Title
Oh My Zsh: Arbitrary Code Execution in oh-my-zsh dotenv plugin via malicious .env files
Summary
Oh My Zsh is a community-driven framework for managing Zsh configuration. Prior to 2026-05-28, the dotenv plugin in plugins/dotenv/dotenv.plugin.zsh passes ZSH_DOTENV_FILE to source after a directory change into a folder containing a .env file, allowing syntactically valid shell commands in the file to execute with the current account's privileges, including without a prompt when ZSH_DOTENV_PROMPT=false or after the default prompt accepts an empty Enter response. This issue is fixed in versions released after 2026-05-28.

Title
Angular: Remote Code Execution via JSDoc Hover Command Injection in VS Code Angular Language Service Extension
Summary
The Angular Language Service VS Code Extension provides a rich editing experience for Angular templates. the client-side Angular Language Service VS Code extension configures the tooltip Markdown renderer with the isTrusted: true option (located in client/src/client.ts). This setting instructs VS Code to trust all rendered content it receives, which enables active elements such as command: URIs. However, the background Angular Language Server process fails to escape or sanitize brackets, raw links, and control characters from JSDoc strings before forwarding the hover Markdown content (located in server/src/handlers/hover.ts and server/src/text_render.ts). An attacker can leverage this behavior by crafting a project TypeScript or JavaScript file (or a third-party npm package dependency) containing a malicious JSDoc tooltip with an embedded active command link. When a developer hovers over the target symbol to render the tooltip and clicks the malicious link, the IDE executes the command sequence directly on the developer's host machine. Prior to 21.2.4, This vulnerability is fixed in 21.2.4.

When a developer hovers over the target symbol to render the tooltip and clicks the malicious link, the IDE executes the command sequence directly on the developer\u0027s host machine. Title
Mermaid allows CSS injection applying to sibling elements of the diagram
Summary
Mermaid is a JavaScript tool that uses Markdown-inspired text to create and modify diagrams and charts. Prior to 10.9.8 and 11.16.1, Mermaid is vulnerable to CSS injection via sibling combinator selectors generated from diagram-supplied class or id names. An attacker who can supply diagram text can inject arbitrary CSS into the rendered page, potentially altering the appearance or behavior of unrelated page elements. This issue is fixed in versions 10.9.8 and 11.16.1.

Title
Apache Hive: SQL Injection vulnerability in HiveMetaStore partition-name direct-SQL paths
Summary
SQL injection in Hive Metastore direct SQL partition-name resolution in Apache Hive before 4.2.1 on all platforms allows authenticated users with access to Hive Metastore APIs to read, modify, or affect unintended partition metadata (including statistics updates, truncation targets, and file-metadata cache operations) via crafted partition names in metastore RPC requests when direct SQL is enabled (the default). Users are recommended to upgrade to version 4.2.1, which fixes this issue. Details about the issue: Several Hive Metastore RPCs resolve partitions by full partition name (PART_NAME) through direct-SQL helpers. In those paths, client-supplied partition names are embedded into SQL using string concatenation (DirectSqlUpdatePart.quoteString() → '...') instead of bind parameters. A partition name containing a single quote (and crafted SQL) can alter the generated WHERE clause so that lookups intended for one partition match additional rows. That can affect reads, stats updates, truncate targets, metadata-cache targets, and related operations when metastore.try.direct.sql is enabled (default: true). An authenticated or network-trusted caller with the ability to invoke Hive Metastore partition-name APIs against a target table (directly or via Hive/other clients), when direct SQL is enabled can perform this attack. Also, the impact is mainly within table & partition targeting (read/update/truncate/drop/cache the wrong partitions in a table they can reference), not arbitrary cross-database access via this bug alone.

Title
Markdown Preview Enhanced Arbitrary Code Execution via Bitfield interpretJS()
Summary
Markdown Preview Enhanced before 0.8.28 parses Bitfield fenced code blocks with interpretJS(), which evaluates the block content as code via vm.runInNewContext(), allowing arbitrary code execution. A crafted markdown document containing a malicious bitfield code block executes attacker-controlled code on the server side when the document is rendered or exported. Fixed in 0.8.28 by parsing bitfield register definitions with JSON5.parse(), since they are purely data.

Title
Angular: Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities in Angular Language Service VS Code Extension
Summary
The Angular Language Service VS Code Extension provides a rich editing experience for Angular templates. Prior to 21.2.4, the client-side Angular Language Service VS Code extension reads the custom TypeScript SDK paths typescript.tsdk and js/ts.tsdk.path directly from workspace configurations (.vscode/settings.json) without verifying VS Code Workspace Trust state or asking for user consent (located in client/src/client.ts). The client-side extension then passes the parsed settings path as a command-line argument (--tsdk) to the background Node.js language server process. During server initialization, the background language server resolves and dynamically imports (via standard Node.js require()) the module library tsserverlibrary.js relative to the workspace-specified custom directory path. An attacker can exploit this behavior by committing a repository containing a local malicious tsserverlibrary.js script inside a custom folder, and a crafted .vscode/settings.json file pointing to that folder. When a developer opens the repository folder in VS Code, the extension automatically attempts to initialize and load the server, which dynamically resolves, loads, and executes the malicious script silently in the background. This vulnerability is fixed in 21.2.4.

