mm: swap: fix race between free_swap_and_cache() and swapoff()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mm: swap: fix race between free_swap_and_cache() and swapoff()
There was previously a theoretical window where swapoff() could run and
teardown a swap_info_struct while a call to free_swap_and_cache() was
running in another thread. This could cause, amongst other bad
possibilities, swap_page_trans_huge_swapped() (called by
free_swap_and_cache()) to access the freed memory for swap_map.
This is a theoretical problem and I haven't been able to provoke it from a
test case. But there has been agreement based on code review that this is
possible (see link below).
Fix it by using get_swap_device()/put_swap_device(), which will stall
swapoff(). There was an extra check in _swap_info_get() to confirm that
the swap entry was not free. This isn't present in get_swap_device()
because it doesn't make sense in general due to the race between getting
the reference and swapoff. So I've added an equivalent check directly in
free_swap_and_cache().
Details of how to provoke one possible issue (thanks to David Hildenbrand
for deriving this):
--8<-----
__swap_entry_free() might be the last user and result in
"count == SWAP_HAS_CACHE".
swapoff->try_to_unuse() will stop as soon as soon as si->inuse_pages==0.
So the question is: could someone reclaim the folio and turn
si->inuse_pages==0, before we completed swap_page_trans_huge_swapped().
Imagine the following: 2 MiB folio in the swapcache. Only 2 subpages are
still references by swap entries.
Process 1 still references subpage 0 via swap entry.
Process 2 still references subpage 1 via swap entry.
Process 1 quits. Calls free_swap_and_cache().
-> count == SWAP_HAS_CACHE
[then, preempted in the hypervisor etc.]
Process 2 quits. Calls free_swap_and_cache().
-> count == SWAP_HAS_CACHE
Process 2 goes ahead, passes swap_page_trans_huge_swapped(), and calls
__try_to_reclaim_swap().
__try_to_reclaim_swap()->folio_free_swap()->delete_from_swap_cache()->
put_swap_folio()->free_swap_slot()->swapcache_free_entries()->
swap_entry_free()->swap_range_free()->
...
WRITE_ONCE(si->inuse_pages, si->inuse_pages - nr_entries);
What stops swapoff to succeed after process 2 reclaimed the swap cache
but before process1 finished its call to swap_page_trans_huge_swapped()?
en
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

mm: swap: fix race between free_swap_and_cache() and swapoff()

There was previously a theoretical window where swapoff() could run and
teardown a swap_info_struct while a call to free_swap_and_cache() was
running in another thread. This could cause, amongst other bad
possibilities, swap_page_trans_huge_swapped() (called by
free_swap_and_cache()) to access the freed memory for swap_map.

So I've added an equivalent check directly in
free_swap_and_cache().

Details of how to provoke one possible issue (thanks to David Hildenbrand
for deriving this):

--8<-----

__swap_entry_free() might be the last user and result in
"count == SWAP_HAS_CACHE".

swapoff->try_to_unuse() will stop as soon as soon as si->inuse_pages==0.

So the question is: could someone reclaim the folio and turn
si->inuse_pages==0, before we completed swap_page_trans_huge_swapped().

