What kind of vulnerability is it? Who is impacted?
A verifier configured with WithTransparencyLog(N>1) or WithSignedCertificateTimestamps(N>1) expected defense-in-depth against the compromise of a single log instance. However, threshold counting counted verified witnesses per-entry or per-validation-path rather than per-log-authority.
As a result, a single compromised transparency log could forge multiple entries with different indices, and a single compromised CT log could verify multiple times (either across multiple certificate chains or via multiple embedded SCTs), fully satisfying the multi-log threshold requirements and defeating the multi-log policy.
Note that this does not affect Cosign, as Cosign sets a threshold of 1.

This vulnerability allows a single compromised transparency log or Certificate Transparency (CT) log to bypass the multi-log threshold requirements. An attacker could exploit this by compromising a single log, thereby defeating the intended security policy and potentially compromising the integrity of the verification process.
A flaw was found in sigstore-go, a software library used for verifying digital signatures. This vulnerability specifically affects the workflow for self-managed long-lived signing keys that do not use certificates. An attacker who possesses an expired signing key can exploit this by creating and signing software bundles that the system will incorrectly accept as valid. This bypasses the intended security checks, potentially leading to the acceptance of unauthorized or malicious software.
CWE-347 - Improper Verification of Cryptographic SignatureA flaw was found in golang.org/x/text. The norm.Iter component can enter an infinite loop when processing input that contains invalid UTF-8 (Unicode Transformation Format - 8-bit) bytes. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by providing specially crafted input, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS) condition where the affected application becomes unresponsive.

This vulnerability allows a single compromised transparency log or Certificate Transparency (CT) log to bypass the multi-log threshold requirements. An attacker could exploit this by compromising a single log, thereby defeating the intended security policy and potentially compromising the integrity of the verification process.
A flaw was found in sigstore-go, a software library used for verifying digital signatures. This vulnerability specifically affects the workflow for self-managed long-lived signing keys that do not use certificates. An attacker who possesses an expired signing key can exploit this by creating and signing software bundles that the system will incorrectly accept as valid. sigstore-go is a Go library for Sigstore signing and verification. Prior to 1.2.0, a verifier configured with WithTransparencyLog(N>1) or WithSignedCertificateTimestamps(N>1) counts verified witnesses per entry or per validation path rather than per log authority, allowing a single compromised transparency log or CT log to satisfy multi-log threshold requirements and defeat the multi-log policy. This issue is fixed in version 1.2.0.
