The
code was previously rounding this to 1 list, but we can require 2 in the
worst case. In that scenario, the driver would corrupt memory beyond the
size provided by the mempool.

While unlikely to occur (you'd need a 4MB in exactly 127 phys segments
on a queue that doesn't support SGLs), this memory corruption has been
observed by kfence.
AV:L - The vulnerable code is in the nvme-pci host driver and is reached only through local block I/O submission to an NVMe namespace, not by parsing network packets or remote NVMe fabrics protocols.
AC:L - An attacker can reliably craft large O_DIRECT I/Os with a fragmented user buffer to produce ~2–4MB requests with a high phys-segment count, forcing the PRP path and the undersized mempool overflow without depending on a race or other uncontrolled state.
PR:L - Any unprivileged local user who can write to a file on an NVMe-backed filesystem can submit the triggering I/O; raw block-device privileges or root capabilities are not required.
UI:N - Exploitation requires only attacker-controlled I/O; no separate victim action such as mounting a volume or opening a malicious file is needed.
S:U - This is a host-kernel heap corruption in the NVMe driver that can escalate privileges within the same OS security authority; it does not cross a VM, IOMMU, or other security boundary by itself.
C:H - The bug is a heap out-of-bounds write of PRP list pointers past the iod mempool object, which is memory corruption that can be leveraged for arbitrary kernel read primitives under standard heap-exploitation techniques.
I:H - Out-of-bounds writes into adjacent slab memory enable corruption of kernel objects and control-flow hijacking primitives, so integrity impact is high per OOB-write guidance.
A:H - The same overflow can crash the kernel (observed under KFENCE) via slab corruption or guard-page faults, producing a full availability loss.
AV:L - The vulnerable destroy_qp/destroy_cq sequence is driven through the RDMA verbs interface on /dev/infiniband/uverbsN (or by a local kernel ULP), i.e. local syscall/ioctl access rather than network packets. A remote RDMA peer can only indirectly influence teardown timing on a target service, so the deterministic attack surface is local.
AC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the race — they generate the RoCE traffic that produces in-flight CQ notifications and they choose when to issue destroy_qp followed immediately by destroy_cq — and can loop the sequence indefinitely until it lands. No condition outside attacker control is required.
PR:L - uverbs_devnode() creates /dev/infiniband/uverbs* with mode 0666 and no capability check gates create_cq/create_qp/destroy_qp/destroy_cq, so an ordinary unprivileged local user on a host with a bnxt_re adapter can reach the path.
UI:N - The attacker performs the entire create-traffic-destroy sequence themselves; no action by any other user or administrator is needed.
S:U - The use-after-free corrupts kernel memory within the same kernel security authority; there is no crossing of a VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary.
C:H - bnxt_re_poll_cq() reads a freed hardware queue and a freed cq->cql buffer, and bnxt_qplib_service_nq() dereferences a freed bnxt_re_cq; reclaiming that slab object turns the UAF into a kernel-memory disclosure primitive.
I:H - The UAF gives write primitives — polled CQEs are written into the kfree()d cq->cql array and cq->cnq_events/arm_state are updated in freed memory — and bnxt_re_cqn_handler() calls cq->ib_cq.comp_handler, a function pointer read out of the freed object, which is exploitable for control-flow hijack after heap spray.
A:H - The commit message documents a reproducible kernel panic in bnxt_re_poll_cq+0x14a via ib_cq_poll_work after the CQ was freed; the race can be re-triggered at will to crash the host."

This leads to use-after-free scenarios
where xc5000_release() may free the xc5000_priv while timer_sleep is still
active and attempts to dereference the xc5000_priv.

A typical race condition is illustrated below:

CPU 0 (release thread) | CPU 1 (delayed work callback)
xc5000_release() | xc5000_do_timer_sleep()
cancel_delayed_work() |
hybrid_tuner_release_state(priv) |
kfree(priv) |
| priv = container_of() // UAF

Replace cancel_delayed_work() with cancel_delayed_work_sync() to ensure
that the timer_sleep is properly canceled before the xc5000_priv memory
is deallocated.

A deadlock concern was considered: xc5000_release() is called in a process
context and is not holding any locks that the timer_sleep work item might
also need. Therefore, the use of the _sync() variant is safe here.

