    Title
File Browser: Command Allowlist Bypass via Shell Metacharacter Injection
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.33.8, when a shell interpreter is configured (e.g. /bin/sh -c), the command allowlist can be bypassed through shell metacharacters. The allowlist validates only the first token of user input, but the entire raw string is handed to the shell — semicolons, pipes, backticks, and $() all work to chain arbitrary commands after a permitted one. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.33.8.

    Title
File Browser: Command Injection via Authentication Hook Shell Substitution (Pre-Authentication RCE)
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.6, the Hook Authentication feature in File Browser allows administrators to delegate login verification to an external shell command. User-supplied credentials (username and password) are interpolated into this command string using os.Expand without sanitization. An unauthenticated remote attacker can inject shell metacharacters in the username or password field at the login screen, causing the server to execute arbitrary OS commands before any authentication takes place. This is a critical pre-authentication RCE. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.6.

    Title
File Browser: Authentication Bypass via Proxy Auth Header Forgery
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Starting with 2.0.0-rc.1, when FileBrowser is configured with proxy authentication (auth.method=proxy), any unauthenticated attacker who can reach the server directly can impersonate any user - including admin - by sending a single forged HTTP header. No credentials are required. Additionally, specifying a non-existent username causes the server to automatically create a new user account, providing an account creation primitive with no authorization. This is an already known issue that has been documented in the documentation for several years, but has not been documented as a vulnerability before.

This is an already known issue that has been documented in the documentation for several years, but has not been documented as a vulnerability before."

    Title
File Browser: Incorrect access control in public directory shares via rule path rebasing
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.6, File Browser's public share handlers rebase the share owner's filesystem root to the shared directory and then evaluate descendant paths against the owner's global and per-user rules using the rebased relative path instead of the original path relative to the owner's scope. As a result, an attacker who knows a public directory share URL can access files and subdirectories that the owner explicitly blocked with rules, as long as those blocked paths are located underneath the shared directory. In the simplest case this is an unauthenticated information disclosure through `GET /api/public/share/*` and `GET /api/public/dl/*`. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.6.

File Browser: DoS Vulnerability on Public Login API
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.6, unchecked passwords maximums allow for an arbitrarily large password to be passed into the login API. This spikes CPU and memory, and after testing, crashes, heavily lags any container created, and has even made my docker daemon start to send errors with status code 500 even after the container was destroyed. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.6.

    Title
File Browser: Cross-user unauthorized share-link deletion via unbounded prefix match in DeleteWithPathPrefix
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.6, a low-privileged authenticated user of filebrowser (with create + delete permissions in their own isolated scope) can silently destroy share-link records belonging to any other user — including the administrator — by performing a legitimate DELETE on a file in their own directory whose logical path happens to be a byte-prefix of another user's stored share.Link.Path. The file contents of the victim are not exposed, but the victim's share links are irrevocably wiped. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.6.

    Title
File Browser: Path traversal in download-as-zip/tar via Windows-style backslash separators in stored filenames
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.6, filebrowser builds the download-as-zip / download-as-tar archive entry names with filepath.ToSlash, which on a Linux host is a no-op for backslashes (\ is only a path separator on Windows). A file whose name contains Windows-style traversal is accepted by the resource handlers, stored on the Linux filesystem with a literal backslash name, and then emitted verbatim as the archive entry name. Windows extractors interpret \ as a path separator and write the extracted file outside the extraction directory — arbitrary file write on the victim who downloads and extracts the archive. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.6.

    Title
File Browser: Symlink following lets scoped users read, overwrite, and share files outside their filebrowser scope
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.14, it does not stop the HTTP file handlers from following symbolic links before they open, serve, write, share, or list a file. As a result, a scoped user — and in some cases an unauthenticated public-share recipient — can cross the intended scope boundary by following a symlink whose path is lexically inside their scope but whose target is outside it. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.14.

    Title
File Browser: Improper Access Control Occurs via Pre-Created Public Share for a Non-existent Path
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.7, `POST /api/share/<path>` accepts an authenticated request for an arbitrary path and stores a public share record without checking whether the target file currently exists. Later, when a file is created at that same path, the previously created public share immediately becomes valid and exposes the new file through `GET /api/public/dl/<hash>`. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.7.

    Title
File Browser: Out-of-scope file deletion by a Create-only scoped user via symlink-following RemoveAll in upload failure-cleanup
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.16, a scoped, non-admin File Browser user holding only the Create permission can delete arbitrary files outside their scope (other tenants' data, and the application's own database) via the upload failure-cleanup path. ScopedFs.RemoveAll is the one dereferencing operation that skips the symlink guard every other method enforces. The direct-upload handler runs RemoveAll on the user-controlled path during failed-upload cleanup, gated only by Perm.Create. If an escaping directory symlink already exists inside the user's scope, an authenticated create-only user can delete an out-of-scope target, bypassing both the ScopedFs boundary and the Perm.Delete gate. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.16.

    Title
File Browser: Proxy auth auto-provisioned users inherit Execute permission and Commands
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.1, the fix in commit b6a4fb1 ("self-registered users don't get execute perms") stripped Execute permission and Commands from users created via the signup handler. The same fix was not applied to the proxy auth handler. Users auto-created on first successful proxy-auth login are granted execution capabilities from global defaults, even though the signup path was explicitly changed to prevent execution rights from being inherited by automatically provisioned accounts. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.1.

    Title
File Browser discloses text file content via /api/resources endpoint bypassing Perm.Download check
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.1, the resourceGetHandler in http/resource.go returns full text file content without checking the Perm.Download permission flag. All three other content-serving endpoints (/api/raw, /api/preview, /api/subtitle) correctly verify this permission before serving content. A user with download: false can read any text file within their scope through two bypass paths. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.1.

