In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

wifi: iwlwifi: mvm: fix driver-set TX rates on old devices

On old devices such as 7265D, rates are still encoded in version 1
format, which doesn't use the CCK/OFDM rate index (0-3/0-7) but
rather their PLCP value (e.g. 10 for 1 Mbps CCK rate.)

While introducing v3 rates, I changed the driver from internally
handling v1 rates and converting to v2, to internally handling v3
and converting to v1 or v2 according to the firmware. I accordingly
changed the code in iwl_mvm_mac80211_idx_to_hwrate() to no longer
have different values for different APIs. This was correct.

However, I later reverted this part of the change, because it was
reported that I had broken beacon rates, causing a FW assert/crash.
This caused TX_CMD rates to be set incorrectly, potentially causing
a warning when reported back from the device as having been used.

Fix this (hopefully correctly now) by handling beacon rates in the
TX_CMD that's embedded in the beacon template command separately.
Restore iwl_mvm_mac80211_idx_to_hwrate() to return only the rate
index, not PLCP value, fixing the real TX_CMD.
en
AV:A - The vulnerable TX rate path is reached when the iwlwifi driver transmits WiFi management frames (probe responses, auth/assoc) or beacon templates in response to over-the-air activity. A remote attacker on the same WiFi/BSS segment can trigger this by sending probe requests to a victim AP or operating a rogue AP that causes victim clients to exchange management frames.
AC:L - Once the victim uses affected legacy Intel hardware (e.g. 7265D with v1 rate firmware), the attacker can reliably trigger the bug by sending standard 802.11 management frames; no special timing, memory layout, or race conditions beyond normal WiFi traffic are required.
PR:N - An adjacent attacker needs no privileges on the victim system. Exploitation is triggered purely by WiFi frames received by the victim's wireless interface; no local account, CAP_NET_ADMIN, or ioctl/netlink access on the victim is required.
UI:N - From the attacker's perspective, no action by the victim user is needed beyond the WiFi interface being active (e.g., an AP broadcasting beacons or a client performing normal association). Probe responses and association handshakes are sent automatically by the driver.
S:U - The vulnerability is confined to the iwlwifi kernel driver and its firmware interaction on the victim host. Impact does not cross a security boundary such as VM escape, sandbox escape, or IOMMU bypass.
C:H - The double PLCP conversion passes PLCP values (e.g. 55, 110 for CCK rates) as array indices to iwl_fw_rate_idx_to_plcp(), which performs an unchecked lookup into a ~17-element table, causing out-of-bounds kernel memory reads whose results are embedded into TX commands.
I:N - The bug corrupts rate-encoding metadata sent to firmware but does not provide an arbitrary kernel write, use-after-free, or demonstrated control-flow hijack primitive. Impact is malformed TX parameters and firmware misbehavior, not integrity of arbitrary kernel or user data.
A:H - The fix commit and prior bug report document firmware assert/crash from incorrect beacon/TX_CMD rates on old devices, and the RX path emits WARN_ON for invalid rate values reported back from firmware. This can disable WiFi connectivity and potentially cause repeated firmware restart loops.
AV:N - Unreadable skbs arise on the receive side of device-memory TCP, and a remote peer can send packets that traverse netfilter hooks into u32, NFLOG, NFQUEUE, or IPv6 conntrack defragmentation. No local access is required in a network-exposed devmem TCP deployment.
AC:L - Once devmem/header-split RX and an affected netfilter path are active, a sufficiently long payload or crafted IPv6 extension/fragment layout reliably reaches unreadable fragments. There is no race or condition the attacker must win, and triggering packets can be sent repeatedly.
PR:N - The triggering packets are processed before application authentication, so the remote peer needs no account or kernel capability. CAP_NET_ADMIN is required for the operator's device and netfilter configuration, not for the attacker sending packets.
UI:N - Packet reception and netfilter processing occur automatically without any victim action after the service and policy are configured.
S:U - The resulting failure affects the same host kernel and does not cross a VM, IOMMU, or other distinct security authority boundary.
C:N - skb_copy_bits() rejects the unreadable fragments before accessing their contents, while the NFQUEUE flag-loss path reaches an invalid page mapping. No attacker-accessible information-disclosure primitive was identified.
I:N - The vulnerability causes BUG or invalid-access paths but provides no out-of-bounds write, use-after-free, type confusion, or attacker-controlled data modification.
A:H - The u32, NFLOG, and IPv6 paths execute BUG(), and the NFQUEUE path can dereference an invalid page during netlink recvmsg. These can produce a kernel oops or panic and can be triggered repeatedly.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

