Title
coturn: mobility disconnects bypass allocation quotas and exhaust relay capacity
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.17.0, shutdown_client_connection() in src/server/ns_turn_server.c prematurely calls dec_quota() and releases bandwidth accounting during the first-stage close of a mobility-enabled allocation while preserving the allocation, relay socket, session, and mobility ticket, allowing an authenticated client to bypass --user-quota and --total-quota and exhaust relay ports. This issue is fixed in version 4.17.0.

Title
The coturn server can end in a state where it does not accept more requests with "even-port" enabled.
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.17.0, turnports_allocate_even() in src/apps/relay/turn_ports.c marks the unused odd sibling port as TPS_TAKEN_ODD for an EVEN-PORT Allocate request with reservation bit R=0 even though no RTCP socket will release it, allowing an authenticated client to permanently exhaust the relay port pool and cause subsequent allocations to fail with STUN error 508. This issue is fixed in version 4.17.0.

coturn allocates a full per-peer SSL/session before verifying the DTLS cookie, enabling source-spoofing/botnet state-exhaustion DoS
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.16.0, dtls_server_input_handler() and create_new_connected_udp_socket() in src/apps/relay/dtls_listener.c retain OpenSSL dtls1_reassemble_fragment() state for a 35-byte fragmented ClientHello declaring a 650,000-byte handshake before cookie validation, allowing an unauthenticated remote sender using fresh UDP tuples to exhaust memory without TURN credentials, a completed handshake, a valid cookie, or source spoofing. This issue is fixed in version 4.16.0.

Prior to 4.16.0, addr_less_eq() in src/client/ns_turn_ioaddr.c uses a component-wise comparison for native IPv6 min-max intervals in ioa_addr_in_range(), allowing an authenticated TURN client to relay to an IPv6 peer that is numerically within a configured non-prefix-aligned denied-peer-ip range but is classified as outside it. This issue is fixed in version 4.16.0.

Title
Coturn: MOBILITY-TICKET session-resume authorization bypass allows cross-user TURN allocation takeover
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.15.0, a server using --mobility authenticates a resumed REFRESH request with the resuming user's credentials but does not verify that identity against the original allocation owner, allowing an authenticated attacker who obtains a victim MOBILITY-TICKET to receive and inject relayed traffic and consume the victim's quota. In the handle_turn_refresh resume branch, the victim allocation (orig_ss) is located solely by the attacker-controlled mobile id, and credentials are only adopted (via copy_auth_parameters) when the resuming session is unauthenticated. Because the attacker's session already has hmackey_set set to 1 from its own prior authentication (which is never reset for long-term-credential sessions), the credential copy is skipped and check_stun_auth validates the REFRESH against the attacker's own identity rather than the allocation owner's. This issue is fixed in version 4.15.0.

Coturn: Pre-authentication heap memory disclosure in ACME redirect (`try_acme_redirect`)
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. From 4.5.2 through 4.14.0, when Coturn is started with --acme-redirect <URL> and exposes a plaintext-TCP listener, an unauthenticated remote client can send a single ordinary HTTP GET request and receive a 301 response whose Location header contains up to ~870 bytes of adjacent process heap memory. The leaked region is a recycled network receive buffer that is reused without being zeroed, so on a busy server it can contain data from other clients' requests (TURN credentials, OAuth tokens, relayed payloads). Root cause is a signed→unsigned conversion. This issue is fixed in version 4.15.0.

Prior to 4.13.0, coturn rejects loopback peers by default unless allow-loopback-peers is enabled, but the default loopback guard can be bypassed by using the IPv4-mapped IPv6 peer address ::ffff:127.0.0.1 in a TURN XOR-PEER-ADDRESS attribute. ioa_addr_is_loopback checks for the literal IPv6 loopback shape before IPv4-mapped IPv6 handling, so good_peer_addr does not apply the default loopback rejection and an authenticated TURN client can expose services bound only to localhost on the coturn host through TURN relay traffic. This issue is fixed in version 4.13.0.

Coturn: Arbitrary File Write via CLI psd Command
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.13.0, the psd print sessions dump CLI command in coturn takes a filename argument and directly passes it to fopen with no path validation. An authenticated admin with CLI access can overwrite arbitrary files writable by the coturn process because the command string is used as-is after stripping the psd prefix and leading spaces, allowing truncation and overwrite with session dump data. This issue is fixed in version 4.13.0.