    Title
File Browser has an access rule bypass via HasPrefix without trailing separator in path matching
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.1, the Matches() function in rules/rules.go uses strings.HasPrefix() without a trailing directory separator when matching paths against access rules. A rule for /uploads also matches /uploads_backup/, granting or denying access to unintended directories. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.1.

    Title
File Browser share links remain accessible after Share/Download permissions are revoked
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.1, when an admin revokes a user's Share and Download permissions, existing share links created by that user remain fully accessible to unauthenticated users. The public share download handler does not re-check the share owner's current permissions. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.1.

    Title
File Browser has a Command Injection via Hook Runner
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. From 2.0.0 until 2.33.8, the hook system in File Browser — which executes administrator-defined shell commands on file events such as upload, rename, and delete — is vulnerable to OS command injection. Variable substitution for values like $FILE and $USERNAME is performed via os.Expand without sanitization. An attacker with file write permission can craft a malicious filename containing shell metacharacters, causing the server to execute arbitrary OS commands when the hook fires. This results in Remote Code Execution (RCE). This feature has been disabled by default for all installations from v2.33.8 onwards, including for existent installations.

From 2.0.0 until 2.33.8, the hook system in File Browser \u2014 which executes administrator-defined shell commands on file events such as upload, rename, and delete \u2014 is vulnerable to OS command injection. This feature has been disabled by default for all installations from v2.33.8 onwards, including for existent installations."

    Title
File Browser is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via text/template branding injection
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to version 2.62.2, the SPA index page in File Browser is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) via admin-controlled branding fields. An admin who sets branding.name to a malicious payload injects persistent JavaScript that executes for ALL visitors, including unauthenticated users. This issue has been patched in version 2.62.2.

    Title
File Browser's Signup Grants Execution Permissions When Default Permissions Includes Execution
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to version 2.62.2, the signupHandler in File Browser applies default user permissions via d.settings.Defaults.Apply(user), then strips only Admin. The Execute permission and Commands list from the default user template are not stripped. When an administrator has enabled signup, server-side execution, and set Execute=true in the default user template, any unauthenticated user who self-registers inherits shell execution capabilities and can run arbitrary commands on the server. This issue has been patched in version 2.62.2.

    Title
File Browser TUS Negative Upload-Length Fires Post-Upload Hooks Prematurely
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. In versions on the 2.x branch prior to 2.33.8, the TUS resumable upload handler parses the Upload-Length header as a signed 64-bit integer without validating that the value is non-negative, allowing an authenticated user to supply a negative value that instantly satisfies the upload completion condition upon the first PATCH request. This causes the server to fire after_upload exec hooks with empty or partial files, enabling an attacker to repeatedly trigger any configured hook with arbitrary filenames and zero bytes written. The impact ranges from DoS through expensive processing hooks, to command injection amplification when combined with malicious filenames, to abuse of upload-driven workflows like S3 ingestion or database inserts. Even without exec hooks enabled, the negative Upload-Length creates inconsistent cache entries where files are marked complete but contain no data. All deployments using the TUS upload endpoint (/api/tus) are affected, with the enableExec flag escalating the impact from cache inconsistency to remote command execution. This feature has been disabled by default for all installations from v2.33.8 onwards, including for existent installations. To exploit this vulnerability, the instance administrator must turn on a feature and ignore all the warnings about known vulnerabilities.

    Title
File Browser Self Registration Grants Any User Admin Access When Default Permissions Include Admin
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. In versions 2.61.2 and below, any unauthenticated visitor can register a full administrator account when self-registration (signup = true) is enabled and the default user permissions have perm.admin = true. The signup handler blindly applies all default settings (including Perm.Admin) to the new user without any server-side guard that strips admin from self-registered accounts. The signupHandler is supposed to create unprivileged accounts for new visitors. It contains no explicit user.Perm.Admin = false reset after applying defaults. If an administrator (intentionally or accidentally) configures defaults.perm.admin = true and also enables signup, every account created via the public registration endpoint is an administrator with full control over all files, users, and server settings. This issue has been resolved in version 2.62.0.

    Title
File Browser has an Access Rule Bypass via Path Traversal in Copy/Rename Destination Parameter
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Versions 2.61.2 and below are vulnerable to Path Traversal through the resourcePatchHandler (http/resource.go). The destination path in resourcePatchHandler is validated against access rules before being cleaned/normalized, while the actual file operation calls path.Clean() afterward—resolving .. sequences into a different effective path. This allows an authenticated user with Create or Rename permissions to bypass administrator-configured deny rules (both prefix-based and regex-based) by injecting .. sequences in the destination parameter of a PATCH request. As a result, the user can write or move files into any deny-rule-protected path within their scope. However, this cannot be used to escape the user's BasePathFs scope or read from restricted paths. This issue has been fixed in version 2.62.0.

    Title
File Browser has an Authorization Policy Bypass in its Public Share Download Flow
    Summary
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Versions 2.61.0 and below contain a permission enforcement bypass which allows users who are denied download privileges (perm.download = false) but granted share privileges (perm.share = true) to exfiltrate file content by creating public share links. While the direct raw download endpoint (/api/raw/) correctly enforces the download permission, the share creation endpoint only checks Perm.Share, and the public download handler (/api/public/dl/<hash>) serves file content without verifying that the original file owner has download permission. This means any authenticated user with share access can circumvent download restrictions by sharing a file and then retrieving it via the unauthenticated public download URL. The vulnerability undermines data-loss prevention and role-separation policies, as restricted users can publicly distribute files they are explicitly blocked from downloading directly. This issue has been fixed in version 2.62.0.
