Summary
Cisco Evolved Programmable Network Manager and Cisco Prime Infrastructure Vulnerabilities
Notes
Summary
Multiple vulnerabilities in Cisco Evolved Programmable Network Manager (EPNM) and Cisco Prime Infrastructure could allow an attacker to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks, execute arbitrary commands, perform SQL injection attacks, or gain elevated privileges on an affected system.
Cisco has released software updates that address these vulnerabilities. There are no workarounds that address these vulnerabilities.
For more information about these vulnerabilities, see the Details ["#details"] section of this advisory.
Vulnerable Products
At the time of publication, these vulnerabilities affected the following Cisco products:
EPNM
Prime Infrastructure
For information about which Cisco software releases were vulnerable at the time of publication, see the Fixed Software ["#fs"] section of this advisory. See the Details section in the bug ID(s) at the top of this advisory for the most complete and current information.
Products Confirmed Not Vulnerable
Only products listed in the Vulnerable Products ["#vp"] section of this advisory are known to be affected by these vulnerabilities.
Details
The vulnerabilities are dependent on one another. Exploitation of one of the vulnerabilities is not required to exploit another vulnerability. In addition, a software release that is affected by one of the vulnerabilities may not be affected by the other vulnerabilities.
Details about the vulnerabilities are as follows:
Cisco Prime Infrastructure Command Execution Vulnerability
A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Prime Infrastructure could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system.
This vulnerability is due to improper processing of serialized Java objects by the affected application. An attacker with privileges sufficient to make application configuration changes could exploit this vulnerability by uploading a document containing malicious serialized Java objects to be processed by the affected application. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the application to execute arbitrary commands.
Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.
Bug ID(s): CSCwf81859 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwf81859"]
CVE ID: CVE-2023-20258
Security Impact Rating (SIR): Medium
CVSS Base Score: 6.5
CVSS Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N
Cisco EPNM and Cisco Prime Infrastructure SQL Injection Vulnerability
A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco EPNM and Cisco Prime Infrastructure could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to conduct SQL injection attacks on an affected system.
This vulnerability is due to improper validation of user-submitted parameters. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by authenticating to the application and sending malicious requests to an affected system. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to obtain and modify sensitive information that is stored in the underlying database.
Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.
Bug ID(s): CSCwf81862 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwf81862"], CSCwf83557 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwf83557"]
CVE ID: CVE-2023-20271
Security Impact Rating (SIR): Medium
CVSS Base Score: 6.5
CVSS Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N
Cisco EPNM and Cisco Prime Infrastructure Privilege Escalation Vulnerability
A vulnerability in the application CLI of Cisco EPNM and Cisco Prime Infrastructure could allow an authenticated, local attacker to gain elevated privileges.
This vulnerability is due to improper processing of command line arguments to application scripts. An attacker with privileges sufficient to log in with an interactive shell could exploit this vulnerability by issuing a command on the CLI with malicious options. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to gain the elevated privileges of the root user on the underlying operating system.
Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.
Bug ID(s): CSCwf81865 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwf81865"], CSCwf83560 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwf83560"]
CVE ID: CVE-2023-20260
Security Impact Rating (SIR): Medium
CVSS Base Score: 6.0
CVSS Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N
Cisco EPNM and Cisco Prime Infrastructure XSS Vulnerability
A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco EPNM and Cisco Prime Infrastructure could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to conduct XSS attacks.
This vulnerability is due to improper validation of user-supplied input to the web-based management interface. An attacker with privileges sufficient to access the web-based management interface could exploit this vulnerability by submitting malicious input that contains script or HTML content within requests that would be stored within the application interface. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to conduct XSS attacks against other users of the affected application.
Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.
Bug ID(s): CSCwf81870 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwf81870"], CSCwf83565 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwf83565"]
CVE ID: CVE-2023-20257
Security Impact Rating (SIR): Medium
CVSS Base Score: 4.8
CVSS Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Workarounds
There are no workarounds that address these vulnerabilities.
Fixed Software
When considering software upgrades ["https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/resources/security_vulnerability_policy.html#fixes"], customers are advised to regularly consult the advisories for Cisco products, which are available from the Cisco Security Advisories page ["https://www.cisco.com/go/psirt"], to determine exposure and a complete upgrade solution.
In all cases, customers should ensure that the devices to be upgraded contain sufficient memory and confirm that current hardware and software configurations will continue to be supported properly by the new release. If the information is not clear, customers are advised to contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) or their contracted maintenance providers.
Fixed Releases
At the time of publication, the release information in the following tables was accurate. See the Details section in the bug ID(s) at the top of this advisory for the most complete and current information.
The left column lists Cisco software releases, and the right column indicates whether a release was affected by the vulnerabilities that are described in this advisory and which release included the fix for these vulnerabilities.
Cisco EPNM Release First Fixed Release 7.0 and earlier Migrate to a fixed release. 7.1 7.1.1
Cisco Prime Infrastructure Release First Fixed Release 3.9 and earlier Migrate to a fixed release. 3.10 3.10.4 Update 2
The Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) validates only the affected and fixed release information that is documented in this advisory.
Vulnerability Policy
To learn about Cisco security vulnerability disclosure policies and publications, see the Security Vulnerability Policy ["http://www.cisco.com/web/about/security/psirt/security_vulnerability_policy.html"]. This document also contains instructions for obtaining fixed software and receiving security vulnerability information from Cisco.
Exploitation and Public Announcements
The Cisco PSIRT is not aware of any public announcements or malicious use of the vulnerabilities that are described in this advisory.
