    Title
GitHub CLI: Attestation Verification Bypass via Unescaped Regex Metacharacters in SAN Matching
    Summary
GitHub CLI (gh) is GitHub’s official command line tool. Prior to 2.97.0, gh attestation verify  builds the certificate Subject Alternative Name matcher from the --signer-repo and --signer-workflow  flag values without escaping regex metacharacters, so a user-supplied repository or workflow name is treated as a regular expression rather than a literal string. Because GitHub permits characters such as  `.`  in organization, repository, and workflow path names and  `.`  is a regex wildcard, an attacker can register a lookalike name (for example github/artifact.attestations-workflows) that satisfies a matcher intended for a different trusted signer (github/artifact-attestations-workflows), bypassing the intended Sigstore attestation verification. Exploitation requires the attacker to create a plausible lookalike repository and produce valid attestations from it, which could undermine supply chain verification for CI/CD pipelines or policy gates that pin trust to a specific signing workflow. This issue is fixed in version 2.97.0.

    Title
GitHub CLI: Terminal escape sequence injection in multiple `gh` commands
    Summary
GitHub CLI (gh) is GitHub's official command line tool. Prior to version 2.97.0, multiple GitHub CLI commands printed externally controlled gist, API, pull request, release, codespace, skill, or agent-task content without neutralizing terminal escape sequences. An attacker who can influence that content can embed escape sequences that are interpreted by the terminal of a user who runs an affected command, with impact ranging from cosmetic manipulation of the title or on-screen content to, on some terminal emulators, command execution. This extends the same class of issue as CVE-2026-45803—which addressed only gh run view --log—to the other affected command paths. This issue is fixed in version 2.97.0.

    Title
GitHub CLI: Unescaped variable components in request URLs could allow path traversal
    Summary
GitHub CLI (gh) is GitHub’s official command line tool. Prior to 2.97.0, some HTTP request URLs interpolate variable path components without percent encoding, allowing URL path metacharacters in attacker-controlled repository or resource values to make gh address a different API endpoint or resource than the user intended. This issue is fixed in version 2.97.0.

    Title
GitHub CLI: Partial token disclosure in `gh auth status` output
    Summary
GitHub CLI (gh) is GitHub's official command line tool. Prior to version 2.97.0, gh auth status masked only the characters after the last underscore in certain fine-grained personal access tokens and GitHub App tokens. As a result, part of an affected token could appear in terminal or CI output that is captured or shared. Authenticated users are affected if they ran gh auth status (without the --show-token flag) with a token type whose format contains an underscore after the prefix. This includes fine-grained personal access tokens (github_pat_*) and GitHub App installation and user access tokens (ghs_*, ghu_*; for example, ghs_<APPID>_<JWT>), as well as the Actions GITHUB_TOKEN. Classic tokens such as gho_* and ghp_* have an underscore-free body and are not affected. This issue is fixed in version 2.97.0.

    Title
GitHub CLI `gh codespace jupyter` could allow remote code execution when connecting to a malicious Codespace
    Summary
GitHub CLI (gh) is GitHub’s official command line tool. From 2.10.0 through 2.95.0, connecting to a malicious Codespace with gh codespace jupyter can allow command execution because the command opens a JupyterLab URL supplied by a process inside the Codespace without validating that it is a loopback HTTP or HTTPS address, allowing a crafted vscode:// or vscode-insiders:// URL to be handed to VS Code. This issue is fixed in version 2.96.0.

    CVE-2026-48501 (GCVE-0-2026-48501)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2026-05-29 15:14 – Updated: 2026-05-29 17:14
    VLAI
    Title
GitHub CLI tokens leak via `gh attestation` commands
    Summary
GitHub CLI (gh) is GitHub’s official command line tool. Prior to 2.93.0, GitHub CLI incorrectly includes authorization header in API requests to TUF repository mirrors via gh attestation, gh release verify, and gh release verify-asset commands. The CLI uses a shared HTTP client with an authentication layer that automatically attaches tokens to outgoing requests. This layer lacks accurate host detection and can incorrectly attribute the target host, providing it with a token it should never receive. Specifically, the host normalization logic collapses any *.github.com subdomain to github.com, so a request to tuf-repo.github.com (a GitHub Pages site, not a GitHub API endpoint) is treated as a request to github.com and receives the user's github.com token. For hosts that don't match github.com or a known GHES instance at all, the resolver falls back to GH_ENTERPRISE_TOKEN if set. The gh attestation, gh release verify and gh release verify-asset commands fetch data from several external hosts as part of their normal operation (TUF metadata from tuf-repo.github.com and tuf-repo-cdn.sigstore.dev, artifact bundles from Azure Blob Storage). Because these requests go through the same authenticated HTTP client, the token is sent to all of them. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.93.0.

    CVE-2026-45803 (GCVE-0-2026-45803)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2026-05-15 15:26 – Updated: 2026-05-15 17:48

    Title
gh: GitHub Actions log output in `gh run view` allows terminal escape sequence injection
    Summary
`gh` is GitHub’s official command line tool. From 1.6.0 to before 2.92.0, a security vulnerability has been identified in GitHub CLI that could allow terminal escape sequence injection when users view GitHub Actions workflow logs using gh run view --log or gh run view --log-failed. The vulnerability stems from the way GitHub CLI handles raw Actions log output. The gh run view --log and gh run view --log-failed commands stream workflow log lines to stdout or the configured pager without sanitizing terminal control sequences. An attacker who can influence GitHub Actions log content, for example via a PR triggered workflow, can embed escape sequences that are replayed in the user's terminal when they inspect the run. Depending on the victim's terminal emulator, injected sequences could change the window title, manipulate on screen content, or in some terminal emulators (such as screen) potentially execute arbitrary commands. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.92.0.