Coturn: SQL Injection in HTTPS Admin Panel Delete Operations
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.12.0, the coturn HTTPS admin panel passes HTTP query parameters directly into SQL queries via snprintf string interpolation without sanitization. The is_secure_string filter that protects the STUN protocol path is not applied to the admin panel's delete-user, delete-secret, and delete-IP operations, so an authenticated admin can inject arbitrary SQL through the du, ds, and dip parameters, gaining full database control and potentially OS-level access via PostgreSQL COPY TO PROGRAM. This issue is fixed in version 4.12.0.

Coturn: Stack buffer overflow in decode_oauth_token_gcm()
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Versions prior to 4.10.0 contain a stack buffer overflow in decode_oauth_token_gcm(). A uint16_t nonce_len field read from an attacker-supplied OAuth access token (0-65535) is passed directly to memcpy() as the copy length into a 256-byte stack buffer (oauth_encrypted_block.nonce[256]) without bounds checking. The overflow occurs before AES-GCM authentication is verified, the attacker does not need to know the OAuth key or produce a valid AES-GCM token. Up to 735 bytes of attacker-controlled data are written past the buffer, may corrupt adjacent stack data, including control-flow data depending on compiler, ABI, and mitigations. Requires --oauth mode (non-default). This may provide a plausible RCE primitive depending on exploit mitigations; because coturn is widely deployed for WebRTC TURN/STUN and --oauth is commonly recommended, impact can be broad. This issue has been fixed in version 4.10.0.

An attacker who can create a TURN allocation with a crafted USERNAME value can inject HTML/JavaScript that executes when an authenticated web-admin user views the TURN session list. Coturn: Misaligned Memory Access in coturn STUN Attribute Parser (Remote DoS on ARM64)
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.10.0, the STUN/TURN attribute parsing functions in coturn perform unsafe pointer casts from uint8_t * to uint16_t * without alignment checks. When processing a crafted STUN message with odd-aligned attribute boundaries, this results in misaligned memory reads at ns_turn_msg.c. On ARM64 architectures (AArch64) with strict alignment enforcement, this causes a SIGBUS signal that immediately kills the turnserver process. An unauthenticated remote attacker can crash any ARM64 coturn deployment by sending a single crafted UDP packet. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.10.0.

Coturn: IPv4-mapped IPv6 (::ffff:0:0/96) bypasses denied-peer-ip ACL
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Coturn is commonly configured to block loopback and internal ranges using "denied-peer-ip" and/or default loopback restrictions. CVE-2020-26262 addressed bypasses involving "0.0.0.0", "[::1]" and "[::]", but IPv4-mapped IPv6 is not covered. When sending a "CreatePermission" or "ChannelBind" request with the "XOR-PEER-ADDRESS" value of "::ffff:127.0.0.1", a successful response is received, even though "127.0.0.0/8" is blocked via "denied-peer-ip". The root cause is that, prior to the updated fix implemented in version 4.9.0, three functions in "src/client/ns_turn_ioaddr.c" do not check "IN6_IS_ADDR_V4MAPPED". "ioa_addr_is_loopback()" checks "127.x.x.x" (AF_INET) and "::1" (AF_INET6), but not "::ffff:127.0.0.1." "ioa_addr_is_zero()" checks "0.0.0.0" and "::", but not "::ffff:0.0.0.0." "addr_less_eq()" used by "ioa_addr_in_range()" for "denied-peer-ip" matching: when the range is AF_INET and the peer is AF_INET6, the comparison returns 0 without extracting the embedded IPv4. Version 4.9.0 contains an updated fix to address the bypass of the fix for CVE-2020-26262.

Title
Coturn has unsafe nonce and relay port randomization due to weak random number generation.
Summary
coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Versions 4.6.2r5 through 4.7.0-r4 have a bad random number generator for nonces and port randomization after refactoring. Additionally, random numbers aren't generated with openssl's RAND_bytes but libc's random() (if it's not running on Windows). When fetching about 50 sequential nonces (i.e., through sending 50 unauthenticated allocations requests) it is possible to completely reconstruct the current state of the random number generator, thereby predicting the next nonce. This allows authentication while spoofing IPs. An attacker can send authenticated messages without ever receiving the responses, including the nonce (requires knowledge of the credentials, which is e.g., often the case in IoT settings). Since the port randomization is deterministic given the pseudorandom seed, an attacker can exactly reconstruct the ports and, hence predict the randomization of the ports. If an attacker allocates a relay port, they know the current port, and they are able to predict the next relay port (at least if it is not used before). Commit 11fc465f4bba70bb0ad8aae17d6c4a63a29917d9 contains a fix.