Imagine the following: 2 MiB folio in the swapcache. No remote or adjacent-network consumer reaches `free_swap_and_cache()`.
AC:H - The attacker controls only their half of the race; the other half is `swapoff()`, gated by `capable(CAP_SYS_ADMIN)` in the *initial* user namespace (mm/swapfile.c:2411, `capable()` not `ns_capable()`), so it cannot be induced from a user namespace and must be performed by an administrator or system script. Landing the hit additionally requires being preempted inside a sub-microsecond window between `__swap_entry_free()` and `swap_page_trans_huge_swapped()` while a second process reclaims the last swapcache reference — the author explicitly could not provoke it from a test case.
PR:L - The attacker-controlled side needs nothing beyond an ordinary unprivileged local account: any process can spin `munmap`/`madvise`/tmpfs-punch loops over swapped-out anonymous pages to drive `free_swap_and_cache()` at high rate. No capability, namespace, or filesystem privilege is required for that half.
UI:N - No victim is tricked into any action; the required `swapoff()` is routine system activity (systemd swap-unit deactivation, hibernate scripts, Android zram reconfiguration) that occurs without human participation, and that environmental dependency is already accounted for in AC:H rather than counted twice as UI:R.
S:U - The corruption is confined to kernel data structures within the kernel's own security authority — standard local kernel memory corruption / privilege escalation. No VM, hypervisor, or IOMMU boundary is crossed.
C:H - Use-after-free reads of the vfree'd `swap_map`, the kvfree'd `cluster_info`, and a freed `struct address_space` (XArray walk in `filemap_get_folio()`) can disclose reallocated kernel memory. Additionally, `swapoff`+`swapon` reuses the `swap_info_struct` slot, so the stale `free_swap_and_cache()` corrupts the *new* device's counts and prematurely frees slots still referenced by other processes, handing a victim's swapped-out anonymous data to the attacker on swap-in.
I:H - `lock_cluster()` performs `spin_lock(&ci->lock)` on the kvfree'd `cluster_info` — for typical swap sizes a kmalloc-slab object — giving a sprayable use-after-free *write* primitive, and `__try_to_reclaim_swap()` manipulates folio locks/refcounts derived from a freed `address_space`. Combined with silent swap-map count corruption after `swapon` reuse, this is exploitable for control-flow hijack and cross-process data modification.
A:H - The most likely immediate outcome is a kernel oops — dereferencing a NULLed `si->swap_map`, faulting in the unmapped vfree'd vmalloc range, a NULL `swapper_spaces[type]`, or tripping `VM_BUG_ON(count != SWAP_HAS_CACHE)` in `__swap_entry_free_locked()`. Any of these panics the kernel."

Title
media: usbtv: Remove useless locks in usbtv_video_free()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
media: usbtv: Remove useless locks in usbtv_video_free()
Remove locks calls in usbtv_video_free() because
are useless and may led to a deadlock as reported here:
https://syzkaller.appspot.com/x/bisect.txt?x=166dc872180000
Also remove usbtv_stop() call since it will be called when
unregistering the device.
Before 'c838530d230b' this issue would only be noticed if you
disconnect while streaming and now it is noticeable even when
disconnecting while not streaming.

Bluetooth: Fix use-after-free bugs caused by sco_sock_timeout
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
Bluetooth: Fix use-after-free bugs caused by sco_sock_timeout
When the sco connection is established and then, the sco socket
is releasing, timeout_work will be scheduled to judge whether
the sco disconnection is timeout. The sock will be deallocated
later, but it is dereferenced again in sco_sock_timeout. As a
result, the use-after-free bugs will happen. The root cause is
shown below:
Cleanup Thread | Worker Thread
sco_sock_release |
sco_sock_close |
__sco_sock_close |
sco_sock_set_timer |
schedule_delayed_work |
sco_sock_kill | (wait a time)
sock_put(sk) //FREE | sco_sock_timeout
| sock_hold(sk) //USE
The KASAN report triggered by POC is shown below:

drm/panfrost: Fix the error path in panfrost_mmu_map_fault_addr()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/panfrost: Fix the error path in panfrost_mmu_map_fault_addr()
Subject: [PATCH] drm/panfrost: Fix the error path in
panfrost_mmu_map_fault_addr()
If some the pages or sgt allocation failed, we shouldn't release the
pages ref we got earlier, otherwise we will end up with unbalanced
get/put_pages() calls. We should instead leave everything in place
and let the BO release function deal with extra cleanup when the object
is destroyed, or let the fault handler try again next time it's called.