hwrng: virtio: clamp device-reported used.len at copy_data()

random_recv_done() stores the device-reported used.len directly into
vi->data_avail. copy_data() then indexes vi->data[] using
vi->data_idx (advanced by previous copy_data() calls) and issues a
memcpy() without re-validating either value against the posted
buffer size sizeof(vi->data) (SMP_CACHE_BYTES bytes, typically 32
or 64).

A malicious or buggy virtio-rng backend can set used.len beyond
sizeof(vi->data), steering the memcpy() past the end of the inline
array into adjacent kmalloc-1k slab bytes. hwrng_fillfn() mixes
those bytes into the guest RNG, and guest root can also observe
them directly via /dev/hwrng.

Concrete impact is inside the guest:

- Memory-safety / hardening: any virtio-rng backend that
over-reports used.len causes the driver to read past vi->data
into unrelated slab contents. hwrng_fillfn() is a kernel thread
that runs as soon as the device is probed; no guest userspace
interaction is required to first-trigger the OOB.

- Cross-boundary leak (confidential-compute threat model): a
malicious hypervisor cooperating with a malicious or compromised
guest root userspace can use /dev/hwrng as a leak channel for
guest-kernel heap data. The host sets a large used.len, guest
root reads /dev/hwrng, and the returned bytes contain guest
kernel slab contents that were adjacent to vi->data. In
practice, confidential-compute guests (SEV-SNP, TDX) usually
disable virtio-rng entirely, so this path is narrow, but the
fix is still worth carrying because the underlying
memory-safety bug contaminates the guest RNG on any host.

KASAN confirms the OOB on a 7.1-rc4 guest whose virtio-rng backend
has been patched to report used.len = 0x10000:

BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in virtio_read+0x394/0x5d0
Read of size 64 at addr ffff88800ae0ba20 by task hwrng/52
Call Trace:
__asan_memcpy+0x23/0x60
virtio_read+0x394/0x5d0
hwrng_fillfn+0xb2/0x470
kthread+0x2cc/0x3a0
Allocated by task 1:
probe_common+0xa5/0x660
virtio_dev_probe+0x549/0xbc0
The buggy address belongs to the object at ffff88800ae0b800
which belongs to the cache kmalloc-1k of size 1024
The buggy address is located 0 bytes to the right of
allocated 544-byte region [ffff88800ae0b800, ffff88800ae0ba20)

Same class of bug as commit c04db81cd028 ("net/9p: Fix buffer
overflow in USB transport layer"), which hardened
usb9pfs_rx_complete() against unchecked device-reported length in
the USB 9p transport.

With the clamp at point of use and array_index_nospec() in place,
the same harness boots cleanly: copy_data() returns zero for the
bogus report, the device-supplied bytes after data_idx are
discarded, and the driver issues a fresh request."

The bit
cannot represent two concurrent callbacks: when a second interrupt
re-queues an instance whose callback is still running, both run at once,
the first to finish clears the bit, and the close-path drain then frees
the instance (and its callback_data) while the other callback is still
live - a use-after-free reachable by any user able to open
/dev/snd/timer, both via a user timer instance and via a sequencer queue
timer bound to the utimer.

