrustManagerWrapper nor Netty's own OpenSslX509TrustManagerWrapper will re-wrap it to add endpoint-identification. Consequently, even though Netty 4.2 sets endpointIdentificationAlgorithm="HTTPS" by default, a client built with SslContextBuilder.forClient().trustManager(somePlainX509TrustManager) performs no hostname verification at all.
