Topic: Updated postgresql packages that fix several security vulnerabilities are now available for the Red Hat Application Stack. This update has been rated as having moderate security impact by the Red Hat Security Response Team.

Details: PostgreSQL is an advanced Object-Relational database management system (DBMS). A flaw was found in the way PostgreSQL allows authenticated users to execute security-definer functions. It was possible for an unprivileged user to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the security-definer function. (CVE-2007-2138) Users of PostgreSQL should upgrade to these updated packages containing PostgreSQL version 8.1.9 which corrects this issue.

Untrusted search path vulnerability in PostgreSQL before 7.3.19, 7.4.x before 7.4.17, 8.0.x before 8.0.13, 8.1.x before 8.1.9, and 8.2.x before 8.2.4 allows remote authenticated users, when permitted to call a SECURITY DEFINER function, to gain the privileges of the function owner, related to "search_path settings."

Following the VTEM framework (Black Hat USA 2015), time to patch starts when the vendor or a coordinator was informed, total time to patch at discovery, and disclosure to patch at public disclosure; vendor response time runs from the report to its acknowledgement. Time to exploit and time unpatched start at the earliest discovery or report, falling back to public disclosure. Unpatched time ends at the first recorded patch, or the calculation time when no patch is recorded. Exploitation to patch shows the interval between those two events; a published proof of concept is a public exploit, not exploitation.