No network or adjacent-network exposure exists.
AC:L - The error path requires an allocation failure, and the BO's shmem mapping is deliberately created with __GFP_RETRY_MAYFAIL|GFP_HIGHUSER so it returns -ENOMEM instead of OOM-killing; the attacker fully controls memory pressure and GPU IOVA exhaustion (failing dma_map_sgtable) and can re-trigger the fault in a loop with no race to win.
PR:L - Both required ioctls are DRM_RENDER_ALLOW, so any local unprivileged user with render-node access — the default for logged-in desktop users, and for every application on Android/ChromeOS devices using Mali GPUs — can reach the code with no capabilities.
UI:N - The attacker performs every step itself: creating the heap BO, submitting the job that faults, and generating the memory pressure. No victim action is involved.
S:U - The buggy driver and the corrupted memory both reside within the kernel's security authority; this is standard kernel memory corruption rather than a VM or hypervisor boundary escape.
C:H - Pages that remain mapped read/write in the GPU address space lose their driver reference and are made evictable, so once reclaimed and reused the attacker's GPU shaders can read arbitrary recycled kernel and userspace memory through the stale mapping.
I:H - The stale GPU mappings carry IOMMU_WRITE, giving the attacker an arbitrary write primitive into reclaimed memory, and the leaked/overwritten sg tables plus re-mapping over live PTEs further corrupt the GPU page tables and page refcounts.
A:H - The unbalanced put_pages corrupts page reference counts and permanently leaks sg tables and DMA/IOVA mappings, while the failed fault disables the GPU address space and kills all jobs on it; repeated triggering yields memory exhaustion and kernel oopses/panics.
AV:L - The flaw is reached purely through setsockopt(2)/getsockopt(2) on a locally created AF_BLUETOOTH/BTPROTO_HCI socket; no Bluetooth radio traffic, paired peer, or HCI adapter link participates in reaching the unvalidated copy.
AC:L - Triggering is fully deterministic — issue setsockopt(fd, SOL_HCI, HCI_DATA_DIR, buf, optlen<4) or setsockopt(fd, SOL_BLUETOOTH, BT_SNDMTU, buf, optlen<2); there is no race, no timing window, and the attacker can groom the kmalloc-8/16 slab to choose what sits past the allocation.
PR:L - bt_sock_create() and hci_sock_create() contain no capability check and the socket defaults to HCI_CHANNEL_RAW, so any unprivileged local user reaches hci_sock_setsockopt_old() with no bind and no caps; CAP_NET_RAW only narrows the filter masks, and HCI_CHANNEL_CONTROL binding for the BT_SNDMTU path is explicitly allowed for untrusted users.
UI:N - The attacker performs every step on its own socket — create, bind, setsockopt, getsockopt; no victim action, mount, or file open is required.
S:U - The out-of-bounds access stays within kernel slab memory under the same security authority, crossing no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary.
C:H - This is an out-of-bounds read of kernel heap memory past the end of the exact-size kernel_optval allocation, and the disclosed bytes flow straight back to userspace — hci_sock_getsockopt() put_user()s hci_pi(sk)->mtu verbatim, yielding a repeatable 16-bit kernel-heap oracle (plus a bit-oracle via HCI_DATA_DIR/HCI_TIME_STAMP) usable with heap grooming to leak kernel data and defeat KASLR.
I:N - Nothing is written out of bounds; the only state changed is the attacker's own socket cmsg_mask, filter, and mtu, all of which are settable through the normal API anyway, so no data outside the attacker's authority is modified.
A:H - The slab out-of-bounds read raises a KASAN BUG that panics outright under the widely deployed panic_on_warn configuration, and the read can fault when it crosses into a KFENCE guard page or unmapped page, producing a kernel oops that an unprivileged local user can repeat at will."

Title
usb: typec: tcpm: Check for port partner validity before consuming it
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
usb: typec: tcpm: Check for port partner validity before consuming it
typec_register_partner() does not guarantee partner registration
to always succeed. In the event of failure, port->partner is set
to the error value or NULL. Given that port->partner validity is
not checked, this results in the following crash:
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address xx
pc : run_state_machine+0x1bc8/0x1c08
lr : run_state_machine+0x1b90/0x1c08
..
Call trace:

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.