This bug was initially identified through static analysis.

[hverkuil: fix typo in Subject: tunner -> tuner]
AV:L - Both halves are software-local: the attacker arms the 5-second `timer_sleep` work through the local `/dev/dvb/adapterN/frontend0` or `/dev/videoN` device node, and the freeing `dvb_frontend_detach()` path is entered by a local write to `/sys/bus/pci/devices/<dev>/remove`/`unbind` or `rmmod` on the PCIe xc5000 cards (cx23885, cx88, saa7134), with no network, adjacent-network, or remote-peer data path into `xc5000_release()`.
AC:L - The attacker fully controls the arming side with deterministic timing — `dvb_shutdown_timeout` defaults to 0, so closing the frontend immediately triggers `xc5000_sleep()` and the work fires exactly 5 s later — and the callback then executes for roughly 350 ms on cx231xx boards (`msleep(10)+msleep(330)+msleep(10)` in `cx231xx_tuner_callback()`), an enormous window that can be re-armed indefinitely for free; once it is hit, `cancel_delayed_work()` cannot steal a running work item and the use-after-free is unconditional.
PR:L - Arming the vulnerable work requires nothing more than opening and closing the DVB frontend or V4L2 video node, which systemd tags with `uaccess` (and which is group `video` on media appliances, set-top boxes and DVR/kiosk systems), so an ordinary unprivileged local account suffices; no capability, user namespace, or root is needed on the attacker-controlled side.
UI:R - Completing the exploit needs the free itself, which only occurs on driver teardown — an administrator running `rmmod`/`unbind`, or a user unplugging the USB TV tuner — an action the unprivileged attacker cannot perform, so a separate user must act while the primed work is executing.
S:U - The corruption is confined to kernel heap objects (the freed `struct xc5000_priv` and whatever reclaims its kmalloc-192 slot) within the same kernel security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - `xc5000_do_timer_sleep()` reads `priv->fe` out of the freed slab and `xc5000_tuner_reset()` then dereferences `fe->dvb`, `fe->dvb->priv` and `priv->i2c_props.adap->algo_data`, so spraying the kmalloc-192 cache turns the dangling pointer into an arbitrary-address read chain and leaks kernel pointers that defeat KASLR.
I:H - `xc5000_tuner_reset()` performs `fe->callback(...)` where `fe` was loaded from the freed object, giving a fully attacker-controlled indirect call with a controlled first argument once the slab is reclaimed — a direct control-flow hijack primitive, not merely a stray read.
A:H - Dereferencing the freed `xc5000_priv` from workqueue context reliably produces a KASAN slab-use-after-free splat and an oops/panic (and the bogus function-pointer call faults in kernel context), taking the system down.
AV:L - The window is opened by a local umount or a local filesystem withdraw, and the glock free is performed by local filesystem activity (inode eviction, glock shrinker, `glock_work_func`); the DLM bast that dereferences the freed object comes from an authenticated cluster peer on a private interconnect and cannot by itself create the dangling pointer. There is no network-facing service path into `gdlm_put_lock()`.
AC:H - Exploitation requires winning a race whose opening the attacker does not control — `DFL_UNMOUNT` is set only by a root-driven umount or an error-driven withdraw — and additionally requires a DLM ast/bast for that exact resource to arrive after the free but before `dlm_release_lockspace()` completes, plus slab reuse after the RCU grace period. The author explicitly characterises it as an "unlikely race" in a "small window of time".