Title
BrowserStack Runner 0.9.5 Unauthenticated RCE via /_log HTTP Handler
Summary
BrowserStack Runner through 0.9.5 contains a remote code execution vulnerability in the /_log HTTP handler that allows unauthenticated network-adjacent attackers to execute arbitrary code by submitting crafted JSON request bodies to the handler, which passes user-supplied data to vm.runInNewContext() combined with eval(). Attackers can escape the Node.js vm sandbox by leveraging a host-context Function reference through util.format to access the host process via this.constructor.constructor, achieving full remote code execution on the underlying system without any authentication.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Strategy: Refactoring

Refactor your program so that you do not have to dynamically generate code.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design
  • Run your code in a "jail" or similar sandbox environment that enforces strict boundaries between the process and the operating system. This may effectively restrict which code can be executed by your product.
  • Examples include the Unix chroot jail and AppArmor. In general, managed code may provide some protection.
  • This may not be a feasible solution, and it only limits the impact to the operating system; the rest of your application may still be subject to compromise.
  • Be careful to avoid CWE-243 and other weaknesses related to jails.
Mitigation MIT-5
Implementation

Strategy: Input Validation

  • Assume all input is malicious. Use an "accept known good" input validation strategy, i.e., use a list of acceptable inputs that strictly conform to specifications. Reject any input that does not strictly conform to specifications, or transform it into something that does.
  • When performing input validation, consider all potentially relevant properties, including length, type of input, the full range of acceptable values, missing or extra inputs, syntax, consistency across related fields, and conformance to business rules. As an example of business rule logic, "boat" may be syntactically valid because it only contains alphanumeric characters, but it is not valid if the input is only expected to contain colors such as "red" or "blue."
  • Do not rely exclusively on looking for malicious or malformed inputs. This is likely to miss at least one undesirable input, especially if the code's environment changes. This can give attackers enough room to bypass the intended validation. However, denylists can be useful for detecting potential attacks or determining which inputs are so malformed that they should be rejected outright.
  • To reduce the likelihood of code injection, use stringent allowlists that limit which constructs are allowed. If you are dynamically constructing code that invokes a function, then verifying that the input is alphanumeric might be insufficient. An attacker might still be able to reference a dangerous function that you did not intend to allow, such as system(), exec(), or exit().
Mitigation
Testing

Use dynamic tools and techniques that interact with the product using large test suites with many diverse inputs, such as fuzz testing (fuzzing), robustness testing, and fault injection. The product's operation may slow down, but it should not become unstable, crash, or generate incorrect results.

Mitigation MIT-32
Operation

Strategy: Compilation or Build Hardening

Run the code in an environment that performs automatic taint propagation and prevents any command execution that uses tainted variables, such as Perl's "-T" switch. This will force the program to perform validation steps that remove the taint, although you must be careful to correctly validate your inputs so that you do not accidentally mark dangerous inputs as untainted (see CWE-183 and CWE-184).

Mitigation
Implementation

For Python programs, it is frequently encouraged to use the ast.literal_eval() function instead of eval, since it is intentionally designed to avoid executing code. However, an adversary could still cause excessive memory or stack consumption via deeply nested structures [REF-1372], so the python documentation discourages use of ast.literal_eval() on untrusted data [REF-1373].

CAPEC-242: Code Injection

An adversary exploits a weakness in input validation on the target to inject new code into that which is currently executing. This differs from code inclusion in that code inclusion involves the addition or replacement of a reference to a code file, which is subsequently loaded by the target and used as part of the code of some application.

CAPEC-35: Leverage Executable Code in Non-Executable Files

An attack of this type exploits a system's trust in configuration and resource files. When the executable loads the resource (such as an image file or configuration file) the attacker has modified the file to either execute malicious code directly or manipulate the target process (e.g. application server) to execute based on the malicious configuration parameters. Since systems are increasingly interrelated mashing up resources from local and remote sources the possibility of this attack occurring is high.

CAPEC-77: Manipulating User-Controlled Variables

This attack targets user controlled variables (DEBUG=1, PHP Globals, and So Forth). An adversary can override variables leveraging user-supplied, untrusted query variables directly used on the application server without any data sanitization. In extreme cases, the adversary can change variables controlling the business logic of the application. For instance, in languages like PHP, a number of poorly set default configurations may allow the user to override variables.
