Summary
Cisco 6800, 7800, 8800, and 9800 Series Phones with Multiplatform Firmware Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerabilities

Notes

Summary
Multiple vulnerabilities in the web UI of Cisco Desk Phone 9800 Series, Cisco IP Phone 6800, 7800, and 8800 Series, and Cisco Video Phone 8875 with Cisco Multiplatform Firmware could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to conduct stored cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks against users. These vulnerabilities exist because the web UI of an affected device does not properly validate user-supplied input. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by injecting malicious code into specific pages of the interface. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary script code in the context of the affected interface or access sensitive, browser-based information. Note: To exploit these vulnerabilities, Web Access must be enabled on the phone and the attacker must have Admin credentials on the device. Web Access is disabled by default. Cisco has released software updates that address these vulnerabilities. There are no workarounds that address these vulnerabilities.
Vulnerable Products
At the time of publication, these vulnerabilities affected the following Cisco products if they were running a vulnerable release of Cisco Multiplatform Firmware and had Web Access enabled: Desk Phone 9800 Series with Multiplatform Firmware IP Phone 6800 Series with Multiplatform Firmware IP Phone 7800 Series with Multiplatform Firmware IP Phone 8800 Series with Multiplatform Firmware Video Phone 8875 with Multiplatform Firmware For information about which Cisco software releases were vulnerable at the time of publication, see the Fixed Software ["#fs"] section of this advisory. See the Details section in the bug ID(s) at the top of this advisory for the most complete and current information.
Products Confirmed Not Vulnerable
Only products listed in the Vulnerable Products ["#vp"] section of this advisory are known to be affected by these vulnerabilities. Cisco has confirmed that these vulnerabilities do not affect the following Cisco products: ATA 191 Analog Telephone Adapters ATA 191 and 192 Multiplatform Analog Telephone Adapters IP DECT 6800 Series with Multiplatform Firmware Unified IP Phone 6901 Unified SIP Phone 3905 Webex Room Phones Webex Share Wireless IP Phone 8821 Wireless Phone 840 and 860
Workarounds
There are no workarounds that address these vulnerabilities.
Fixed Software
When considering software upgrades ["https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/resources/security_vulnerability_policy.html#fixes"], customers are advised to regularly consult the advisories for Cisco products, which are available from the Cisco Security Advisories page ["https://www.cisco.com/go/psirt"], to determine exposure and a complete upgrade solution. In all cases, customers should ensure that the devices to be upgraded contain sufficient memory and confirm that current hardware and software configurations will continue to be supported properly by the new release. If the information is not clear, customers are advised to contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) or their contracted maintenance providers. Fixed Releases At the time of publication, the release information in the following tables was accurate. See the Details section in the bug IDs at the top of this advisory for the most complete and current information. The left column lists Cisco software releases, and the right column indicates whether a release was affected by the vulnerabilities that are described in this advisory and which release included the fix for these vulnerabilities. Desk Phone 9800 Series Cisco Multiplatform Firmware Release First Fixed Release 3.1(1) 3.2(1) 3.1(1)SR1 3.2(1) IP Phone 6800, 7800, and 8800 Series Cisco Multiplatform Firmware Release First Fixed Release 12.0.5SR1 12.0.6 Video Phone 8875 Cisco Multiplatform Firmware Release First Fixed Release 2.3(1)SR1 and earlier Migrate to a fixed release. 3.2(1) Not vulnerable. Cisco IP Conference Phone 8831 with Multiplatform Firmware The Cisco IP Conference Phone 8831 with Multiplatform Firmware is past its date for End of Software Maintenance Releases. For this reason, Cisco has not released and will not release software updates to address the vulnerabilities that are described in this advisory. Customers are advised to refer to the end-of-life notice for this product: End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco IP Conference Phone 8831 for Multiplatform Phones and Accessories ["https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/collaboration-endpoints/ip-phone-8800-series-multiplatform-firmware/eos-eol-notice-c51-742916.html"] The Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) validates only the affected and fixed release information that is documented in this advisory.
Vulnerability Policy
To learn about Cisco security vulnerability disclosure policies and publications, see the Security Vulnerability Policy ["http://www.cisco.com/web/about/security/psirt/security_vulnerability_policy.html"]. This document also contains instructions for obtaining fixed software and receiving security vulnerability information from Cisco.
Exploitation and Public Announcements
The Cisco PSIRT is not aware of any public announcements or malicious use of the vulnerability that is described in this advisory.