    CVE-2025-25204 (GCVE-0-2025-25204)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2025-02-14 16:38 – Updated: 2025-03-03 19:13
    VLAI
    Title
`gh attestation verify` returns incorrect exit code during verification if no attestations are present
    Summary
`gh` is GitHub’s official command line tool. Starting in version 2.49.0 and prior to version 2.67.0, under certain conditions, a bug in GitHub's Artifact Attestation cli tool `gh attestation verify` causes it to return a zero exit status when no attestations are present. This behavior is incorrect: When no attestations are present, `gh attestation verify` should return a non-zero exit status code, thereby signaling verification failure. An attacker can abuse this flaw to, for example, deploy malicious artifacts in any system that uses `gh attestation verify`'s exit codes to gatekeep deployments. Users are advised to update `gh` to patched version `v2.67.0` as soon as possible.

    Title
GitHub CLI allows downloading malicious GitHub Actions workflow artifact to result in path traversal vulnerability
    Summary
The GitHub CLI is GitHub’s official command line tool. A security vulnerability has been identified in GitHub CLI that could create or overwrite files in unintended directories when users download a malicious GitHub Actions workflow artifact through gh run download. This vulnerability stems from a GitHub Actions workflow artifact named .. when downloaded using gh run download. The artifact name and --dir flag are used to determine the artifact’s download path. When the artifact is named .., the resulting files within the artifact are extracted exactly 1 directory higher than the specified --dir flag value. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.1.

    Title
Recursive repository cloning can leak authentication tokens to non-GitHub submodule hosts in the gh cli
    Summary
The gh cli is GitHub’s official command line tool. A security vulnerability has been identified in the GitHub CLI that could leak authentication tokens when cloning repositories containing `git` submodules hosted outside of GitHub.com and ghe.com. This vulnerability stems from several `gh` commands used to clone a repository with submodules from a non-GitHub host including `gh repo clone`, `gh repo fork`, and `gh pr checkout`. These GitHub CLI commands invoke git with instructions to retrieve authentication tokens using the `credential.helper` configuration variable for any host encountered. Prior to version `2.63.0`, hosts other than GitHub.com and ghe.com are treated as GitHub Enterprise Server hosts and have tokens sourced from the following environment variables before falling back to host-specific tokens stored within system-specific secured storage: 1. `GITHUB_ENTERPRISE_TOKEN`, 2. `GH_ENTERPRISE_TOKEN` and 3. `GITHUB_TOKEN` when the `CODESPACES` environment variable is set. The result being `git` sending authentication tokens when cloning submodules. In version `2.63.0`, these GitHub CLI commands will limit the hosts for which `gh` acts as a credential helper to source authentication tokens. Additionally, `GITHUB_TOKEN` will only be used for GitHub.com and ghe.com. Users are advised to upgrade. Additionally users are advised to revoke authentication tokens used with the GitHub CLI and to review their personal security log and any relevant audit logs for actions associated with their account or enterprise

    Title
Connecting to a malicious Codespaces via GH CLI could allow command execution on the user's computer
    Summary
The GitHub CLI version 2.6.1 and earlier are vulnerable to remote code execution through a malicious codespace SSH server when using `gh codespace ssh` or `gh codespace logs` commands. This has been patched in the cli v2.62.0. Developers connect to remote codespaces through an SSH server running within the devcontainer, which is generally provided through the [default devcontainer image]( https://docs.github.com/en/codespaces/setting-up-your-project-for-codespaces/adding-a-dev-container-... https://docs.github.com/en/codespaces/setting-up-your-project-for-codespaces/adding-a-dev-container-configuration/introduction-to-dev-containers#using-the-default-dev-container-configuration) . GitHub CLI [retrieves SSH connection details]( https://github.com/cli/cli/blob/30066b0042d0c5928d959e288144300cb28196c9/internal/codespaces/rpc/inv... https://github.com/cli/cli/blob/30066b0042d0c5928d959e288144300cb28196c9/internal/codespaces/rpc/invoker.go#L230-L244 ), such as remote username, which is used in [executing `ssh` commands]( https://github.com/cli/cli/blob/e356c69a6f0125cfaac782c35acf77314f18908d/pkg/cmd/codespace/ssh.go#L2... https://github.com/cli/cli/blob/e356c69a6f0125cfaac782c35acf77314f18908d/pkg/cmd/codespace/ssh.go#L263 ) for `gh codespace ssh` or `gh codespace logs` commands. This exploit occurs when a malicious third-party devcontainer contains a modified SSH server that injects `ssh` arguments within the SSH connection details. `gh codespace ssh` and `gh codespace logs` commands could execute arbitrary code on the user's workstation if the remote username contains something like `-oProxyCommand="echo hacked" #`. The `-oProxyCommand` flag causes `ssh` to execute the provided command while `#` shell comment causes any other `ssh` arguments to be ignored. In `2.62.0`, the remote username information is being validated before being used.

    CVE-2026-64655 (GCVE-0-2026-64655)

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2026-08-06 18:41 – Updated: 2026-08-08 02:23

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2026-05-29 15:14 – Updated: 2026-05-29 17:14

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2026-05-15 15:26 – Updated: 2026-05-15 17:48

    Title
gh: GitHub Actions log output in `gh run view` allows terminal escape sequence injection