PR:L - Once the teardown window is open (via administrator umount, cluster-manager failover, or a withdraw provoked by storage errors), an ordinary unprivileged user with access to the GFS2 mount drives the vulnerable side: normal file operations force glock disposal through `__gfs2_glock_put → lm_put_lock`, and creating inodes sprays `gfs2_glock_cachep` to groom the freed object. No capability check exists anywhere on that path.
UI:N - The attacker only performs ordinary file operations on an already-mounted GFS2 filesystem; no victim must open a file, mount media, or take any deliberate action. The privileged unmount/withdraw is an environmental system state, accounted for in Attack Complexity rather than user interaction.
S:U - The freed `struct gfs2_glock`, the DLM callback that writes into it, and any resulting corruption all live in the host kernel's own security authority. No hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - This is a use-after-free on a slab object whose contents the attacker can groom by reallocating glocks, and `gdlm_ast()` reads `gl->gl_flags`, `gl->gl_dstamp`, `gl->gl_name.ln_type` and the `gl->gl_name.ln_sbd` pointer out of the freed memory before the dead-lockref guard, using `ln_sbd` as a dereference target — giving an attacker-steerable kernel read primitive.
I:H - Three distinct writes hit the freed object: DLM's `lksb->sb_status`/`sb_flags` stores, `clear_bit(GLF_BLOCKING, &gl->gl_flags)`, and `gfs2_update_stats(&gl->gl_stats, ...)`; worse, `this_cpu_ptr(gl->gl_name.ln_sbd->sd_lkstats)` turns a groomed pointer in the freed object into the destination of a read-modify-write, and a surviving lockref check leads into `gfs2_glock_complete()` and `gl->gl_ops` indirect calls — a control-flow hijack path.
A:H - Dereferencing a freed glock from the DLM callback workqueue produces KASAN splats, oopses on garbage `ln_sbd`/`gl_ops` pointers, and `BUG()` in `gdlm_bast()` on an unrecognised mode, panicking the node. On a clustered filesystem, crashing the node also triggers fencing and cluster-wide recovery.
AV:L - QFQ qdisc configuration is done via tc/netlink (RTM_NEWQDISC, RTM_NEWTCLASS) which requires local system access through netlink sockets. This is not remotely reachable.
AC:L - The attacker fully controls the conditions needed to trigger the desync between child qdisc qlen and class active state. As demonstrated in the related commit (c1d73b1480235), an attacker can create two QFQ qdiscs sharing a child qdisc and manipulate packet flow to create the exact state inconsistency needed.
PR:L - TC/qdisc operations require CAP_NET_ADMIN, which is checked via netlink_net_capable() against the network namespace's user_ns. An unprivileged user can obtain CAP_NET_ADMIN in a user+network namespace via unshare -Urn.
UI:N - No user interaction is required. The attacker can set up the QFQ qdiscs, enqueue packets, and trigger the vulnerable code path entirely autonomously.
S:U - The vulnerability affects the kernel within its own security authority. There is no crossing of security boundaries such as VM escape or IOMMU bypass.
C:H - The state desync can lead to a use-after-free when a class remains linked to a freed aggregate's active list (path 2: qlen manipulated to 0 while class is still active, skipping deactivation before aggregate destruction). UAF enables the attacker to control freed object contents and achieve arbitrary memory read.
I:H - The same use-after-free condition allows heap spraying to replace the freed aggregate structure, giving the attacker arbitrary write primitives and potential control flow hijacking through corrupted function pointers or list operations.
A:H - Both exploit paths lead to kernel crashes: path 1 causes a NULL pointer dereference in qfq_deactivate_agg/qfq_slot_remove when deactivating an already-inactive aggregate, and path 2's UAF causes crashes when accessing freed memory. The related commit (c1d73b1480235) demonstrates a concrete kernel panic.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

