RHSA-2012:1505
Vulnerability from csaf_redhat - Published: 2012-12-04 18:40 - Updated: 2026-06-28 12:22The vds_installer in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager (RHEV-M) before 3.1, when adding a host, uses the -k curl parameter when downloading deployUtil.py and vds_bootstrap.py, which prevents SSL certificates from being validated and allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary Python code via a man-in-the-middle attack.

"text": "The rhev-hypervisor6 package provides a Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization\nHypervisor ISO disk image. The Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor\nis a dedicated Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor. It includes\neverything necessary to run and manage virtual machines: A subset of the\nRed Hat Enterprise Linux operating environment and the Red Hat Enterprise\nVirtualization Agent.\n\nNote: Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor is only available for\nthe Intel 64 and AMD64 architectures with virtualization extensions.\n\nA flaw was found in the way Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor\nhosts were added to the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environment. The\nPython scripts needed to configure the host for Red Hat Enterprise\nVirtualization were downloaded in an insecure way, that is, without\nproperly validating SSL certificates during HTTPS connections. An attacker\non the local network could use this flaw to conduct a man-in-the-middle\nattack, potentially gaining root access to the host being added to the Red\nHat Enterprise Virtualization environment. This update provides the VDSM\npart of the fix. The RHSA-2012:1506 Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization\nManager update must also be installed to completely fix this issue.\n(CVE-2012-0861)\n\nThe CVE-2012-0861 issue was discovered by Red Hat.\n\nThis updated package provides updated components that include a fix for one\nsecurity issue. This issue had no security impact on Red Hat Enterprise\nVirtualization Hypervisor itself, however. The security fix included in\nthis update addresses the following CVE number:\n\nCVE-2012-0860 (VDSM issue)\n\nThis updated Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor package also\nfixes the following bug:\n\n* This update adds Hypervisor support for use in Red Hat Enterprise\nVirtualization 3.1 compatible clusters. (BZ#846811)\n\nThis update includes:\n\n* A fence-agents bug fix update (RHBA-2012:1439).\n https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2012-1439.html\n\n* An ovirt-node bug fix update (RHBA-2012:1500).\n https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2012-1500.html\n\n* A libvirt bug fix update (RHBA-2012:1501).\n https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2012-1501.html\n\n* A sanlock bug fix and enhancement update (RHBA-2012:1507).\n https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2012-1507.html\n\n* An important vdsm security and enhancement update (RHSA-2012:1508).\n https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2012-1508.html\n\n* A qemu-kvm-rhev bug fix update (RHBA-2012:1510).\n https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2012-1510.html\n\nUsers of the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor are advised to\nupgrade to this updated package, which includes these security updates, bug\nfixes and enhancements.",

Nomenclature
- Seen: The vulnerability was mentioned, discussed, or observed by the user.
- Confirmed: The vulnerability has been validated from an analyst's perspective.
- Published Proof of Concept: A public proof of concept is available for this vulnerability.
- Exploited: The vulnerability was observed as exploited by the user who reported the sighting.
- Patched: The vulnerability was observed as successfully patched by the user who reported the sighting.
- Not exploited: The vulnerability was not observed as exploited by the user who reported the sighting.
- Not confirmed: The user expressed doubt about the validity of the vulnerability.
- Not patched: The vulnerability was not observed as successfully patched by the user who reported the sighting.

How durations are calculated
Following the VTEM framework (Black Hat USA 2015), time to patch starts when the vendor or a coordinator was informed, total time to patch at discovery, and disclosure to patch at public disclosure; vendor response time runs from the report to its acknowledgement. Time to exploit and time unpatched start at the earliest discovery or report, falling back to public disclosure. Unpatched time ends at the first recorded patch, or the calculation time when no patch is recorded. Exploitation to patch shows the interval between those two events; a published proof of concept is a public exploit, not exploitation.
Each result shows its source dates. A negative interval means the end event came first; when date-only inputs leave the order open, the result says so. Date-only inputs are approximate. The earliest evidence wins: KEV report dates and sightings are labelled as such. Records describing another vulnerability are listed but never calculated from, and a PoC alone does not establish exploitation. Missing patch evidence does not prove that no patch exists. Filters below change the event list only.

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
