    CVE-2026-88975 (GCVE-0-2026-88975)

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2026-09-15 19:31 – Updated: 2026-09-16 14:43

    Title
    Http4s: Ember HTTP/2 buffers a frame's declared payload before checking SETTINGS_MAX_FRAME_SIZE
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.37 and 1.0.0-M48, Ember’s HTTP/2 read loop parses a frame’s 24-bit declared length but waits to buffer the entire payload before comparing it with SETTINGS_MAX_FRAME_SIZE. An unauthenticated peer can declare a payload near 16 MiB on a connection where Ember advertised 16 KiB and either complete or slowly stream it, causing up to 1024-fold memory amplification per connection before processFrame can reject the frame. The shared H2Connection.readLoop affects withHttp2 servers and clients, while HTTP/2-disabled configurations are unaffected, and the patch rejects oversized frames before buffering their payloads. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.37 and 1.0.0-M48.

    Title
Http4s Ember HTTP/2: unbounded continuation frame accumulation
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, When Ember receives an HTTP/2 HEADERS or PUSH_PROMISE frame without END_HEADERS, H2Connection buffers the header block and subsequent CONTINUATION fragments without a size bound. A remote peer can keep an incomplete block open and exhaust heap memory before request decoding, affecting an ember-server or ember-client configured with withHttp2. The remediation tracks accumulated size against SETTINGS_MAX_HEADER_LIST_SIZE derived from EmberServerBuilder.maxHeaderSize or EmberClientBuilder.maxResponseHeaderSize, sends GOAWAY when the limit is exceeded, and applies receiveHeadersTimeout to incomplete blocks. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2026-09-15 19:20 – Updated: 2026-09-16 13:52

    Title
Http4s: Ember Server accepts duplicate Content-Length headers
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, Ember’s HTTP/1.1 parser accepts differing duplicate Content-Length headers and uses the last value instead of rejecting the message. When an Ember server is behind a keep-alive intermediary that selects a different occurrence, an unauthenticated attacker can create CL.CL request smuggling that bypasses front-end controls, captures a later user’s headers, or poisons a cache. The shared client parser can also misframe responses from a malicious or compromised upstream when the client acts as a proxy for multiple downstream consumers. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: CookieJar middleware matches by substring, leaking cookies cross-origin
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, The CookieJar client middleware uses unanchored substring checks instead of RFC 6265 domain and path matching when deciding whether to attach a stored cookie. A cookie for example.com can consequently be sent to an attacker-controlled hostname such as evilexample.com when an application using the same jar makes an attacker-influenced outbound request. This exposes session or authentication cookies and can enable hijacking of the application’s outbound sessions. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: WebSocket decoder accepts negative length, causing infinite decode loop
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, WebSocket FrameTranscoder.bodyLength rejects extended payload lengths above Integer.MAX_VALUE but permits negative 64-bit lengths. A remote client that completes a WebSocket handshake through an Ember server can send such a frame, causing the decoder to return an empty frame without advancing its input. The decode loop then runs indefinitely, pins a worker at full CPU, and grows an ArrayBuffer without bound, resulting in denial of service. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: DigestAuth allows replay of captured requests
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, DigestAuth replay protection records lastNc plus one instead of the highest nonce-count value it has accepted. When a legitimate client sends noncontiguous nc values because of parallel or retried requests, the stored counter remains below the accepted maximum, allowing a passive observer to replay a captured Authorization header multiple times. Successful replays execute authenticated requests, including state-changing operations, as the captured user. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
    Http4s: Ember Transfer-Encoding value parsing (TE.CL / TE.0 request smuggling)
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, Ember’s HeaderP.parse uses a case-sensitive substring test for the Transfer-Encoding value and decodes header bytes with the platform default charset. Values such as Chunked are not recognized, values such as notchunked are incorrectly accepted, and Unicode case folding can turn a Kelvin-sign byte sequence into a match when UTF-8 is used. Intermediaries that apply RFC-compliant token and charset rules can therefore disagree with Ember’s Content-Length or zero-length framing, enabling TE.CL or TE.0 request smuggling, access-control bypass, cross-user request hijacking, and cache poisoning on the server path. Response smuggling through an ember-client gateway requires a malicious or compromised upstream. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
    Http4s Ember HTTP/2: does not enforce SETTINGS_MAX_CONCURRENT_STREAMS
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, An Ember server with HTTP/2 enabled through withHttp2 does not enforce SETTINGS_MAX_CONCURRENT_STREAMS for peer-created streams. One unauthenticated connection can open an unbounded number of streams, each retaining per-stream state until heap exhaustion. The same unchecked allocation is reachable in an ember-client through server-initiated PUSH_PROMISE frames because enablePush is not enforced. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Vulnerability from nvd – Published: 2026-09-15 19:25 – Updated: 2026-09-15 19:39