snd_timer_interrupt() sets IFLG_CALLBACK before dropping timer->lock, so
a concurrent interrupt already observes it under the lock. Skip
re-queuing an instance (and its slaves) to the ack/sack list while its
callback is in flight; the accumulated pticks are delivered on the next
tick, so no event is lost.
AV:L - The bug is reached purely through local syscalls: opening /dev/snd/timer, the SNDRV_TIMER_IOCTL_CREATE ioctl to obtain a utimer fd, and concurrent SNDRV_TIMER_IOCTL_TRIGGER ioctls on that fd. No network or physical access is involved.
AC:L - The attacker owns every side of the race: two of its own threads issue the TRIGGER ioctls that run snd_timer_interrupt() concurrently, while a third closes the timer instance, and the ioctl can be spammed in a tight loop until the window is hit. Nothing depends on conditions outside attacker control.
PR:L - Only the ability to open /dev/snd/timer is needed, which any member of the audio group, any logged-in desktop session (granted via logind ACLs), or any Android media/app process has. No capabilities, no root, and the commit explicitly states it is reachable by "any user able to open /dev/snd/timer".
UI:N - The attacking process creates the utimer, triggers it from its own threads, and closes the instance entirely on its own. No victim action, no filesystem mount, and no privileged helper participation is required.
S:U - The use-after-free corrupts kernel slab memory in the same security authority as the attacked kernel; there is no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary crossed by the freed snd_timer_instance or its callback_data.
C:H - The freed snd_timer_instance and its callback_data (snd_timer_user with its event ring buffer, or snd_seq_queue) are re-read by the still-running callback after being reallocated, so an attacker who heap-sprays the slot can turn the dangling read/queue-append into disclosure of arbitrary reallocated kernel memory back through the timer read() interface.
I:H - The live callback (snd_timer_user_tinterrupt/ccallback or the sequencer queue tick handler) keeps writing into the freed object - event queue indices, pointers, and spinlock state - giving a controlled write into attacker-groomed slab contents, a classic UAF primitive leveragable for control-flow hijack and privilege escalation.
A:H - Even without successful grooming, the concurrent callback touches freed memory and manipulates list heads of a destroyed instance, producing list corruption, KASAN splats, and kernel oops or panic; the ioctl can be re-run repeatedly to crash the machine at will."

The receiving
socket sees such a message as coming from node id 1, indistinguishable
from a legitimate local client, breaking the isolation that network
namespaces are expected to provide.

QRTR is a transport to global hardware endpoints (the modem and other
remote processors) and has no per-namespace semantics; its in-kernel
name service already creates its socket in init_net only. Confine the
socket family to the initial network namespace, as other
non-namespace-aware socket families do (see llc_ui_create() and the
ieee802154 socket code)."

No race, no memory-layout dependency, no victim state required.
PR:L - Any unprivileged local user can create the required network namespace via unshare(CLONE_NEWUSER|CLONE_NEWNET), and a containerized process is already in one; the CAP_NET_ADMIN check at qrtr_port_assign() only gates low/control ports and is not needed for this attack.
UI:N - The attacker performs all steps itself; no action by any other user or administrator is required to trigger the cross-namespace delivery.
S:C - The flaw defeats the network-namespace confinement boundary itself: a process sandboxed in its own netns reaches the init_net global QRTR control plane, the in-kernel name service, and host-owned sockets, impacting resources under a different security authority than the attacker's container.
C:H - By spoofing QRTR_TYPE_NEW_SERVER to the name service, a confined attacker registers itself as a well-known service so legitimate host clients direct their QMI traffic to it, and it can address modem/remote-processor endpoints directly, exposing sensitive telephony data it was isolated from.
I:H - The attacker can inject arbitrary control-plane messages (NEW_SERVER, DEL_SERVER, BYE, DEL_CLIENT) that the receiver cannot distinguish from a legitimate node-1 client, corrupting the global service registry and allowing forged replies to host clients and commands to the modem.
A:H - A single spoofed QRTR_TYPE_BYE makes ctrl_cmd_bye() delete every server registered on the local node and broadcast their removal, and the QRTR_NS_MAX_SERVERS/MAX_LOOKUPS limits can be exhausted, causing complete and repeatable loss of QRTR/modem IPC service for the whole system.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

wifi: ath9k: hif_usb: don't dereference hif_dev after re-arming firmware request

ath9k_hif_request_firmware() re-arms an asynchronous firmware load via
request_firmware_nowait(), passing hif_dev as the completion context, and
then still dereferences hif_dev:

dev_info(&hif_dev->udev->dev, "ath9k_htc: Firmware %s requested
",
 hif_dev->fw_name);