Prior to 4.17.0, shutdown_client_connection() in src/server/ns_turn_server.c prematurely calls dec_quota() and releases bandwidth accounting during the first-stage close of a mobility-enabled allocation while preserving the allocation, relay socket, session, and mobility ticket, allowing an authenticated client to bypass --user-quota and --total-quota and exhaust relay ports. The coturn server can end in a state where it does not accept more requests with "even-port" enabled.
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.17.0, turnports_allocate_even() in src/apps/relay/turn_ports.c marks the unused odd sibling port as TPS_TAKEN_ODD for an EVEN-PORT Allocate request with reservation bit R=0 even though no RTCP socket will release it, allowing an authenticated client to permanently exhaust the relay port pool and cause subsequent allocations to fail with STUN error 508. This issue is fixed in version 4.17.0.

Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.16.0, dtls_server_input_handler() and create_new_connected_udp_socket() in src/apps/relay/dtls_listener.c retain OpenSSL dtls1_reassemble_fragment() state for a 35-byte fragmented ClientHello declaring a 650,000-byte handshake before cookie validation, allowing an unauthenticated remote sender using fresh UDP tuples to exhaust memory without TURN credentials, a completed handshake, a valid cookie, or source spoofing. This issue is fixed in version 4.16.0.

Coturn: `addr_less_eq()` does a component-wise IPv6 comparison instead of a lexicographic one, letting an authenticated TURN client bypass `denied-peer-ip`/`allowed-peer-ip` IPv6 ranges (TURN-specific SSRF)
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.16.0, addr_less_eq() in src/client/ns_turn_ioaddr.c uses a component-wise comparison for native IPv6 min-max intervals in ioa_addr_in_range(), allowing an authenticated TURN client to relay to an IPv6 peer that is numerically within a configured non-prefix-aligned denied-peer-ip range but is classified as outside it. This issue is fixed in version 4.16.0.

Coturn: MOBILITY-TICKET session-resume authorization bypass allows cross-user TURN allocation takeover
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.15.0, a server using --mobility authenticates a resumed REFRESH request with the resuming user's credentials but does not verify that identity against the original allocation owner, allowing an authenticated attacker who obtains a victim MOBILITY-TICKET to receive and inject relayed traffic and consume the victim's quota. In the handle_turn_refresh resume branch, the victim allocation (orig_ss) is located solely by the attacker-controlled mobile id, and credentials are only adopted (via copy_auth_parameters) when the resuming session is unauthenticated. Because the attacker's session already has hmackey_set set to 1 from its own prior authentication (which is never reset for long-term-credential sessions), the credential copy is skipped and check_stun_auth validates the REFRESH against the attacker's own identity rather than the allocation owner's. This issue is fixed in version 4.15.0.

Coturn: Pre-authentication heap memory disclosure in ACME redirect (`try_acme_redirect`)
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. From 4.5.2 through 4.14.0, when Coturn is started with --acme-redirect <URL> and exposes a plaintext-TCP listener, an unauthenticated remote client can send a single ordinary HTTP GET request and receive a 301 response whose Location header contains up to ~870 bytes of adjacent process heap memory. The leaked region is a recycled network receive buffer that is reused without being zeroed, so on a busy server it can contain data from other clients' requests (TURN credentials, OAuth tokens, relayed payloads). Root cause is a signed→unsigned conversion. This issue is fixed in version 4.15.0.

Coturn: IPv4-mapped 127.0.0.1 bypasses default loopback peer protection
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.13.0, coturn rejects loopback peers by default unless allow-loopback-peers is enabled, but the default loopback guard can be bypassed by using the IPv4-mapped IPv6 peer address ::ffff:127.0.0.1 in a TURN XOR-PEER-ADDRESS attribute. ioa_addr_is_loopback checks for the literal IPv6 loopback shape before IPv4-mapped IPv6 handling, so good_peer_addr does not apply the default loopback rejection and an authenticated TURN client can expose services bound only to localhost on the coturn host through TURN relay traffic. This issue is fixed in version 4.13.0.

Coturn: Arbitrary File Write via CLI psd Command
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.13.0, the psd print sessions dump CLI command in coturn takes a filename argument and directly passes it to fopen with no path validation. An authenticated admin with CLI access can overwrite arbitrary files writable by the coturn process because the command string is used as-is after stripping the psd prefix and leading spaces, allowing truncation and overwrite with session dump data. This issue is fixed in version 4.13.0.

Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.12.0, the coturn HTTPS admin panel passes HTTP query parameters directly into SQL queries via snprintf string interpolation without sanitization. The is_secure_string filter that protects the STUN protocol path is not applied to the admin panel's delete-user, delete-secret, and delete-IP operations, so an authenticated admin can inject arbitrary SQL through the du, ds, and dip parameters, gaining full database control and potentially OS-level access via PostgreSQL COPY TO PROGRAM. This issue is fixed in version 4.12.0.

Coturn: Stack buffer overflow in decode_oauth_token_gcm()
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Versions prior to 4.10.0 contain a stack buffer overflow in decode_oauth_token_gcm(). A uint16_t nonce_len field read from an attacker-supplied OAuth access token (0-65535) is passed directly to memcpy() as the copy length into a 256-byte stack buffer (oauth_encrypted_block.nonce[256]) without bounds checking. The overflow occurs before AES-GCM authentication is verified, the attacker does not need to know the OAuth key or produce a valid AES-GCM token. Up to 735 bytes of attacker-controlled data are written past the buffer, may corrupt adjacent stack data, including control-flow data depending on compiler, ABI, and mitigations. Requires --oauth mode (non-default). This may provide a plausible RCE primitive depending on exploit mitigations; because coturn is widely deployed for WebRTC TURN/STUN and --oauth is commonly recommended, impact can be broad. This issue has been fixed in version 4.10.0.

Coturn: Misaligned Memory Access in coturn STUN Attribute Parser (Remote DoS on ARM64)
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.10.0, the STUN/TURN attribute parsing functions in coturn perform unsafe pointer casts from uint8_t * to uint16_t * without alignment checks. When processing a crafted STUN message with odd-aligned attribute boundaries, this results in misaligned memory reads at ns_turn_msg.c. On ARM64 architectures (AArch64) with strict alignment enforcement, this causes a SIGBUS signal that immediately kills the turnserver process. An unauthenticated remote attacker can crash any ARM64 coturn deployment by sending a single crafted UDP packet. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.10.0.

Coturn: IPv4-mapped IPv6 (::ffff:0:0/96) bypasses denied-peer-ip ACL
Summary
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Coturn is commonly configured to block loopback and internal ranges using "denied-peer-ip" and/or default loopback restrictions. CVE-2020-26262 addressed bypasses involving "0.0.0.0", "[::1]" and "[::]", but IPv4-mapped IPv6 is not covered. When sending a "CreatePermission" or "ChannelBind" request with the "XOR-PEER-ADDRESS" value of "::ffff:127.0.0.1", a successful response is received, even though "127.0.0.0/8" is blocked via "denied-peer-ip". The root cause is that, prior to the updated fix implemented in version 4.9.0, three functions in "src/client/ns_turn_ioaddr.c" do not check "IN6_IS_ADDR_V4MAPPED". "ioa_addr_is_loopback()" checks "127.x.x.x" (AF_INET) and "::1" (AF_INET6), but not "::ffff:127.0.0.1." "ioa_addr_is_zero()" checks "0.0.0.0" and "::", but not "::ffff:0.0.0.0." "addr_less_eq()" used by "ioa_addr_in_range()" for "denied-peer-ip" matching: when the range is AF_INET and the peer is AF_INET6, the comparison returns 0 without extracting the embedded IPv4. Version 4.9.0 contains an updated fix to address the bypass of the fix for CVE-2020-26262.

Coturn has unsafe nonce and relay port randomization due to weak random number generation.
Summary
coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Versions 4.6.2r5 through 4.7.0-r4 have a bad random number generator for nonces and port randomization after refactoring. Additionally, random numbers aren't generated with openssl's RAND_bytes but libc's random() (if it's not running on Windows). When fetching about 50 sequential nonces (i.e., through sending 50 unauthenticated allocations requests) it is possible to completely reconstruct the current state of the random number generator, thereby predicting the next nonce. This allows authentication while spoofing IPs. An attacker can send authenticated messages without ever receiving the responses, including the nonce (requires knowledge of the credentials, which is e.g., often the case in IoT settings). Since the port randomization is deterministic given the pseudorandom seed, an attacker can exactly reconstruct the ports and, hence predict the randomization of the ports. If an attacker allocates a relay port, they know the current port, and they are able to predict the next relay port (at least if it is not used before). Commit 11fc465f4bba70bb0ad8aae17d6c4a63a29917d9 contains a fix.