    Title
Http4s Ember HTTP/2: unbounded inbound body buffering
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, Ember’s HTTP/2 flow-control window is replenished according to bytes received from the network rather than bytes consumed by the application, while each stream stores DATA in an unbounded channel. A hostile peer can therefore send a body faster than a slow or non-draining application consumes it, retaining payloads in heap on an ember-server or ember-client configured with withHttp2. The patch bounds the per-stream H2Connection body channel so application consumption applies backpressure. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: Ember chunk parser lenience (TE.TE request smuggling)
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, Ember’s chunk decoder trims the chunk-size token and accepts leading plus or minus signs instead of requiring one or more hexadecimal digits followed by the required CRLF. When an intermediary forwards chunked data without re-encoding and interprets malformed chunk boundaries differently, an unauthenticated attacker can create TE.TE request smuggling that bypasses intermediary controls, poisons caches, or hijacks the request queue. The same response-path leniency can enable response smuggling against an ember-client used as a gateway when the upstream is malicious or compromised. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: CookieJar middleware accepts arbitrary Set-Cookie domain
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, The CookieJar client middleware stores a response cookie’s Domain attribute without checking that it domain-matches the host that supplied the cookie or rejecting public suffixes. A malicious or compromised server contacted through the same CookieJar can plant a cookie for another domain, and the jar later sends that cookie to the victim domain, enabling session fixation or overwriting security-sensitive cookies. The patch validates the Set-Cookie domain against the response origin, although public-suffix rejection remains unimplemented. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s Ember HTTP/2: unbounded outbound frame queue
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, Ember HTTP/2 serializes outbound frames through one unbounded queue consumed by writeLoop. When the peer stops reading, an unauthenticated HTTP/2 client can continue sending PING, SETTINGS, or DATA frames that cause Ember to enqueue acknowledgments or WINDOW_UPDATE frames faster than the writer drains them, exhausting heap memory on a server built with withHttp2. The shared behavior also affects an ember-client connected to a hostile HTTP/2 server, and the patch replaces the unbounded path with bounded, backpressured outbound queues. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: FollowRedirect middleware leaks credentials over https->http same-authority redirect
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, The FollowRedirect client middleware strips Authorization and Cookie headers only when a redirect changes authority, but authority comparison excludes the URI scheme. A same-authority redirect from HTTPS to HTTP therefore preserves credentials and transmits them over a plaintext connection. An attacker who can induce the downgrade and observe the network can capture those sensitive headers from applications using FollowRedirect. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: Set-Cookie rendering does not escape attribute delimiters
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, ResponseCookie.render writes attacker-influenced name, content, domain, path, and extension values without neutralizing semicolons or control characters. An application that constructs a ResponseCookie from unvalidated input can therefore emit injected cookie attributes such as Domain, Path, or SameSite, widening cookie scope or weakening protections, and control characters may enable header splitting on permissive backends. The patch strips control characters from all five fields and strips semicolons from name, content, domain, and path while retaining the extension delimiter behavior. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: WebSocket decoder accepts unbounded message sizes
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, The shared WebSocket decoder permits unbounded message buffering because defragmentation accumulates fragments without a limit and FrameTranscoder accepts declared lengths up to Int.MaxValue. A remote client that completes a WebSocket handshake against an http4s-blaze-server or http4s-ember-server endpoint can exhaust server memory with oversized frames or fragmented messages. The patched decoder applies a configurable 64 MiB default limit to individual frames and defragmented messages through EmberServerBuilder.withMaxWebSocketMessageSize. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: DigestAuth nonce map grows unbounded
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, the DigestAuth server middleware removes fresh nonces and stops eviction at the first stale nonce because its stale-nonce comparison is inverted. On an application that protects at least one route with DigestAuth, an unauthenticated attacker can repeatedly trigger authentication challenges, causing the persistent nonce map to grow until the JVM exhausts heap memory. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: Ember accepts Transfer-Encoding combined with Content-Length (CL.TE request smuggling)
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, Ember HTTP/1.1 does not reject messages containing both Transfer-Encoding and Content-Length, so an intermediary and Ember can select different body framing rules. When ember-server is behind a keep-alive intermediary that forwards both headers and frames by Content-Length, an unauthenticated attacker can smuggle a second request, bypass intermediary access controls, poison caches, or cause a victim request to be joined to an attacker-controlled prefix. The shared response parser can also desynchronize an ember-client connection when a malicious or compromised upstream sends both headers. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    Title
Http4s: ResourceService and Webjar Service path escape via percent-encoded separators
    Summary
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, ResourceService and WebjarService decode each URL path segment but reject only segments exactly equal to an empty string, a dot, or two dots. A request containing percent-encoded slash or backslash separators can turn an accepted segment into a parent-directory traversal after decoding, allowing access to classpath or WebJar resources outside the configured base when a directory-backed classpath is served and the backend preserves the encoded separator. The patch rejects decoded segments containing slash or backslash in ResourceService and WebjarService, and applies the same guard to the non-exploitable FileService for consistency. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.

    CVE-2026-88975 (GCVE-0-2026-88975)

    Vulnerability from cvelistv5 – Published: 2026-09-15 19:31 – Updated: 2026-09-16 14:43

Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, Ember\u2019s HTTP/1.1 parser accepts differing duplicate Content-Length headers and uses the last value instead of rejecting the message. When an Ember server is behind a keep-alive intermediary that selects a different occurrence, an unauthenticated attacker can create CL.CL request smuggling that bypasses front-end controls, captures a later user\u2019s headers, or poisons a cache. The shared client parser can also misframe responses from a malicious or compromised upstream when the client acts as a proxy for multiple downstream consumers. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47."

"value": "Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, The CookieJar client middleware stores a response cookie\u2019s Domain attribute without checking that it domain-matches the host that supplied the cookie or rejecting public suffixes. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47."