The re-armed callback ath9k_hif_usb_firmware_cb() runs on the "events"
workqueue and, when the firmware is missing, walks the retry chain into
ath9k_hif_usb_firmware_fail() -> complete_all(&hif_dev->fw_done). That
releases the wait_for_completion(&hif_dev->fw_done) in a concurrent
ath9k_hif_usb_disconnect(), which then kfree()s hif_dev. The trailing
dev_info() in the frame that re-armed the request can therefore read freed
memory (hif_dev->udev, the first field of struct hif_device_usb):

BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in ath9k_hif_request_firmware
Read of size 8 ... by task kworker/...
ath9k_hif_request_firmware
ath9k_hif_usb_firmware_cb drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/hif_usb.c:1247
request_firmware_work_func
Allocated by ...:
ath9k_hif_usb_probe drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/hif_usb.c
Freed by ...:
ath9k_hif_usb_disconnect -> kfree drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/hif_usb.c

The fw_done barrier only makes disconnect wait for the firmware chain to
*terminate*; it does not protect the outer ath9k_hif_request_firmware()
frame that re-armed the request and keeps touching hif_dev afterwards.

Drop the post-request dev_info(): it is the only use of hif_dev after the
async request is armed, and it is purely informational (the dev_err() on the
failure path runs only when request_firmware_nowait() did not arm a callback,
so hif_dev is still alive there).

This was first reported by syzbot as a single, non-reproduced crash that was
later auto-obsoleted, and was independently rediscovered by the reFuzz fuzzer,
which produced a C reproducer (USB-gadget connect/disconnect of an ath9k_htc
device whose firmware download fails). The vulnerable code is unchanged and
still present in v7.1-rc6, where the slab-use-after-free reproduces under KASAN
once the (sub-microsecond) race window is widened.
AV:L - The bug is only reachable via the dm-mod.create kernel boot parameter processed in late_initcall dm_init_init() calling dm_early_create(); there is no network, adjacent, ioctl, netlink, or post-boot userspace path into this __init-only device-mapper setup code.
AC:L - Once dm_swap_table() installs the table, an attacker controlling dm-mod.create can deterministically force dm_resume() to fail (e.g., paired snapshot-origin preresume handover rejection or verity/crypt preresume errors) without races or attacker-uncontrolled memory layout.
PR:L - dm_early_create() performs no capability or credential checks on its error path; unlike runtime DM_DEV_CREATE ioctls that require CAP_SYS_ADMIN, triggering the post-swap dm_resume failure only needs crafting dm-mod.create table parameters at boot, not real-root dm-ioctl privileges unobtainable via user namespaces.
UI:N - The vulnerable teardown runs automatically during late_initcall once dm-mod.create is present and dm_resume fails; no victim must open files, mount filesystems, or take any interactive action beyond rebooting with the crafted boot configuration.
S:U - The use-after-free and double-free corrupt kernel heap memory during device-mapper early boot setup within the kernel trust boundary; it does not cross VM, container, or IOMMU isolation boundaries into another security authority.
C:H - dm_table_destroy() frees a dm_table still referenced through md->map after dm_swap_table(), creating a kernel heap use-after-free that can expose freed object contents and adjacent kernel memory to subsequent allocations and readers.
I:H - UAF on the live dm_table enables heap grooming and corrupts destructor paths invoked during erroneous teardown (dm_table_destroy target dtr hooks, then dm_destroy __unbind), providing memory corruption primitives developable into arbitrary kernel writes or control-flow hijack.
A:H - Freeing the active table then calling dm_destroy()/__unbind() on the same object causes double-free/use-after-free during boot cleanup, readily producing kernel panics, oopses, or unbootable systems on dm-mod.create rootfs platforms (Android/ChromeOS/embedded)."
