Sie beruht darauf, dass bei Verwendung des Diffie-Hellman (DH) Schlüsselaustauschalgorithmus bei der Erzeugung des Premaster-Secrets die Ergebnisse des Schlüsselaustauschs gehasht und hierbei zunächst die führenden Nullen entfernt werden. Ein Angreifer in einer Man-in-the-Middle Position kann dieses messen. Außerdem muss der Server so konfiguriert sein, dass er statische TLS-DH-Verschlüsselungssuiten verwendet oder der Server muss kurzlebige Verschlüsselungssuiten (TLS-DHE) verwenden und die Schlüssel für mehrere Verbindungen wiederverwenden. Durch Manipulation und mehrfaches Versenden der abgefangenen Daten kann der Angreifer dann möglicherweise den Schlüssel erlangen.

In der Spezifikation von TLS 1.2 oder früher existiert eine Schwachstelle. Sie beruht darauf, dass bei Verwendung des Diffie-Hellman (DH) Schlüsselaustauschalgorithmus bei der Erzeugung des Premaster-Secrets die Ergebnisse des Schlüsselaustauschs gehasht und hierbei zunächst die führenden Nullen entfernt werden. Ein Angreifer in einer Man-in-the-Middle Position kann dieses messen. Außerdem muss der Server so konfiguriert sein, dass er statische TLS-DH-Verschlüsselungssuiten verwendet oder der Server muss kurzlebige Verschlüsselungssuiten (TLS-DHE) verwenden und die Schlüssel für mehrere Verbindungen wiederverwenden. Durch Manipulation und mehrfaches Versenden der abgefangenen Daten kann der Angreifer dann möglicherweise den Schlüssel erlangen.
