Title
scsi: libiscsi: Reject a negative task index from parse_pdu_itt
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: libiscsi: Reject a negative task index from parse_pdu_itt A transport that implements parse_pdu_itt hands libiscsi an index taken from the PDU, and both lookups bound it from above only: if (i >= session->cmds_max) i and cmds_max are both int, so a negative index passes and session->cmds[i] is read from before the array. be2iscsi produces one. beiscsi_parse_pdu() assigns the raw tag, *index = (int)itt; and beiscsi_complete_pdu() forwards an unsolicited NOP-In from the hardware async ring without replacing its ITT, so the value is the target's. It also reports the session's own age rather than the one in the tag, which leaves the age comparison in iscsi_verify_itt() with nothing to reject. Bound the index from below in both lookups.

The sender chooses the ITT, and no race, timing window, or uncontrollable state is required.\nPR:N - The remote iSCSI target needs no host privilege: beiscsi_complete_pdu() accepts the hardware-ring NOP-In and __iscsi_complete_pdu() calls iscsi_verify_itt() without a credential or session-state gate. CAP_SYS_ADMIN governs local netlink setup, not this receive path.\nUI:N - The IRQ-poll path automatically processes the target\u0027s NOP-In through beiscsi_hdq_process_compl() and beiscsi_hdl_fwd_pdu(); no user must open a file, issue I/O, or approve the malformed PDU.\nS:U - The invalid session-\u003ecmds lookup and subsequent iscsi_task and be2iscsi resource corruption occur within the initiator host kernel; no VM, IOMMU, or other security-authority boundary is crossed.\nC:H - beiscsi_parse_pdu() supplies attacker-controlled signed i to iscsi_itt_to_task(), permitting a pointer-sized read at an attacker-selected offset before session-\u003ecmds. The loaded pointer is then dereferenced as an iscsi_task, making this an unbounded kernel-memory read and type-confusion primitive.\nI:H - iscsi_pool_init() places its original task-pointer table immediately before session-\u003ecmds, so negative indices can select real unrelated tasks. iscsi_complete_task() then changes task state/refcounts and can invoke beiscsi_cleanup_task() to free live DMA, WRB, and SGL resources.\nA:H - A farther-negative index can fault while reading session-\u003ecmds[i], while an index resolving to a never-used task reaches iscsi_nop_out_rsp() with task-\u003econn NULL. A single target-supplied NOP-In can therefore oops or panic the kernel."

Drag nodes to arrange them. Double-click a related vulnerability to open it, or a source to visit its link. The Physics button on the left tunes the layout and the simulation; the legend at the bottom left hides or shows nodes by kind and by sighting type.

Forecast uses a logistic model when the trend is rising, or an exponential decay model when the trend is falling. Fitted via linearized least squares.

Nomenclature

  • Seen: The vulnerability was mentioned, discussed, or observed by the user.
  • Confirmed: The vulnerability has been validated from an analyst's perspective.
  • Published Proof of Concept: A public proof of concept is available for this vulnerability.
  • Exploited: The vulnerability was observed as exploited by the user who reported the sighting.
  • Patched: The vulnerability was observed as successfully patched by the user who reported the sighting.
  • Not exploited: The vulnerability was not observed as exploited by the user who reported the sighting.
  • Not confirmed: The user expressed doubt about the validity of the vulnerability.
  • Not patched: The vulnerability was not observed as successfully patched by the user who reported the sighting.

How durations are calculated

Following the VTEM framework (Black Hat USA 2015), time to patch starts when the vendor or a coordinator was informed, total time to patch at discovery, and disclosure to patch at public disclosure; vendor response time runs from the report to its acknowledgement. Time to exploit and time unpatched start at the earliest discovery or report, falling back to public disclosure. Unpatched time ends at the first recorded patch, or the calculation time when no patch is recorded. Exploitation to patch shows the interval between those two events; a published proof of concept is a public exploit, not exploitation.

Each result shows its source dates. A negative interval means the end event came first; when date-only inputs leave the order open, the result says so. Date-only inputs are approximate. The earliest evidence wins: KEV report dates and sightings are labelled as such. Records describing another vulnerability are listed but never calculated from, and a PoC alone does not establish exploitation. Missing patch evidence does not prove that no patch exists. Filters below change the event list only.

    Related by attack behaviour

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
