var-201708-1311
Vulnerability from variot
While parsing an IPAddressFamily extension in an X.509 certificate, it is possible to do a one-byte overread. This would result in an incorrect text display of the certificate. This bug has been present since 2006 and is present in all versions of OpenSSL before 1.0.2m and 1.1.0g. OpenSSL is prone to a security-bypass vulnerability. Successfully exploiting this issue will allow attackers to bypass security restrictions and perform unauthorized actions; this may aid in launching further attacks. Summary:

Gentoo Linux Security Advisory GLSA 201712-03
https://security.gentoo.org/
Severity: Normal Title: OpenSSL: Multiple vulnerabilities Date: December 14, 2017 Bugs: #629290, #636264, #640172 ID: 201712-03
Synopsis
Multiple vulnerabilities have been found in OpenSSL, the worst of which may lead to a Denial of Service condition.
Affected packages
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1 dev-libs/openssl < 1.0.2n >= 1.0.2n
Description
Multiple vulnerabilities have been discovered in OpenSSL. Please review the referenced CVE identifiers for details.
Impact
A remote attacker could cause a Denial of Service condition, recover a private key in unlikely circumstances, circumvent security restrictions to perform unauthorized actions, or gain access to sensitive information.
Workaround
There are no known workarounds at this time.
Resolution
All OpenSSL users should upgrade to the latest version:
# emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=dev-libs/openssl-1.0.2n"