RDMA/uverbs: Validate wqe_size before using it in ib_uverbs_post_send

ib_uverbs_post_send() uses cmd.wqe_size from userspace without any
validation before passing it to kmalloc() and using the allocated
buffer as struct ib_uverbs_send_wr.

If a user provides a small wqe_size value (e.g., 1), kmalloc() will
succeed, but subsequent accesses to user_wr->opcode, user_wr->num_sge,
and other fields will read beyond the allocated buffer, resulting in
an out-of-bounds read from kernel heap memory. This could potentially
leak sensitive kernel information to userspace.

Additionally, providing an excessively large wqe_size can trigger a
WARNING in the memory allocation path, as reported by syzkaller.

This is inconsistent with ib_uverbs_unmarshall_recv() which properly
validates that wqe_size >= sizeof(struct ib_uverbs_recv_wr) before
proceeding.

Add the same validation for ib_uverbs_post_send() to ensure wqe_size
is at least sizeof(struct ib_uverbs_send_wr).
AV:L - GFS2 is a local disk filesystem with no network-facing handler; the vulnerable qd lifecycle is reached only via local filesystem operations (mount, quota-incurring I/O, unmount/withdrawal, and the memory shrinker). No remote peer data path exists.
AC:L - The bug leaves a freed object permanently linked on the global gfs2_qd_lru, so it is persistent rather than a tight race; the attacker can reliably drive the shrinker into the freed object by inducing memory pressure, with no condition outside the attacker's control.
PR:L - Triggering requires local access to a GFS2 filesystem and the poisoned LRU is then dereferenced by an unprivileged memory-pressure-driven shrinker walk; consistent with clustered-filesystem UAF scoring (ocfs2 CVE-2026-31597/43075).
UI:N - Once the LRU is corrupted, the use-after-free is reached through ordinary kernel memory reclaim without requiring any separate victim action.
S:U - The corruption and its impact are confined to the kernel's own memory/security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - The shrinker reads fields of the freed gfs2_quota_data object, and the freed slab can be reallocated with attacker-controlled data, enabling kernel memory disclosure typical of a use-after-free.
I:H - gfs2_qd_isolate writes to the freed object (lockref_mark_dead and list_lru_isolate_move), giving a write primitive over freed/reallocated memory that can be leveraged for heap manipulation and control-flow corruption.
A:H - The slab-use-after-free reliably corrupts the LRU list and freed memory, causing kernel oops/panic as observed by KASAN/syzbot.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net/sched: act_ct: Only release RCU read lock after ct_ft

When looking up a flow table in act_ct in tcf_ct_flow_table_get(),
rhashtable_lookup_fast() internally opens and closes an RCU read critical
section before returning ct_ft.
The tcf_ct_flow_table_cleanup_work() can complete before refcount_inc_not_zero()
is invoked on the returned ct_ft resulting in a UAF on the already freed ct_ft
object. This vulnerability can lead to privilege escalation.

Analysis from zdi-disclosures@trendmicro.com:
When initializing act_ct, tcf_ct_init() is called, which internally triggers
tcf_ct_flow_table_get().

static int tcf_ct_flow_table_get(struct net *net, struct tcf_ct_params *params)

{
struct zones_ht_key key = { .net = net, .zone = params->zone };
struct tcf_ct_flow_table *ct_ft;
int err = -ENOMEM;

mutex_lock(&zones_mutex);
ct_ft = rhashtable_lookup_fast(&zones_ht, &key, zones_params); // [1]
if (ct_ft && refcount_inc_not_zero(&ct_ft->ref)) // [2]
goto out_unlock;
...
}

static __always_inline void *rhashtable_lookup_fast(
struct rhashtable *ht, const void *key,
const struct rhashtable_params params)
{
void *obj;

rcu_read_lock();
obj = rhashtable_lookup(ht, key, params);
rcu_read_unlock();

return obj;
}

At [1], rhashtable_lookup_fast() looks up and returns the corresponding ct_ft
from zones_ht . The lookup is performed within an RCU read critical section
through rcu_read_lock() / rcu_read_unlock(), which prevents the object from
being freed. However, at the point of function return, rcu_read_unlock() has
already been called, and there is nothing preventing ct_ft from being freed
before reaching refcount_inc_not_zero(&ct_ft->ref) at [2]. This interval becomes
the race window, during which ct_ft can be freed.

Free Process:

tcf_ct_flow_table_put() is executed through the path tcf_ct_cleanup() call_rcu()
tcf_ct_params_free_rcu() tcf_ct_params_free() tcf_ct_flow_table_put().

static void tcf_ct_flow_table_put(struct tcf_ct_flow_table *ct_ft)
{
if (refcount_dec_and_test(&ct_ft->ref)) {
rhashtable_remove_fast(&zones_ht, &ct_ft->node, zones_params);
INIT_RCU_WORK(&ct_ft->rwork, tcf_ct_flow_table_cleanup_work); // [3]
queue_rcu_work(act_ct_wq, &ct_ft->rwork);
}
}

At [3], tcf_ct_flow_table_cleanup_work() is scheduled as RCU work

static void tcf_ct_flow_table_cleanup_work(struct work_struct *work)

{
struct tcf_ct_flow_table *ct_ft;
struct flow_block *block;

ct_ft = container_of(to_rcu_work(work), struct tcf_ct_flow_table,
rwork);
nf_flow_table_free(&ct_ft->nf_ft);
block = &ct_ft->nf_ft.flow_block;
down_write(&ct_ft->nf_ft.flow_block_lock);
WARN_ON(!list_empty(&block->cb_list));
up_write(&ct_ft->nf_ft.flow_block_lock);
kfree(ct_ft); // [4]

module_put(THIS_MODULE);
}

tcf_ct_flow_table_cleanup_work() frees ct_ft at [4]. When this function executes
between [1] and [2], UAF occurs.

