Red Hat Security Advisory: Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform 2.5 Container Release Update

Important

A flaw was found in webpack-dev-server. When a user configures a proxy with a broad context, such as '/', and enables WebSocket (ws: true) forwarding, the development server's own Hot Module Replacement (HMR) WebSocket can be intercepted. This interception leads to the leakage of the browser's cookies and Origin header to the proxy target, bypassing the server's Host/Origin validation. Additionally, it can corrupt the HMR socket, resulting in a denial of service for the HMR functionality.

CWE-346 - Origin Validation Error

A flaw was found in ansible-core. The ansible-galaxy role install command processes dependency specifications from a role's meta/requirements.yml file. Due to improper neutralization of argument delimiters, a malicious role author can inject arbitrary git configuration flags through the src field. This allows arbitrary code execution on the machine of a user who installs the role via ansible-galaxy role install.

CWE-88 - Improper Neutralization of Argument Delimiters in a Command ('Argument Injection')

A flaw was found in brace-expansion. An attacker can exploit a vulnerability in the `expand()` function by providing a specially crafted string. This string, containing consecutive non-expanding brace groups, can trigger exponential-time complexity, leading to significant CPU consumption and event-loop blocking. This can result in a Denial of Service (DoS) for the affected system.

CWE-1333 - Inefficient Regular Expression Complexity

A flaw was found in AIOHTTP, an asynchronous HTTP client/server framework for asyncio and Python. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by providing untrusted input to the `CookieJar.load()` function. This could potentially lead to arbitrary code execution, allowing the attacker to run malicious code on the affected system. This issue is most likely to occur in applications that allow attacker-controlled files to be loaded.

CWE-502 - Deserialization of Untrusted Data

A flaw was found in daphne. An unauthenticated remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending arbitrarily large WebSocket messages or frames. This oversight in payload size handling can lead to excessive memory consumption, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) for the affected system.

CWE-770 - Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling

A flaw was found in Pillow, a Python imaging library. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by providing a specially crafted BDF font file. The library's image processing function fails to properly validate dimensions from the font file, bypassing a critical security check designed to prevent excessive memory usage. This oversight can lead to the system consuming an unreasonable amount of memory, making it unavailable to legitimate users.

CWE-770 - Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling

A flaw was found in js-yaml, a JavaScript YAML parser and dumper. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by providing a specially crafted YAML document containing a chain of mappings with merge keys. This could cause the parser to consume excessive CPU resources, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS) for the affected system.

CWE-606 - Unchecked Input for Loop Condition

A flaw was found in httplib2, a Python HTTP client library. This vulnerability allows a malicious or compromised HTTP server to send a small compressed data payload that, when decompressed by httplib2, expands to an extremely large size in memory. This unbounded decompression can lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) by causing the client application to run out of memory and crash.
