Summary
Cisco Unified Communications Products Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

Notes

Summary
A vulnerability in Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Unified CM), Cisco Unified Communications Manager Session Management Edition (Unified CM SME), Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM & Presence Service (Unified CM IM&P), Cisco Unity Connection, and Cisco Webex Calling Dedicated Instance could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system of an affected device. This vulnerability is due to improper validation of user-supplied input in HTTP requests. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a sequence of crafted HTTP requests to the web-based management interface of an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to obtain user-level access to the underlying operating system and then elevate privileges to root. Note: Cisco has assigned this security advisory a Security Impact Rating (SIR) of Critical rather than High as the score indicates. The reason is that exploitation of this vulnerability could result in an attacker elevating privileges to root. Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.
Vulnerable Products
This vulnerability affects the following Cisco products, regardless of device configuration: Unified CM (CSCwr21851 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwr21851"]) Unified CM SME (CSCwr21851 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwr21851"]) Unified CM IM&P (CSCwr29216 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwr29216"]) Unity Connection (CSCwr29208 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwr29208"]) Webex Calling Dedicated Instance (CSCwr21851 ["https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwr21851"]) For information about which Cisco software releases are vulnerable, see the Fixed Software ["#fs"] section of this advisory.

Cisco has confirmed that this vulnerability does not affect the following Cisco products: Contact Center SIP Proxy Customer Collaboration Platform Emergency Responder Finesse Packaged Contact Center Enterprise (Packaged CCE) Prime Collaboration Deployment Unified Contact Center Enterprise (Unified CCE) Unified Contact Center Express (Unified CCX) Unified Intelligence Center (CUIC) Virtualized Voice Browser
Workarounds
There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.
Fixed Software
Cisco considers any workarounds and mitigations (if applicable) to be temporary solutions until an upgrade to a fixed software release is available. To fully remediate this vulnerability and avoid future exposure as described in this advisory, Cisco strongly recommends that customers upgrade to the fixed software indicated in this advisory. Fixed Releases In the following tables, the left column lists Cisco software releases. The right column indicates whether a release is affected by the vulnerability that is described in this advisory and the first release that includes the fix for this vulnerability. Customers are advised to upgrade to an appropriate fixed software release ["https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/resources/security_vulnerability_policy.html#fixes"] as indicated in this section.
