On BlueField management deployments, i2c group or otherwise relaxed device permissions are a realistic worst case, so a non-root local user can reach the path (higher severity than assuming root-only 0600).\nUI:N - The attacker triggers the vulnerable ioctl/transaction path themselves; no victim mount, file open, or other interactive action is required.\nS:U - Impact is ordinary in-kernel stack memory corruption on the BlueField host OS authority. The slave/IPMB path is separate and this is not a VM escape, IOMMU bypass, or host/DPU boundary cross.\nC:H - The bug is a stack buffer overflow via memcpy of attacker-controlled SMBus write data into a fixed 128-byte data_desc; such stack corruption is scored as enabling high confidentiality impact (info disclosure / read primitives) under the higher-severity rule.\nI:H - Attacker-controlled out-of-bounds stack writes can overwrite saved return addresses and adjacent stack state, yielding a control-flow/arbitrary-write primitive and Integrity High for this class of memory corruption.\nA:H - Corrupting the kernel stack in mlxbf_i2c_smbus_start_transaction reliably causes oops/panic or otherwise denies service, which is Availability High under kernel CVSS guidance."

On BlueField management deployments, i2c group or otherwise relaxed device permissions are a realistic worst case, so a non-root local user can reach the path (higher severity than assuming root-only 0600).\\nUI:N - The attacker triggers the vulnerable ioctl/transaction path themselves; no victim mount, file open, or other interactive action is required.\\nS:U - Impact is ordinary in-kernel stack memory corruption on the BlueField host OS authority. The slave/IPMB path is separate and this is not a VM escape, IOMMU bypass, or host/DPU boundary cross.\\nC:H - The bug is a stack buffer overflow via memcpy of attacker-controlled SMBus write data into a fixed 128-byte data_desc; such stack corruption is scored as enabling high confidentiality impact (info disclosure / read primitives) under the higher-severity rule.\\nI:H - Attacker-controlled out-of-bounds stack writes can overwrite saved return addresses and adjacent stack state, yielding a control-flow/arbitrary-write primitive and Integrity High for this class of memory corruption.\\nA:H - Corrupting the kernel stack in mlxbf_i2c_smbus_start_transaction reliably causes oops/panic or otherwise denies service, which is Availability High under kernel CVSS guidance.\"}]}], \"affected\": [{\"repo\": \"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git\", \"vendor\": \"Linux\", \"product\": \"Linux\", \"versions\": [{\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"b5b5b32081cd206baa6e58cca7f112d9723785d6\", \"lessThan\": \"48ee0a864d1af02eea98fc825cc230d61517a71e\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}, {\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"b5b5b32081cd206baa6e58cca7f112d9723785d6\", \"lessThan\": \"dc2a0c587006f29b724069740c48654b9dcaebd2\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}, {\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"b5b5b32081cd206baa6e58cca7f112d9723785d6\", \"lessThan\": \"3b5ab5fbe69ebbee5692c72b05071a43fc0655d8\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}, {\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"b5b5b32081cd206baa6e58cca7f112d9723785d6\", \"lessThan\": \"de24aceb07d426b6f1c59f33889d6a964770547b\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}], \"programFiles\": [\"drivers/i2c/busses/i2c-mlxbf.c\"], \"defaultStatus\": \"unaffected\"}, {\"repo\": \"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git\", \"vendor\": \"Linux\", \"product\": \"Linux\", \"versions\": [{\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"5.10\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"0\", \"lessThan\": \"5.10\", \"versionType\": \"semver\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"5.10.146\", \"versionType\": \"semver\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"5.10.*\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"5.15.71\", \"versionType\": \"semver\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"5.15.*\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"5.19.12\", \"versionType\": \"semver\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"5.19.*\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"6.0\", \"versionType\": \"original_commit_for_fix\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"*\"}], \"programFiles\": [\"drivers/i2c/busses/i2c-mlxbf.c\"], \"defaultStatus\": \"affected\"}], \"references\": [{\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/48ee0a864d1af02eea98fc825cc230d61517a71e\"}, {\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/dc2a0c587006f29b724069740c48654b9dcaebd2\"}, {\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/3b5ab5fbe69ebbee5692c72b05071a43fc0655d8\"}, {\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/de24aceb07d426b6f1c59f33889d6a964770547b\"}], \"x_generator\": {\"engine\": \"bippy-1.2.0\"}, \"descriptions\": [{\"lang\": \"en\", \"value\": \"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\\n\\ni2c: mlxbf: prevent stack overflow in mlxbf_i2c_smbus_start_transaction()\\n\\nmemcpy() is called in a loop while \u0027operation-\u003elength\u0027 upper bound\\nis not checked and \u0027data_idx\u0027 also increments.\"}], \"cpeApplicability\": [{\"nodes\": [{\"negate\": false, \"cpeMatch\": [{\"criteria\": \"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*\", \"vulnerable\": true, \"versionEndExcluding\": \"5.10.146\", \"versionStartIncluding\": \"5.10\"}, {\"criteria\": \"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*\", \"vulnerable\": true, \"versionEndExcluding\": \"5.15.71\", \"versionStartIncluding\": \"5.10\"}, {\"criteria\": \"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*\", \"vulnerable\": true, \"versionEndExcluding\": \"5.19.12\", \"versionStartIncluding\": \"5.10\"}, {\"criteria\": \"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*\", \"vulnerable\": true, \"versionEndExcluding\": \"6.0\", \"versionStartIncluding\": \"5.10\"}], \"operator\": \"OR\"}]}], \"providerMetadata\": {\"orgId\": \"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67\", \"shortName\": \"Linux\", \"dateUpdated\": \"2026-08-05T08:51:34.167Z\"}}}",