This race condition has a very short race window, making it generally
difficult to trigger. Therefore, to trigger the vulnerability an msleep(100) was
inserted after[1]
AV:L - The UAF is triggered only during act_ct TC action configuration via RTM_NEWACTION/RTM_DELACTION or RTM_NEWTFILTER netlink messages, not by processing remote network packets. Per kernel guidance, tc/netlink qdisc paths are Local attack vector.
AC:L - The race is between flow-table lookup and refcount increment during concurrent create/delete/replace of ct actions, and an attacker with CAP_NET_ADMIN controls both sides by issuing parallel netlink operations on actions sharing the same zone. UAF races where the attacker controls timing are scored AC:L.
PR:L - All non-GET rtnetlink TC operations require CAP_NET_ADMIN, checked in rtnetlink_rcv_msg() and tc_ctl_action(). CAP_NET_ADMIN is obtainable by an unprivileged user inside a user+network namespace (unshare -Urn), which per kernel guidance is PR:L not PR:H.
UI:N - Exploitation requires only the attacker's own netlink configuration traffic; no victim user action such as opening a file or mounting a filesystem is needed.
S:U - A successful exploit yields kernel-level privilege escalation within the same kernel security domain. This is standard local kernel compromise, not a cross-boundary escape such as VM guest-to-host or IOMMU bypass.
C:H - The bug is a heap use-after-free on struct tcf_ct_flow_table during refcount_inc_not_zero() on memory that tcf_ct_flow_table_cleanup_work() may have already kfree()'d. UAF on kernel heap objects enables arbitrary memory read primitives and is scored C:H.
I:H - Freed tcf_ct_flow_table slabs can be reallocated and corrupted via the dangling refcount operation, providing heap manipulation primitives that ZDI and the fix commit describe as leading to privilege escalation. Memory corruption UAF is scored I:H.
A:H - Hitting the UAF during refcount manipulation on freed memory can cause kernel oops/panic or deliberate denial of service, and UAF bugs inherently threaten availability even when exploitation is attempted. Any kernel crash or UAF is scored A:H.
AV:N - GFS2 can back kernel NFS/ksmbd exports, and remote file create/write/unlink requests reach the GFS2 VFS paths that create transactions and wake gfs2_logd. A remote attacker therefore does not need local code execution on a reasonably deployed file server using GFS2 storage.
AC:L - The race is driven by ordinary concurrent filesystem activity and log pressure, which an attacker can create by issuing repeated parallel writes/metadata operations. No rare hardware state or uncontrollable timing condition is required beyond normal kernel scheduling.
PR:N - In the highest reasonable deployment, a writable NFS export or guest/share can allow anonymous or unauthenticated remote write activity to reach these paths. No kernel capability or local administrative privilege is required to trigger the vulnerable log/transaction interaction in that scenario.
UI:N - Once the GFS2 filesystem is mounted/exported, exploitation only requires attacker-initiated filesystem operations. No separate victim action is needed during the attack.
S:U - The affected component is the host kernel filesystem implementation, and the impact remains within that kernel/filesystem security authority. This is not a VM escape, IOMMU bypass, or cross-authority boundary violation.
C:H - The missing exclusion can corrupt GFS2 log/revoke and AIL state, making stale or incorrect filesystem contents plausibly reachable after replay or recovery. Under the required uncertainty rule, filesystem journal corruption that can expose arbitrary stored data is scored as high confidentiality impact.
I:H - The bug affects journal/log bookkeeping that protects filesystem metadata and replay ordering, so a triggered race can corrupt or roll back arbitrary filesystem state. This is high integrity impact for a shared GFS2 volume.
A:H - The race can lead to GFS2 withdraws, hangs, assertion failures, or filesystem unavailability under log flushing pressure. That is a high availability impact for the affected kernel/filesystem instance."
